Beaten fair and square by a very good side. Gladbach did to us what we love doing to other teams. They are better at it than us, at the minute.
Trying to look for positives. The main one is that we are immeasurably better than at this time last year (this time last year I was in Molde, refusing to believe what I was seeing), we have a top manager who has got us STARTING to play great football, and STARTING to turn us around.
We are about two inches up a long and steep learning curve. Just being in the CL group stages this time is a success. Being drawn in to the Group of Death was always going to be a sore one, and it is.
But let’s see where we are and how we play this time next year, when Brendan has his feet under the table properly.
I was concerned before the game at the levels of expectation that were eddying around – didn’t like seeing headlines (on CQN) about Sviatchenko “roaring” that BMG “should be afraid” (despite the fact he didn’t actually say that in the quotes) and “Let’s blow ’em away” from Nir, etc, and predictions of 3 and 4 nil to us.
I think Brendan has done wonders so far with what is basically Ronny Deila’s squad.
I am hoping that 12 months down the line we will be a lot closer to CL levels than we are now.
And anyway, gutted or not, I know wake up tomorrow still a Tim.
And that’s the main thing, when all is said and done.
Felt sick for big Kolo tonight, BTW
Hamiltontim on
I was really impressed with Gladbach tonight. Yes, we were poor but technically and tactically they were far superior to us.
The pressing that we saw against Man City was almost non existent and that afforded them time and space which they utilised well.
Despite that it was two awful defensive errors which cost us the game. Big Kolo will be absolutely furious with himself right now but we need to remember that in spite of his class, these type of errors have permeated his career. His qualities make him a star in this Celtic side but against the quality of opposition we were up against tonight, his mistakes will probably be punished.
Head up big fella you’re still one of our best.

BM harried us out that game and we weren’t brave enough. KT early booking didn’t help either. He has my support also.
BR not slating players publically… he’ll get rewarded for that.

Despite 2 mistakes causing 2 goals, didn’t think we deserved anything from tonight IMO.
No Celtic Euro magic tonight just a complete anti climax following the highs of a draw at home to Manchester, on a night when BMG even won the singing contest.
Good side they are and happily we don’t play German teams every year never mind every week, but most of our players gave a good account of themselves, especially Sviatchenko, Tierney, Brown, and Rogic. Could have been one game in sequence too many for Moussa Dembele with Leigh Griffiths breathing down his neck for the starting berth.
Scott Sinclair showed his human side when he should have put a superb diagonal pass from Tom Rogic away in the first half.
No failures including Kolo Toure who was immaculate in the first half and unluckily caught but still a class Celtic act. Nir Bitton’s game suffered against the better opponents, when he just doesn’t get his SPL slice of time to caress the ball.
With Rogic a spent force after 70 minutes, the January window came to mind as there was no one on the bench close to filling his boots .

Harsh reality check tonight. BM were exceptional in everything they did and got their tactics spot on. I thought their no13 Stindl was a wonderful player. On the plus side i thought Sviatchenko had a good game and Roberts did well when he came on. We wouldn’t be in the CL if it wasn’t for Kolo so it’s hard to be too harsh on him. We just need to suck it up and learn. The gulf in class between domestic football and European is bigger than ever and it’s only going to get wider.
