  1. we walk through the spl but cl is a huge step up no scotswatched second half lc and the danish team, thought the danish team was technically better better but still were beaten.

  2. Bgicup winners 11.14 totally agree only thing you missed about the Germans they are all clinical , we can only try to learn from them now back to lurking , in Brendan we trust goodnight all & godbless

Don’t get it, last two years the same folk’s are telling us we’re pash and will never see the CL again, BR comes in, 6 mths down the line total transformation, we’re in but know we’re up against it, punchin above our weight, BR telling us we’re not the finished article yet and still you get the same fuds coming on to spout the same pish.

  4. A footballing lesson was handed out to us tonight.

Gladbach beat us in a manner similar to PDG in 95 and previous German visitors like Dortmund and Hamburg.

We have played 18 ties against German teams (including East Germany here) and we have 3 wins 4 draws and 11 defeats. We don’t match up well with the Teuton.

We were beaten by a superior team. Though a few of their number played really well, they are primarily a team without stars. Even Hazard’s wee brother is not wildly superior to his team. They can be a benchmark for our aspirations. They do not spend wildly- they develop players on the training ground- though they do have the advantage of honing those skills in the competitive environment of the Bundesliga whilst we play teams that are largely of English League Two standard and can skate most games.

While we harried and chased them, when we got the ball we tried to keep it and recycle it. They harried us, hunting in packs in order to win the ball and immediately tried to hurt us. I lost count of how many times the German who tackled or intercepted our ball would immediately spin in behind or go wide in order to be available for a quick slick pass. They were braver than us for the most part and deserved their win. We were not at the same level as we managed against City but they played with such energy in the first half they drew our sting.

I was just beginning to believe we had weathered the storm when Kolo made his first mistake. He merits our grace and forgiveness.

We are in CL trouble now- it will take a very good result to dig us out of this.

  5. a light insanity on

Really disappointed tonight. No players turned up. The twelfth man were poor too.

Anyway can we move from highlighting racism to capitalism on the big screen? I haven’t a racist bone in my body. Try for something new?

  6. Just back from CP. Beaten by a fitter, faster, stronger and technically better team. No shame in that. Haven’t read back but no doubt the usual suspects are back on now that we’ve lost a game.

Fair play to Toure for putting his hands up and taking responsibility for the goals, well done to the BMG coach for getting it tactically spot on, who else would think to man mark a 19 year old left back.

Positives for us. Erik, thought he was immense, Brown ran his heart out with no support from the empty jersey beside him and Gordon who proved why he should be in the team ahead of DDV.

Didn’t think we were ready for CL this season but now that we are in it it’ll be a steep learning curve with a few lessons along the way. Onwards to Monchengladback, looking forward to it.

  7. Don’t suppose that big guy Jannick Westergaard would be in our price range? Thought he was immense tonight.

  8. Ha Ha ha.

Nice comfortable win prediction I made a couple of days ago blown apart by lacklustre Barca-esque display lacking tempo, pressing and sharpness. Fecking bookies cleaned me out again. Hey-ho.

Why can’t we learn that to compete in any CL game we need the Man City-game mentality of hammering it from the first whistle.

We cannot ‘contain’ teams at this level.

We cannot ‘strategize’ in real-time at this level.

We do NOT have the Zidane-esque heads in the middle to dictate or control a CL match.

Our ONLY chance at this level is to be on the front-foot from the off and make our own luck.

BMG are a very competent German side but we played right into their hands – turned what should have been a tempestuous fight for survival against a relentless onslaught in a cauldron of ferverent support, into a run-of-the-mill Bundesliga game of containment and counter-press.

    So sad.

Kolo- superb blocks and interceptions in a MOTM first half, then sunday League calamity in the second.

Broony – only Tim with pass-marks; solo battle against the overwhelming midfield odds.

    Calum McGregor- eh?

Overall – bewildering lack of commitment and tempo; disregarding the assets which make us something to be reckoned with against superior opponents.

Incredibly, we’re still only a win off second-place afte rhalf the group games.

but ffs Celtic, just go out and repeat the City performance and see what happens instead of this faux-sophisticat preening vulnerable pish that we succumnb to every time we think we’re the dog’s.

Oh, and lurking Huns – looks like you might be on the end of some CL wrath come Sunday. Nae luck,.

Just wanted to highlight the huge improvement in such a short time.

European football after Xmas is , for me , far more important than any of the Scottish Cups.

    Big ask , though.

  10. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Near the end of the game, the ball broke to Moussa in their box. Within a second four Gladbach players were on him. Unbelievable discipline and organisation in the last ten minutes from them.

Their movememt and as others have posted, their speed of thought and foot, showed me how much mprovement is needed by our players in those areas among others

A bad night for us but onwards to Sunday

Ps that’s our second champions league game on the trot, neither physio has been on the pitch.

Have you got a bank account ?

  12. How can Henderson start on Saturday then not be in the squad tonight?

    Hopefully back in on Sunday.

