  1. Lambert’s main point last night, that he made several times, was that losing games was becoming acceptable which is unacceptable.

    No leaders on the park.

That today no one will be grabbing their teammates by the throat and berating them for their shit performances. Instead, they will all arrive for breakfast and by tomorrow the result will be forgotten about.

He did also say that Ange inherited a shambles but reeled himself back in when he remembered Lennon was next to him.

Lennon bit his tongue most of the night before lambasting the players for hiding, not performing, not taking their chances and saying they were not good enough to play the way they were being asked too.

He also couldn’t help himself slagging off Frimpong.

  2. Some decent passages in our play yet with horrible lapses in awareness and decision-making.

Hard to win when you’re under-staffed from the start; Monty, Rogic and Abada were half-shows on the night.

Can’t see why AP persists with an LB novice when Boli and Scales are more natural and seasoned defenders (yes, I know Boli isnt even in the squad btw)

McCarthy plays with all the urgency of an old pro at a post-retirement charity match. A largish mistake?

Despite that, we have recruited a v good goalie, two gelling CBs, and two scarily good players in Jota and Kyogo who simply need to finish better. We’re not far away from very good, but often closer to just not good enough.

4-0 made it look worse than the 1-3 it shoulda been. KTF

  3. Good morning from a wet and windy Garngad

    We move on to Sunday.

Turnbull needs dropped asap no ball retention, no forward passing, to static, to slow, I could go on but I dont want upset myself.

BT now trolling us with (oh Rangers were hard done by, by getting demoted) Lambert and NFL who should have walked or been sacked last September and who has contributed to this whole feckin mess.

Good to see wee Kyogo and Cal Mac back.

I would drop Turnbull and put McCarthy in to sit and push Cal into Turnbull’s forward role and let him feed wee Kyogo all day with those 2 great football brain’s in a forward position we should be ok.

  4. Ps regarding Lambert and Lennon, I forgot they have a question and no really gee you the answer session coming up that I hope no one turns up to.

Watch out for more of them on our tv before 10 October

    D :)

  5. I wonder if Lenny will tell the audience at his Q & A session what fat swally said to him at Parkhead that made him go bonkers…… nah I dont think he will either.

    D :)

  6. The biggest sign of hope was ange trying something different – biton in midfield – I hope ange takes that to aberdeen – try something different and would it kill the club to park the bus

  7. JACKIEMAC – agree with Nir. I think he could anchor the deep mid letting Cal move fwd more creatively as D66 says.

Surely, though, he has to try Shaw sometime soon; maybe even a cameo for the last 30 of a game.

  8. Yeah – Quadrophenian. Remember RC ‘s effect on Rodgers’ team. That was trying something new.

  9. Yes guys although I am not a fan of Nir if it allows Cal Mac to move forward a position let’s try it.

    D :)

  10. Not just myself, everyone across the world is asking for bigger and more extreme punishments in terms of racism. It needs to be eradicated.

A couple of weeks ago his players were standing next to union bear banners inside Ibrox proclaiming they stand by the banned. The banned being racists some of whom are awaiting trial.

Words genuinely fail with this utter clown.

  11. Bloody hell bhoys; four CQN posts in a row kinda agreeing on something!!

Quick take a photo or screengrab; it’ll never happen again.

  12. Good morning CQN

19 goals conceded in 6 Europa Lge games last season dreadful group campaign

8 goals conceded in 2 games so far in this campaign, inverted fullbacks is a high risk gamble against top class opposition, West Ham, Real Betis and Leverkusen have all ruthlessly exploited these gaps created in wide areas when we lose possession, its going to be another tough watch in the Europa Lge

The Turnbull Rogic combo lacks pace, athleticism and defensive capability, Turnbull hasn’t done it offensively either, Rogic has come up with the goods in cup finals and importantly at Ibrox in the past, both Rogic and Turnbull poor last night with McGregor firefighting and recycling all over the midfield

Unless these issues are addressed by Ange for our forthcoming Europa Lge double header its going to be a tough Europa Lge campaign………………again

  13. Wholeheartedly agree with the McGregor playing an advanced role, lets call it the no.10 position, under Rodgers his goals in big games gave us a fantastic return, no doubt the midfield needs re shaped and different personnel

    Idealistic philosphy over realism………………

    aff oot

  14. FS Give the new manager Ange a chance. At least let him build a team first before trying to rip it down, it takes time for new players to gel. Plenty of Huns ready to do that, don’t be green huns. League is a million times more important than Europe after chrimbo. Mon the hoops. Aberdeen is the real game. Hail Hail.

