  1. My Man-of-the-Match Award goes to the Green Brigade! They were being praised throughout the game on the channel I was watching. Well done, you Bhoys in Green!

  2. Snake,

Agreed. A learning experience in genereal. From an improving team. We are far from the finished article but returning reinforcements are helping our form-recovery.

On another point I was surprised at AM doing there am-dram routines near the end. Part of me thinks that is a compliment to Celtic – they knew we still held a threat to the end.

    Id agree with that.

A moment of lunacy is what has let him and us down.

Thats what it was – because our bravest player, after coming off the post (so had his bearings) decided to duck when he usually goes through a lot worse to win the ball back.

    Moment of total lunacy.

The other 93.5 minutes including injury time – no problems

…..except the world class save from ki’s free kick and the chalked off goal.

  5. Can’t understand where some posters are coming from, particularly Rashers. I know Sammi has driven us to distraction in the past but he was our best player tonight and tried his guts out. Forster made some great stops in 2nd half and can’t be blamed for goal. Kayal is not a chicken either, I don’t know what he was trying to do and he did look stupid, but no way was it cowardice. We have come a long way since that goaless draw against Hibs any supporter slagging the team after the past 3 weeks and tonights performance need to take a good look at themselves. Hail Hail the real important one is next weekend.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? IS FREE SPEECH NOT ALLOWED ON HERE? WHAT IS A “SLOTH”? CELTIC LOSE AND WE ALL FALL OUT. CLASSIC “DIVIDE AND RULE TACTICS” FROM THE DARK SIDE. WHAT A PITY.

  7. Eyes Wide Open @ 20:02

    ??

We always came close to competing at the top level since Wim then MON. But none of those teams were perfect.

If your eyes were indeed wide open you’d see we are on our way back to a similar standard.

A true Tim would be talking this young team up, especially after the potential they’ve shown in recent European games against good opposition.

Who were the winners of last season’s Europe Cup?

Standards? If that concerns you, address the issues in the SP Hell – you could have 11 Messi’s playing for you there, but when being denied the opportunity to play a decent game of football all season, it’s very difficult to play with the quality we showed tonight, from a young team, who again, got booted off the pitch, and are still being injured in every match we play – or do you blame Lennoxtown and Celtic for that as well?

  8. Beamishmypint

    Probably my dodgy stream

    Big Packies Accent

    Can’t fully agree –

    Udinese – wasnt a penalty!

Rennes – if that hadn’t had been an OG Rennes could have picked up the tempo IMO. Draw fair result

Atletico – Aye I’ll give you that one ;)

That means we should be 3 points better off, and Udinese would be one down, meaning we’d still need a draw in Italy

    HH

  9. Ledley’s injury may hurt us. Just hope its not too serious but the signs are ominous.

On the plus side young Matthews is playing very well and Neil also seems to be getting a good game out of Sammi. Still frustrating at times choosing to run into groups of defenders but in the SPL anyway I think he’ll be a good player for us. Forrest too continues to make an impact.

As well I ‘d like to see our forwards take more of a gamble or try to anticipate crosses. Anthony Stokes but more particularly Gary Hooper seem to want to wait on a cross beating entire defences before attacking the cross.

Lastly – Ki. Posted about him last week. Plays well enough as a substitute to get a first choice pick and then shows why he wasn’t a first pick to begin with. No cocsistency. Must be wild frustrating for Neil.

Finally. Welcome back Skoosh. Good twenty minutes. Now. Get that contract signed.

  10. i dont get Ki at all

brilliant skill, brilliant passer of the ball, superb shot – probably after Paddy the most gifted footballer around Celtic – but he dosent fit into this team at all

check last year – when we went on the run from New year the midfield was brown ledley kayal and commons – we have tried to fitt him in this year and have struggled – when he has been out we have put a wee run together again

he will be a cracking player in the prem or spanish league just dosent fit in at Celtic

    i would sell come january

  11. No major complaints, I thought they were better than us though we could have scored. A couple of queries, kayal at the goal – will lave to look at that a couple of times, Ki is a good player but isn’t ready for big games. Onwards and uwards bhoys .

Is that fear that we can smell?

We’re coming for you and you know it.

  13. Damn right CorkCelt! Think that most of the critics on here must have listened to the game on Shortbread! They certainly were not watching the game that I watched!

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

We must understand we are not yet the finished article but we are making progress unfortunately Ledley appears to have taken a bad one I hope it isnt as bad as it looked. We have a big squad of players and we will continue to try and off load a few in order to bring in others who will be first team regulars. The Europa league this season has been a Bonus for us we got lucky with Sions stupidity however,we are probably in the hardest group and we have done ok.Lets move on now to Tannadice on Sunday imo that is more important than tonights game and we have to win it.H.H.

  15. Just woke up – still jet lagged so not sleeping great- disappointed we didnt get something from the game and disappointed at the reaction, over-reaction on here.

    Neither was a surprise.

  16. BakuBhoy @ 20:05

Don’t doubt yourself amigo. Was an excellent game which we deserved to win – depsite a couple of player errors (not uncommon in most games of football! ).

There’s a good chance there’ll be many huns on tonight to talk it down.

