  1. Deserved more.

Plus points were Sammy (outstanding) and the way we created chances and didn’t give up.

For me, anything we get in Europa is a bonus- SPL is the priority this year.

    Hail Hail

    Completely disagree.

The Spanish league is light years ahead in quality my friend.

I think credit where credit is due. We tried hard against superior opposition and just came up short.

Well done the hoops. Now for Utd.

  3. Snake, ah would agree wae that, who would have thought it? 11 actors masquerading as football players!

First half was good but Athletico could have had four in second half while their keeper didn’t make a save.

  5. One stupid mistake costs us again!

All is not lost…….3 points against that shower of Italian upstarts on December 15th and we are through!

    Hail Hail!

We are a young side and we will get better our main focus this season is the SPL im sure the players will have learned from our European games. One thing that does bother me is Ki is a luxury I dont feel we can afford at the moment we need eleven grafters and Ki does not fit into that category. Those so called Celtic fans who are running Lennie and the team tonight havnt got a clue we are heading in the right direction.H.H.

  7. Get off Sammys back, even when he’s our best player you have a go at him!

Thought dan actually did alright tonight, though glenda looked skaky.

Kayal was fully at fault for the goal but played pretty well.

    Ki was quite simply shocking

    Forrest was quiet

Matthews, Ledley and Mulgrew gave decent shifts

Stokes played well, especially in the first half

Hooper I though scored a perfectly good goal

A draw would have been fair enough, though it still meant we’d have to win in Udinese so it didn’t really matter if we got the point and the end or not. Didn’t do enough for a win though

    HH

Keep the good form going, a win is a must at Tannadice

  8. No doom and gloom please! We played good but for a goal we could’ve defended but tell me one game you’ve seen with 2 teams better than us that has no done the same thing.

The Bhoys played well against a better opposition and walk away feeling they should at least have got a draw.

Roll on the Udinese, its still in our hands tae get out of a Europa league that is the toughest we could’ve been drawn!!!

I was brought up on guys who would have put their life on the line for a Hoops goal so I cannot stand prima donnas like Sammi. He’s a chancer. He has ability but no brain, no bottle. Get rid. He is all front and limited content.

That is 5 Posts From You tonight..Everyone Slagging Sammi (A Celtic Player)..Look Up “Support” in the Dictionary..

  11. Another rant as we watch more 90 minutes where we are totally unable to control a game from the defence due to having two bomb scares in the centre of it –

On August 31st we knew we had K Wilson as a centre half. Everyone knew any of the rest werent good enough.

Yet, on August 31st we ran around like headless chickens trying to find additional left back cover.

We had Mulgrew and as has since transpired, we all knew Matthews, M Wilson and Ledley could do a turn for us if needed.

Since August 31st we have signed a 4th right back on a free and have a 5th joining in January on a Bosman.

Yet here we are – another European dream nearly over because in each and every big game we have played the centre halves have caused panic and pandamonium in defence.

We also give goals away that no other club I have seen in Europe does.

Those goals precede the last 3 managers and dozens of players yet still remain.

Tonight was flat – very flat.

Tactics just arent there – the necessary knowhow, nouse and expertise just isnt there to coach the current players to play within a required system

  12. glendalystonsils on

Ki’s free kick at the end there just summed up his night for me. Big 6` 6″ Foster comes up for it and Ki puts the ball in at chest height.

His worst display in a celtic shirt and that’s saying something.

Sammi was brilliant tonight. He put himself everywhere. Currant Bun?

    ****

Aye, fair enough son, take the easy route. Saves having to face up to the reality. With many of our support just has to do anything positive now and then to get the hero worship. I do not get it. Tonight, when he did, occasionally, get through to a cross he didn’t look up and see the pass.

I’ll say no more. I know when I am in the minority. Just cannot see why so many put up with him. He is a chancer aqnd should be sold or moved at any price.

  14. Big Packie's Accent on

An otherwise very good European campaign,

ruined by 3 individual moments of stupidity.

    5 points astray.

    Udinese – Hooper

    Rennes – Cha

    Atletico – Kayal

  15. The Honest Mistake on

Well played Celtic. We played just as well as atletico tonight. A draw would have been a fair result. The Huns will be cacking themselves. Keep the performances up Celtic. Hail hail

  16. Our bhoys wetre not too bad. Very impressed with the way AM defence closed us down, against the SPL heefers we would have got away a lot of shots on goal.

