On paper Compper was a no brainer, it’s a bit like playing the balance sheet as a striker or a CB, it works on paper, tis a pity that we play the real thing on the park sometimes :-)

and, of course, the EO in my earlier post is, of course, OE. I seem to have a brain cramp about that. But, I swear, I will eventually get it right… probably in 2 or 3 seasons, just as he is transferred.

    :)

  3. Anyways, need to love yous and leave yous, up early doors, cave is getting a complete paint job, first since we came here, dugs are mega confused as I am, also picking up my new to me Jeep the morra, been a while since I had a 4 x 4, the last one was a Jeep also, this one has a Merc engine and every toy imaginable, so am hoping it’s the bogs dollix.

Rosenborg, if we can’t get past them we have a problem, if the truth be told if we don’t make the groups again we have a problem, as a glass half empty kinda bloke, I think we will make them, after that I honestly don’t give a flying duck :-)

Take care and God bless Timland

  4. just home the game , thoughts, we need a left sided/footed defender to play in a back 3, simo all right sided and wants to play on his right ,not comfortable playing on the left, led to his dismissal .

i see we are no better with our corner or free kicks ,no imagination just try and get by the first defender , you would think with the quality we have on the park we would be capable of looking able to score from a dead ball situation , other than that a good victory.

?️ BR on injury to @MDembele_10: “He was tight in the back of his leg & we just need to assess it tomorrow & over the next couple of days. He’s as fit as he’s been since I’ve been here, at this stage of the season, so we’re hoping it’s just tightness and he’ll be ok.” #CELALA

  6. Jozo just seems so far away from it these days and its all to common mistakes over and over again. Would prefer to give M. Comparr a run out on the left of a back three than go with jozo these days. Would prefer at least 1 good quality centre back, 2 if we cant get boyato to extend stay. But dont think board can be blamed they signed up 2 centrebacks in january.

Also griff back training so we should have at least 2 strikers available next week and 3 if mouss recovers (hopefully minor injury)

And finally if we cannot be they we dont deserve to be there. i hopefully than is not the case.

Like you, I think we look the best in midfield and attack than I can remember. Defensively we looked clumsy and nervous tonight. I was seriously under impressed with the performances of Craig, Jozo while he lasted, Jack and Kris. Don’t rate the latter 3 at all.

    Cannae defend, defenders CSC

We signed a left sided centre half in January, the manager chooses not to play him. KT is the best left sided defender at the club, full back or centre back.

Play KT there next week, McGregor wide left and Rogic back as attacking midfielder behind the strikers.

Our set pieces are dire. They were all last season and we obviously don’t work on them. Watching the importance of set pieces in the WC, something like 40+% of goals scored from them, you’d think someone on the coaching staff would be working on them.

  9. Last week, several posters including Hunderbirds, Fan-a-tic, TurkeyBhoy and others commented on the poor quality of our corners and free kicks. I have to agree. Despite an excellent performance from our ten men, our set pieces were sadly lacking.

With three corners in a row, McGregor demonstrated our usual repertoire – trundle to the first defender, blooter it far beyond the far post (with nobody there), and lob it straight to the goalkeeper.

Ntcham’s free kicks are amazingly poor. With one, he belted it far beyond the box and straight out of play. He then followed up with a pass to the first defender. We had two lighthouses in Ajer and Hendry in the box for all of them, having tracked 60-70 yards to get there, yet we can’t get a crossed ball remotely near them. Tonight, it didn’t matter. Next week, it may.

The center of our defense is our weak point – Jozo showed the same lack of judgment he displayed against Sevco and PSG last season, either getting needlessly sent off or inexplicably handling in the box. We have exactly the same problems here as we did last season. The abortive signing of Coetzee, and later signing of Compper indicate that BR is aware of the issue, yet we are no further forward.

I would take John Terry in a heartbeat. We need a defender next to Dedryck and in front of Craig who can effectively defend our goal. Sorry, but Jozo, Jack and Kris cannae defend our goal effectively.

If you are referring to Jozo?

He sorted it for himself tonight.

I think he is uninterested in playing effectively for Celtic and think he is a dud centre half. I would chase him. Would never trust or rely on him type of player, I think.

  12. 50 shades of green on

O and I thought the new lights looked good although I’m in the Upper North Stand.

A bit iffy at the back tonight at times, middle to front starting to look the part..

I thought tonight it looked like a typical SPL game for Celtic, our players chopped down, and their players diving all over the place , and a bloody idiot for a ref….

