Brown for Stokes sums up perfectly our cautious approach when a goal down.

I like Brown but to take off a striker for a midfielder who rarely scores suggests winning was not a priority.

We had a striker on bench.

We play like were coached to keep damage to a minimum rather than win.

Whole list of responses to that:

    Failings? Never saw them.

If you mean errors in the defence, Glenda has little game time apart from the weekend.

The loss of Brick67 exposed the defence – simple as.

Kayal and the goal – only he knows what really happened. An bad, unlucky goal to lose, and if not for that we may well have won.

“My Bug bears are the total apparent zero work from the training ground being evident out on the pitch”

We played better football than the team we were playing, who won the Europa 6 months ago.

“The two players who get more time on the ball than anyone else on our team are the two centre halves.”

They were the only ones who had to hold on to the ball before passing while the rest of the team moved back out. Again this is the 2nd half you’re talking about, where Brick67 had been the bridge between the defence and the midfield.

“A lack of movement off the ball is another bug bear which has remained steadfast since Strachan came in.”

We seemed to be passing the ball about no bother, which isn’t usually possible without some movement.

You conclude with negativity about the future. I see the total opposite. Progression, entertainment, and a young team that are maturing at a rate that must be alarming to huns.

  3. Just in from match. If we play like that we will skoosh the league. AM are VG, we were unfortunate to lose. Draw was deserved, a win with a bit of luck.

Bottom line, we never disgraced ourselves, we did not look put of place against the holders ? (can someone confirm)

The game could have honestly went either way, it was down to a mistake, both teams had better chances.

I fully expect young Kayal to have learned a big lesson tonight, so I’m finished with it, show us what you can do Kayal, hail hail.

Still carrying too many passengers, but that said, Celtic gave them a fright tonight and we could hav won, next game please, enjoying watching us at the moment, warts and all.

    Hail Hail

  5. Good performance shame about the result. Looks like we are beginning to hit form, at last, and hopefully carry this through to the end of the season. The league has got to be the priority but I’ll take an extended run in Europe.

    Q. I am in central London, Buckingham Palace Rd to be precise, the night of the Udinese game. Any London Tims point me to the best pub to watch the game that night. I would prefer not to travel too far as I have an early appointment in SE1 the next morning.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hail! Hail!

  6. See all the huns are out in force tonight…They must be comming to terms with the demise of der HUN… HaHaHa….

    Was Wanyama injured?

He was def limping at HT…

  8. Decent performance against a better team than us.

Initially thought Kayal was trying to head the ball but now not sure. A few folk were giving Kayal pelters but NL ducked out of the way of one in Lyon , doesn’t make either a coward.

Madrid showed they were good by making sure Forrest and Samaras got little service in the second half, sometimes it’s not always a player falling out of the game, the other team can make them fall out of it.

Main worry now is Ledley’s injury.Roll on Sunday.

  9. Our young team performed well against a decent side that plays at pace. Samaras did well all night, Forrest had a couple of good runs and Matthews looked calm and composed. Kayal played well too, the goal apart.

They got far more space in the second half when we moved to 4-4-2 as we were outnumbered in midfield. That made it more difficult for us to get the ball forward to the front two. Sami moved up front when Brown came on meaning we played the same formation at the end but we couldn’t create a clear chance.

The injury to Ledley is a blow and if Wanyama was an injury rather than a tactical change that’s bad news too.

  10. I thought Ki put on a master class in midfield tonight, if you want schooled in how to find space in midfield you should watch him…

when the opposition have the ball, of course!

Ki aside, I was quite encouraged by the performance until the goal, we really, really could do with a goalie!

    Hail Hail!

Good post. And its goin to get worse for the “evil immigrant”… just watch as the situation worsens, scapegoats are goin to be required. Some of us sons of immigrants have been lucky enough to make good in the current system, and rationalise that through the ole “hard-nosed, realistic, businessmen” line. They need to be mindful of who they stand on to reach their dizzy heights.

  12. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

For current buns posting tonight……just read ‘Sammy critics’………….they’re hurting bad since they know the Tick is approaching the Tock……..every one of their players is making sure they don’t get injuried, like naysmith, before the window……..Spurs game getting nearly as exciting as the Celtivc game C5………….they got a penalty and player snt off for hanling on the line, but he didn’t actually handle it at all……..and the ref was right in front of it……!!!!

  13. If Sammi plays like that against the Huns we will destroy them. His running and energy were sensational. One of those nights when even his mistakes turned out fine – he gave the ball away a couple of times and then won it straight back. He created plenty chances too, just unlucky nobody was at the end of them. He looked the fittest player on the park in the first half – keep it up.