  13. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Well beaten by an excellent BMG. Not too downhearted. Brendan’s building something here and you’ll have nights like tonight at this stage in our development. Felt for big Kolo who’s a class player and had a great game other than the two goals. Onwards and upwards to massacre (again) the mighty Glasgow Sevco (about to enter administration)….

  14. I’ve not read back and have no intention of doing so because the usual huns will have been on who don’t post when we are winning. Just back in from the game and a few beers. We were beaten by a vastly superior technical team but if you have ever lived in Germany you will know why.

Lots of red pyro among the MG fans but no doubt UEFA, TD and the SMSM will concentrate on the guy who lit the sparkler in the middle of the Green Brigade.

We are where we are – expectations too high for BR’s first few months as the Boss. CL income means we don’t need to sell, onwards and upwards.

  15. Bobby Murdochs Ankle supportin Oscar Knox on

    Macjay,

My point exactly, massive improvement and still it’s not good enough for some.

I hate us getting beat, but like to think we’ll learn from nights like this.

Also doesn’t help when your nightshift and can’t get to the game……

Just turn over the sevconians on Sunday.

    Bma.

  16. Tempting and easy to have a real go after tonight, but in reality we were beaten by a superior team (on the night at least).

They were fast, precise in the pass and moved into spaces. And they competed really well to win every 2nd ball.

We fell short of that, sometimes it happens.

Biggest thing for me….I said in the close season that our central midfield was a critical area. We lack strength, physique and 30/40 yard passing capability from deeper positions. This brings lots of pressure against good teams.

Anyway, after last season, our progress is absolutely on track.

  17. Outpassed and outclassed tonight, we never got a foothold in the game all night. We needed the high tempo pressing start a la Man City.Small steps for Celtic; we have good money now, a couple in January , same again next summer.Brendan will know what positions need improving now.We cannot play 2 wingers at this level , in this system IMO, leaves us a man short in midfield, and we are chasing shadows.Brown , Gordon and Sviachenko pass marks for me, wee Paddy looked sharper of late when he came on, a possible starter on Sunday maybe.

  18. i think the effort was there but we chased shadows, the attacked in groups and defended same way.

    we couldnt cope.

  19. a light insanity on

Yes. And I can’t question capitalism? I think I have been assigned a race and haven’t a racist bone in my body. Your point?

  20. Sunday will see Simunovic for Toure (Kolo struggled through last 15mins with what looked like a groin injury), hopefully Henderson for Bitton (anyone for Bitton would do) and possibly Griffiths for Dembele (he looked jaded tonight, too many games in too short a space of time?).

  21. I see the argument re Kolo not playing on Sunday but unless injured I’d be amazed if he didn’t play.

Don`t really want to harp back .

    Put simply.

    We have a future.

And a few bickies at our disposal.

    Magic , mate.

A cuffing for the undead on Sunday would go down extremely well with us punters.

    Greed is not good.

  23. Better team won.A sharper, wiser, faster performance from BMG that exposed all our deficiencies at this level.

If used wisely this could be our most valuable lesson this season. No matter the circumstances we will never reach Barcelona’s level in modern day football, and as long as the Shiek keeps bankrolling ManC they will remain outwith our reach too.We could, however, create a team as good as BMG.

They are a true team.Every player they had knew his role and gave their maximum in it.Their cohesion was a joy to watch. But they don’t have a ‘superstar’ in their line-up.Tonight they played in harmony with each other and didn’t ask anything of their teammates they didn’t think they were capable of.Their was no tricks or showboating, everything was simple and effective.

All of these qualities can be achieved through intelligent coaching and proper application, being as good as BMG is well within our capabilities.

I never enjoy watching us lose but sometimes there’s a silver lining in it.Well done BMG and onto Sunday for us.

Being in the CL’s the prize this year.

Nothing more capitalist than today`s fitba` , pal.

Past week has been hard to post on here.

    Tonight seems OK.

    Most pertinent question.

Is Roy Keane a love child of Gerry Adams. Beard and slow voice

  27. OK Gary…

    I hadn’t noticed that.

    Tuppence worth.

    Having read a thing back.

The German team superbly organised and in performance in defence.

Us kept giving the ball back to them.

    Sinky tried too hard.

    Nothing went right.

    Brendan interview. He knows.

  29. That game reminded me why I’m usually pessimistic prior to European night’s. Huge step up in level of opposition. Our opponents have the benefit of testing themselves against Bayern , Dortmund ,Wolfsburg etc on a regular basis. We have Aberdeen ,Hearts and some form of Newco. Munchengladbach were a slick well coached outfit who can be physical when required. A Celtic goal at any time could have changed the complexion of the game.

It wasn’t to be. Back to some parochial hate festival this weekend. A victory will restore some feel good factor. Keep the faith.

  30. Impressed by our managers dignified analysis of the game. And fair play to big Kolo for his post match interview. We were beaten by a better team but tbh I couldn’t see BMG scoring tonight until we gifted them 2 goals. We’re in with the big boys now and we live to fight another day. Hh