  17. That was a decent performance. First half better than the second, but they are like all Spanish sides, and I include Real Madrid and Barca in this, they’ll kick you if they think you are a danger. It was good for Forrest to come up against a defence like that, along with Stokes and Hooper. Kayal played well apart from the howler. Sammi was excellent–a real handful for them. Wanyama is special, a cracking player at age 19. Ledley covered very well. Dan was shaky, Loovens even more so. Young Matthews is another find. What age 19/20? He’ll do. Big Fraser will never, I think, be a commanding goalkeeper. The AM keeper is 19 years old and about the same height. Who would you take? Athletico would do most EPL clubs, make no mistake about it. Clever, cynical, and deadly if they are given a chance. Ki–well I’m afraid I agree with the majority on here. He was very poor tonight. Brownie needs to be fit. The few minutes he got were more for his fitness levels than his contribution.

  18. Another great shift from Samaras.

We deserved a goal – Hooper was onside – and well worth a draw.

This group is arguably tougher than some of Celtic’s CL groups, or at least their equal.

Went to the corresponding fixrure earlier this season, we looked miles off Atleti’s pace.

    Tonight we were their equal.

Great progress by a young team, still learning lessons.

Hail, hail to all especially Lhondondave, pleasure to meet you:)

  19. Lurgan53 20:14

Agree with your post, apart from one thing. Tonight, Sammi was running THROUGH, not into, groups of defenders! HH

  20. And well done to those who turned out in massive numbers in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Belfast Derry and wherever else you were at the start of what is going to be a protracted campaign to bring some sanity back in to our society. Was told the Glasgow turn out was particularly impressive.

Read a wee bit of the usual suspects criticisms. Couldn’t be bothered weighing in. They are in the minority, they make ever more desperate and pointless arguments. We are right, I think they know it. No point reasoning with them as they think only in terms of their own bank balance when it comes down to it.

Very frustrating that the BBC and others cannot report on the strikes without mentioning private sector pensions. What the hell has that got to do with anything? Other than it being about the only argument they have it is childish. See, I know a private sector guy with a better car and bigger house than mine. He has a bigger salary too. Should we all argue for him to get a worse car and a smaller house? His gold plated life style seems unfair to me!!

That is the level of their argument – playground stuff.

Click on my user name and read the article about Single Farm Payments. 43%v of Europe’s budget goes on subsidies to landowners. The more land you have the bigger the payment. Millions are going in to the pockets of wealthy landowners for doing, well, zip. these same guys rent the land or pay people to manage it. the biggest beneficiary never worked a day in his life and inherited the land and other assets from his father – welfare for the rich.

Oh, and the genius who ran Northern Rock in to the ground and heralded the Bail Out of the Banks (even more Welfare Handouts for the wealthy) got over £200,000 because he owns a farm of land. No means test! Wonder if all the tory euro sceptics in the country side alliance will be clamouring for this European madness to end. Aye right………..

Not a bad day all round!

  22. Well played Celtic ……..watched game in Geneva……..lot of local support…..team progressing well.

  23. glendalystonsils on

Not sure I agree with posters who reckon Ki would be a hit in the Spanish or other European league. He was playing against a Spanish team tonight and apart from the free kick, was absolutely gash.

  24. Ah well disappointed as we had a bit of momentum after the weekend but the sp hell is the important prize for me.

Think a draw would not have been an unfair result to be honest, but seriously, we have to sort the defence or it will be the undoing of us.

The substitutions in the second half did leave me somewhat bemused i have to say and sorry any Ki admirers but our midfield are a much poorer unit with him playing. Disappears too often in games and is very inconsistent. Tonight is a game he should have shone.

Lenny you’re doing great but stick to what works and forget the favourites. We will beat united on sunday i’ve no doubts.

    hh lbb

  25. It looked to me as if Kayal was bending down to head the ball at the goal. I’m sure he feels worse than any of us.

    Lubo.

  26. RobertTressell @ 20:19

HH. The usual suspects, and in general politics, of that attidute which has always been the minority, but shouts the loudest. The only reason right-wingers are in politics is because the rest of us are divided in vote about things that actually matter as opposed to protecting the “self”.

  27. Not too disappointed to be honest. Any result at all tonight would still have had us requiring something in Italy, so I was more concerned with the performance and to be honest, bar a couple of mistakes, we played some really good stuff again.

I still see the team as being an evolutionary step (if you pardon such a crude expression) behind where they can and hopefully will be. Certainly there is a great deal of talent there and some of the movement of the players to create space is quite astonishing.

Definitely a work in progress but I feel it is being hampered by a somewhat suspect centre-half pairing and keeper – get it sorted and we’d most definitely walk the SPL and more than likely take ‘that next step’ once more in Europe.

  28. Oh, meant to ask – the wind looked pretty bad inside the Park tonight, a lot of players on both sides were losing the flight of the ball and even on the deck it seemed to be doing strange things at times.

And I would still like a new Centre Back and Diawara. Have the letter written to santa. Says he will be on his rounds in Europe on 6th January and will see what he can do………………….

  30. antrimkev,

Ki gave ball away far too easily tonight. at that level you will get picked off if not consistant.

I doubt he will be better in another league like EPL or la Liga as he was against this type of oppositoin tonight and did not live up to it.

Hopefully he will become better and maybe we do not play him in best role, but what is that role?

    Anyone any news on Ledley.

  31. Thought we were unlucky tonight, only a couple of good saves from AM goalie kept us out. Still can’t believe the goal was disallowed.

Ki was shocking tonight, good to see Broonie back.