Our coaching staff must surely be learning a thing or two watching these teams passing, moving and closing down-

We still have a chance but with our centrebacks not much i’m afraid to say.

Looking forward to Broonie,Commons and Izzy back in the team.

  17. We didn’t play great nor did we play badly.

We had chances in the second half but unfortunately Ki did not have one of his best nights and the opportunities were spurned.

It was only a few years ago we were beating the very best in the world on a regular basis at Celtic Park.

How have you managed to let your standards slip so much – are you even aware that you have?

    Because you have – 100%.

  19. All in all, about what was expected. A 1-1 draw would have been fairer.

Until the Bermuda Triangle of Dan , loovens and FF is sorted we will never have the foundation to build a great side.

  20. Well i was wrong with my predictions, I don’t think there was that much difference between the teams, some of their play was pretty dirty I thought (watching on TV), someone should have walked from their defense. I wasn’t sure about the Wanyama substitution – but hey, what do I know. The other game ended up at 0-0 so there is always hope. Ki had a poor game, Sammi showed his fight again, Forrest seemed to fade out and his head went down a bit. Gutted but it was an exciting game and more experience for our team.

  21. Not too unhappy.

We are still 4 points behind Rangers.

Scott Brown got a run out.

Sammi had a good confidence building game.

There’s no chance we will come up against anyone in Scotland with as much composure as Atletico.

I confidently predict we will be top of the SPL before the bells. (Or the Glenfiddich or Glenmorangie.)

Well you’re right about one thing.

    That was another rant.

  23. Until they scored Celtic were playing very well and then they went to bits for a while.

Unfortunate with the disallowed goal but I think Neil should have had Hooper on from the start and Ki not in the squad. He was very poor minus that free kick he hit.

Wanyama may have had a knock and is required for Sunday.

For me the biggest downside is Joe Ledley’s injury.

Athletico have some top class players but I felt as usual the ref reacted to theatrical falls.

The goal appears to have been some kind of misjudgement by Kayal and Forster was poor at that point but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as it was slippery.

Loovens was appalling at times with his passing and quite honestly I really do hope he is shown the door come January if there is any idiotic club who would give us 50p for him. He has been responsible for too many stupid goals and inspires zero confidence. Punt him please.

At the start of the group if you’d told me we had a chance to go through with the last game, I’d have been shocked and would have bitten off your hand. Hopefully we get a break but think we’ll be home for the new year.

  24. No doom and gloom and indeed.

Classis Celtic, we deserved to win, and they played cynically to try and kill our football, while we frustrated them.

That’s a good sign that we’re headed in the right direction.

Well done Lenny and the Lhads. We’re getting there.

    Number 9, number 9, number 9 :))

And Broonie made a big contribution when he came on, for all you muppets digging him up because the meeja have kept you up to date on his contract negotiations. FFS.

Keep up the good work Oor Lennie.

  25. Beamishismypint on

In fairness the Spanish commentators had no axe to grind and when the game was over they commented on the lack of composure in the Celtic defence. We are not getting enough bang for our buck in that sector. Loovens must think he has won the lottery getting paid £10,000+ a week.

  26. I hope Lennon hasnt seen the goal on a TV replay, I really do following those comments.

It was anything but a good goal.

Incomprensable defending and poor goalkeeping caused it

  27. Just logged-on, and read a few comments, while scrolling to the last page. Can’t believe some of the negativity that I’ve read! That was a great performance from the team and the fans tonight! Sure, there were a few costly errors, but I’m well-pleased with our performance, and our contribution to a fast-flowing and entertaining game of football.

Maybe my expectation levels have dropped over the last few seasons, but, if we play that way for the rest of the SPL season, we’ll win the title by a very healthy margin! It’s all about perspective, Bhoys! That was a great show tonight! Best wishes to Joe Ledley!

  28. Beamishismypint on

Where is all the we deserved to win stuff coming from. We created nothing in the second half?

  29. And another thing, these young guys will learn from their first Euro campaign together and be better for it next season.

Not a worthless experience in my view.

    Thanks for concurring.

You clearly believe the central defence did well tonight..

I also think you’l be in the minority there.

No doubt if you watch the game again you’l concur with me again.

  31. We looked decent against a good side. Didn’t agree with the change in shape, perhaps wanyama was injured, perhaps Neil was emboldened by the chances we had made and thought we could get at them, but even so we were never outclassed or over ran. We lloked like a team, never went to pieces and over all we should be pleased enough. Europe is a bonus. Tannadice beckons. It’s all that counts.
