More to the point, why is any team wearing a poppy over a week before Remembrance Sunday?
This whole charade is getting as bad as Christmas displays in August.
Worse,it is IMO damaging to the income of the fund,as I am not far off refusing to part with a penny in their direction. And I would never have thought that would be the case.

A thought has occurred to me over the last few days reading the blog particularly when the subject turns to the underwhelming performances of our strikers . Have we signed any player from a Scottish team since Tony Watt?
I have no desire to resurrect the Johnny Russell debate – although I do think that player or indeed the reviled Daly would have scored more than the three forward players we have signed recently against Scottish teams- but is this ignoring of players playing in our own league coincidence or a more deliberate ploy. I know that there isn’t a great deal of real talent out there but I think we’d be stupid to ignore players on our own doorstep.
Obviously if I’ve forgotten somebody we have signed since the summer of 2011 my point is an even stupider one than usual

A team who bring in promising youngsters then try to improve them before selling them on for a profit are hardly likely to splash the cash on a proven goalscorer just as they would be reluctant to sign an older player who is coming to the end of his career. When bringing in these youngsters they are aware that not all of them will succeed so if two out of every say five make it and earn the club big money from transfers im sure the club would be happy. Some of us as Celtic supporters still have not accepted we are now a feeder club.In 1967 we were the kings of Europe but we have never reached that height again and the way football is structured and the money involved we are most unlikely to do so again.Taking that into account Neil Lennon is doing a first class job at Parkhead and if you are unsure just think back to the recent past and our performances under Tony Mowbray.H.H.
……………………………………………….
The point is that we’re telling them they SHOULD splash the cash (not an unaffordable amount) on a striker. The situation at the moment is different from normal times. We have taken in a lot of money and we can afford to spend some of it on a proven goalscorer a la FInboggasson. No one is suggesting Neil Lennon is not doing a stellar job. Just give us a bloody striker an be done with it.

im not saying lenny isnt doing a good job either
but that doesnt mean the strike force is quite weak
im not sure how many out of every five signings we can sell for big money either
but lets just say that it was 5 out of 5
would that entitle us to buy a proven striker or would that be board bashing for even having the temerity to suggest such a thing

Greetings Bhoys and Ghrils,
Just up again and reading back. ( Went back to bed after taking mini Greenpinata into town ) As usual some excellent contributions, and has previously been stated it takes all type of contribution to ensure a successful blog. Positive / Negative. Praise / Criticism. Pro-active / Reactive. We have had them all.
While I can appreciate the sentiments of those ( Many esteemed posters ) who are calling for a major signing of a goal scorer in January I think the reality of the market will dictate. We all seem to agree that we have not got the firepower up front that we would wish, indeed need but acquiring a top class striker may prove to be an impossible ask.
I do not think the fee would necessary deter but the wage bill most definitely would. Withstanding dressing room harmony how do we persuade an accomplished striker to ply his trade here?
Our game if not dying is in serious decline, realistically our season depends on European football. Is it any wonder that the game was played yesterday with one eye in Amsterdam. The importance of Wednesday’s game is such that 1-1 was IMO a good result.
Hearts will go down and another four games we love to win will be lost. In domestic football more fans will continue to vote with their feet.
Like it or not; one contributory factor in selling our game ( To both fans and potential players ) was the “Old firm” games. Again like it or not the demand and the ticket pricing proved this.
We will win the league full stop. No ifs or buts. Is this predictable-. Yes. Is this healthy- No. Is this sustainable- No. not in the long term.
In this context NFL and the players are to be commended. As is Peter Lawwell.
Does Scottish football need, want or wish to have some entity of the club formally known as “Rangers” back in the top flight. I am undecided. I never thought I ever would be.
On one hand : I want them gone, kaput and liquidated ( Liquidated in the true meaning not a redefinition of the Oxford dictionary )
On the other : Dismiss all morals,If we are to stay in Scottish football we need competition and dare I say it more excitement, less predictability and a focus for our contempt and intense dislike.
On a personal note if we were to draw them in the cup. I would go to Parkhead but I could not bring myself to go to Ibrokes. However I would never criticise any fans who would always choose to support the team.
In summary, IMO the status quo is unsustainable in the medium to long term and the only answer is to redouble our efforts using every available media outlet means to try and join the 20% of non English clubs in the premiership. Failing that a European league would then be the next and possibly more feasible option.

Still struggle to think of anyone since Bertie who left us then came back successfully.
Aiden left us with fond memories and a good fee. For me,I would leave it at that, rather than run the risk of tarnishing those memories.

There are plenty of players within our budget who would improve our team.