  16. MadMitch

Agreed that McCarthy doesn’t have legs, but I see his role as basically sitting in front of the defence to allow CalMac more freedom. He looks like he’s not the right fit in our current set-up which is why I think he would sit and allow CalMac and Shaw to be the ones breaking to support the attack – they do have the legs.

    Inquisitiv

Agreed that some of our players aren’t good enough – Starfelt may come good, McCarthy may get fit and settle in a different set up but they are both gambles. Trouble is we don’t have alternatives until Julien, Juranovic and Taylor return. Monty could be a replacement for Boli, but feel Monty needs a break from the first team for his own good.

It’s not a great side I’ve suggested but with a tweak to the system (so we drop deep out of possession) it could get results, which is what we and Ange need right now.

Hello again all you young rebels.

    TAURANGA BHOY

Nice seeing you post again, unfortunately ANGE won’t get any patience

from a now self entitled Celtic support, his style of all out attack would

only work if we had the type of player suited to that skill set, meaning

super fit, superior first touch and vision, and the all important touch of

class, these type of players end up at the PSG, and CHELSEA money ball

    Clubs.

Now we are at the stick or twist stage of our season, do we hold our nerve

and give him the season with another January window to get the players

he thinks/ knows can play his system, or bring in a messiah? and who

Would that be? and even if the board had a brain fart and went all in

money wise and offered the world to the very best, would they come to

Celtic and risk their reputation in that bigoted cesspit of Bunny Scudland.?

No? Well what if we bring in the young St Johnston manager ? or the Hibs

Guy, how long would they get with a support already panicking after a

    few bad results.

My suggestion with no guarantee of any success would be to stick with

Ange, moneyball him in January to get who he thinks can do his job and

take a huge swally of the rid biddy before each game he..he

    That works for me.

    H.H. Mick

  18. SFTB

Totally agree with you. Feel much better after last nights

    ‘performance’ than Livingston.

Interesting that the German press had their goalkeeper as man of the match !

    Please support if possible :::::

The CQN/Sentinelcelts community, and the many friends of Garry Duncan aka Delaneys Dunky, would like to commemorate Garry’s life and friendship as well pay respect to his recent untimely passing.

We have had many great suggestions from you on how we best commerate Garry’s life, including flowers, a memorial brick, donation to Mary’s meals and financial support for the family etc.

Garry’s family, like so many others in our world today, is not a rich family and find their wealth is through the happiness of the family, so to have the burden of not only laying Garry to rest, but also the cost that goes with it is horrific .

Having spoken with Garry’s son Ryan, we feel it appropriate to pass any monies raised direct to the family to let them decide the best way to use it.

Anyone who wants to support the family in leaving a long lasting commemoration in honour of Garry can do so through making a donation via bank transfer to –

Thank you in advance for supporting Garry and his family at this very difficult time.

  23. If we continue with that back 4 and midfield , from last night, Ange will be gone by Christmas.

Starfelt, Ralston ,Montgomery, Rogic and Turnbull.

    All not good enough.

Someone mentioned Bitton in midfield. Have actually watched this guy in the last 9 years. There’s a reason why he has never been a regular pick.

    We are a mess.

Thats pretty much it tbh…………i see enough of AP’s team to stick. A couple of tweaks and you never know we might get a fab team together.

If we don’t win the league (although leagues are not won in September lol) so be it we’ve all been here before.

The league title has always swung between us and corrupt co. Nothing really changes and the rotten mob will always do what the rotten mob do.

“I really would love it” if we put together a fine and feared young team for Europe.

  26. squire danaher on

From middle to front last night, among what would be called the front 6, McGregor was the only one who could be remotely described as being able to commit a tackle.