Still it was good to be back in paradise again..

  13. !!Bada Bing!! on

Rumour PL was talking to a potential signing before the game. I noticed he didnt take his seat till about 25 mins played…

  14. Overall tonight was a poor night for us.

    CH sent off and suspended.

    Moussa limps off.

    Poor.

  15. weebobbycollins on

Criticism of Hendry is a wee bit premature methinks…Give the boy a chance before you get on his back. Jozo, I agree, should know better but Jack H has to be given some slack…

I think Jack Hendry is a poor decision making defender. He really cannae defend effectively. He will cost us loads of goals against good teams. Sorry, I hate criticising Celtic players and offer my support in voice and applause to Jack in every game. Like that McKenna at Dons who folk seem to rate, I think they are both rotten defenders.

Thought we did ok at the back with 10, big Kris is quality and still learning the position. Jury still very much out on Jack H.

I thought he was in his seat from the start, does he no get shunted in one when Bankier is there? Normally if Bankier is there he sits with Jim Craig.

I accept your chastisement. I support Jack Hendry inside Paradise, and away matches I attend, fully, like I do every Celtic player. I am just posting my concerns on a blog that I pray Jack never reads. He is a huge strong unit who would kick ma heid in, nae probs. ??

  20. What are our comparisons in condemning our corner kicks as inferior? What should we expect?

In a study of 12,000 EPL corners taken in 2011-13, the results were :-

“Out of 10,969 crosses from the corner, the vast majority did not even produce a shot. They went long, got cleared, or caromed around the penalty area before going out of play harmlessly. Only 12 percent of these corners produced a legitimate shot attempt. Simply getting a shot away from a corner kick is an accomplishment. Of the 1,362 shots directly assisted by corners, 182 were knocked home for goals. So that’s a scoring rate of about 13 percent for shots assisted by corner kicks. And an overall rate of goals scored from corner kicks of a little less than 2 percent.”

So- are we poore than average or just poorer than our expectations?

  21. Two big recognised problems Celtic have. Defence and set pieces. Do you know who the coach is for these areas?

I was referring to Jack Hendry.

I might have been first to mention Jack, no whipping Bhoy for me, read back to what i posted

  23. DELANEYS DUNKY on 18TH JULY 2018 11:45 PM

How many has he cost us to date?

Or more pertinently how many has he cost us to date whilst playing centre half.

He’s not a right back, and that’s where he’s been asked to play more often than not since signing for us. He’s being asked to cover for our inability to sign a good right back.

  24. !!BADA BING!! on 18TH JULY 2018 11:56 PM

Wasn’t referring to you, was agreeing with you.Just reading here and a few other sites and it seems he’s taking on the Efe/Dedryck mantle as whipping bhoy.

  26. Good game — great entertainment for 60 minutes.

However it was two poor teams still not up to full speed.

BR3.0 = Overtrained, over coached, overawed.

Early doors I know but we look very disjointed and very wasteful.

Total lack of focus and urgency playing playground level tiki taki nonsense.

At the moment if SB has not touched the ball we cannot pass it forward.

ON was probably the worst — half the game was played in a sulk with the odd couldn’t be erse day corner thrown in for good measur.

JH showed a bit of class and promise at times but he needs to be reminded that he is not playing netball — once you get the ball you can move.

In his defence after 80 minutes of statuesque stillness he suddenly remembered how easy it can be to take and make space and run it out from the back.

Very annoyed at the last 20 minutes.

The 70 minute rush for the exit was very pronounced tonight.

Plus we had three subs on the park and the team didn’t make th3 effort to get them involved.

For the record MJ has a bit of growing up to do — good skill but very peripheral.

And to think there are those out there who think that JMcG would not make a difference to the team.

    The MF was poor tonight.

We need to remember that we are CFC not SBFC.

ON was in a part time sulk and CMcG seems to have regressed two years at least.

Boot up the erse required for quite a few.

A good team — not even EuL standard — would have caused us a lot of problems.

    JS — a bit unlucky.

Looked like a poorly timed high tackle.

The highlights suggest a lazy boot in the rib cage.

The purpose of the blog is for us as Celtic fans to be able to discuss the pros and cons of Celtic ,the club and the team.

I ,like you ,will not loudly berate a player during a match.

Although I must admit I did cuss very loudly at Gary Mackay Stevens when he was walking of the pitch at Hampden during our loss on pens to Sevco 2 years ago.

It was the most spineless performance I have ever seen from a Celtic player in a match against them.

When we play them we need warriors not weans.