Bringing Brown on for Stokes was the right thing to do as we could not get hold of the ball. Cant score if you dont have the ball.

  15. Neil "Penfold" Lennon on

Disappointed with the result but not the worst perfomance given the quality of the opposition. I thought after a great start, mentally we seemed to lose it either side of half time (which unfortunately we seem to do fairly regularly).

Great perfromances from Sammi and Beram. Glenda should be nowhere near that team though.

I caught the end of Sportsound on shortbread and Chich Dung said Wanyama was injured…..hopefully not serious.

Can’t wait to get back up to the upper tier …..got soaked tonight.

We lost Ledley and Brick67, yet still managed to look like getting an equaliser.

They were cyncial – manager did his homework. When playing Celtic at home, stick the boot right in, stop the flow.

That was what went against us tonight, and we’ll learn from it, just as MON’s teams did.

Disappointing result for us all as we have had our hopes renewed. A good sign for the future.

  17. notoneofthepeepil on

Wanyama just said on his twitter account he got a knock on his hip and was struggling after that

  18. Athletico spent £45 million in the summer…We did not disgrace ourselves tonight (Not by a long shot) and also every player played their part…God bless the TIC…

  19. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Allgreen. Good post fella in the early part of the game we played really well then they scored and we lost a bit of our confidence and they gained confidence. We were not disgraced by a quality Spanish side.Kayal seemed to make an error at the goal but these things happen he is one of our better players and he works his socks off so I dont hold it against him show me the man who has never made a mistake and I will show you a man who has never done anything.H.H.

  20. Desperately disappointed in tonight’s game, especially as it was the manager’s decision to sacrifice a midfielder for a forward at half time that turned the game. I’ve supported Neil Lennon through thick and thin but tonight he made an error of judgement that was so basic it’s hard to believe he made it.

Celtic played decent football in the first half and were arguably the better team and that’s even making allowances for the ‘bomb scare’performance of Forster and Majstorovic, but the decision to replace Wanyama with Hooper was just so wrong it’s difficult to fathom how the manager arrived at such a plainly stupid game changer. Why unbalance the team and give Atletico free reign in midfield, their manager must have thought Christmas had come early.

In one momentously stupid decision the whole momentum of the team was stalled and the team reverted to their inept game plan of getting Forster and Majstorovic to pick out 50/60 yard passes when we all know they’re incapable of passing a ball 5 yards.

I’m livid we’ve lost the momentum.Get rid of Forster, Majstorivic and Scott Brown but just to balance things and end on a high I’ve got to say that Adam Matthews played a blinder tonight.

  21. JimmyQuinnsBits @ 21:03

    Well said amigo.

“Immigrant” seemed to become a “bad word” in the last 20 years – a meeja led attitude that defies the economical truth.

Did you see the video of the mad woman on the London tram this week? The saving grace was that she was in the minority – that irony was lost on her obviously :))

  22. Just in from game and feel that although we did not play well particularly

in the 2nd half when we completely lost our shape still think a draw would have been a fair result

I am afraid very few get pass marks tonight big Sammy had a good game as did young Mathews

the CB pairing were truly awful and young Ki looks disinterested at times, by the way what is the

script with Joe and Vic , the big man was signalling to the bench that he had a problem before he

was taken off, does anyone else agree with me that wee James needs to cut out the moaning and

throwing his arms up in the air every time he is dispossesd, he should be playing to the whistle not

    acting like a prima donna

My life would be a helluva lot brighter if I could take some of your outlooks on board – no doubt!

Glenda – lack of game time reason for poor performance…

What excuse when he has had a poor game with game time?

It doesnt change with or without game time…

Anyways, we will have to leave it at that because we are miles apart in our opinions.

agree about James. He had a poor night. Losing the ball and looking for fouls he’s never going to get instead of trying to win it back.

aye, a guy at work showed the video to me… makes you despair… what sort of home incubates this mindset, and she had a wee boy, less than 1 year old I’d guess, with her? That kid has no chance – and thats the challenge for us

  26. murdochbhoy @ 21:09

You’re desperately disappointed at the manager’s tactics in the 2nd half, which saw us create more chances despite losing two of our key players at half time to injury.

    Oookkayyyy…….

Heid doctor for one, please. ;)

  27. I thought that it was noticeable that on the four or five occasions Sammy was fouled the referee awarded us a free kick. Unlike the Scottish Premier League where when Sammy is fouled the MIB awards the opposition a free kick.

    Anyone else notice this?

Decent performance all round and a big up for Sammy.