To make matters worse, four of the remaining five; Jota, Abada, Rogic and Turnbull are what could disparagingly described as sanddancers, by which I mean they are not just physically unlikely to be effective at defensive duties, but they demonstrably have no interest in being so and, further, this is accepted and evidently factored into their selection.

From what I understand, the idea to deal with this is that the chosen full backs press on and invert infield to provide cover to, ahem, facilitate the required sanddancery.

It is abundantly obvious that – and I have always liked the bhoy – that Ralston’s particular skills set do not run to him being comfortable in this role, and especially against better opposition like last night. Despite that, as always, the bhoy never hid last night, and was still making runs upfield in the 94th minute when he could barely totter.

On the bench was Scales who has played in six UEFA ties this season, is evidently matchfit, and on the face of it would’ve been a defensively capable option last night ahead of at least one of the sanddancers.

Despite Bankier’s “extensive rebuild” we have a group of players which is wholly unbalanced. We are overloaded with wide players, non-defenders and youngsters lacking in first team experience. We have three poor backup goalkeepers, and are short of defenders.

We have no means of preparing youngsters. We continue to describe players of 21 and 22 as ‘kids’. Check the average age of the BL starting 11.

We have a manager who is evidently – dependent on your perspective – singleminded or bloodyminded in persisting with his system, despite it seeming obvious he does not have the tools to do so. To my mind he is playing square pegs in round holes, doing neither himself or the players in question any favours.

How long does he get to attempt to turn sow’s ears into silk purses?

Should he take the blame if he can’t?

At what point do the support get real and start asking serious questions of the custodians of the club for their continual downsizing of the club?

Instead most are blind to the fact that we are all being played in several ways, the latest being encouraged to blame the manager who’s been in charge for 17 competitive games, and start and feed an internet frenzy that he’s getting sacked.

What’s the betting that the Lawwell poodles McGowan and McConnell will be pushing this in the next few days, with pieces in their respective papers briefing against the manager’s lack of pragmatism, designed to deflect responsibility for last night from the custodians who have, after all, done their bit with the “extensive rebuild” of the squad.

    Compare and contrast.

18 years ago Bayern Munich celebrated a 0-0 at Celtic Park.

    How far we have sunk.

Excellent post . Couldn’t have put it better myself .

  31. Haven’t read back but has anyone come up with an idea as to what Turnbull was trying to do at their first goal ?

I’m not sure how this ends but a badly assembled team, playing an alien footballing system, for a ‘singleminded/stubborn’ manager who has been poorly backed, does probably mean more defeats in the offing.

Do we hold our nerve? Past experience tells us that the board will fire him regardless, if only to cover up their own shithousery in the process.

A reminder that we are still a rudderless club with a sad fall from grace at a European level.

” Calmac, Kyoto, Jota and Hart were magnificent. The rest were limited ..”

I would say that Cameron-V and Ralston were a bit better than `limited`.

I thought the first half hour was football the way I like to see it played. Fast, furious ,evenly contested and no little skill. The difference, again IMO, was that the Leverkusen players were much more classy and , as a result, didn`t make telling mistakes when the tempo was high. We did and lost two goals.

As for TGFITW booing Frimpong? Let me be tolerant and just say that they are not my kind of supporter.Indeed, many Celtic supporters are becoming like that and the pigs and the humans are increasingly indistinguishable.

Golf call in a fairly wild Arbroath.

For whatever reason, it would seem Ange doesn’t favour Scales. Bringing Bolingoli back instead of giving Scales a run was a bit of a statement in my opinion.

He says it’s because he came from a “different league”. Hasn’t all his signings come from a different league? This is what happens when the coach has no say in the signings.

Interesting about Lambert and Lennon . I felt a lot of their comments , particularly from Lambert were a none too subtle vindication of Lennon.

    ———

Lambert at least recognised that the club was “settling for mediocrity”.

Lennon was a disgrace all night. Usual self-justification; bitter, ungracious.

And the self-professed Greatest Support in the World did themselves no favours booing incessantly a young man whose sale basically funded our close season “extensive rebuild”
