Yeah, but that still doesn’t address the central issue.

The UK is essentially being run by an extreme right wing English National Party. Incredibly, even though they will be poorer and have less rights and freedom there are millions of people down south who will vote for this no matter the cost.

Brexit isn’t something that can be reversed – this is forever – and it’s only a matter of time before the UK waves goodbye to the NHS as we know it now (along with food/environmental standards etc etc). I just can’t see any hope for the UK, an Indy Scotland may got the same way but there’s a chance it won’t and that’s better than none.

Griffiths and Bolingoli also have to take their share of the blame for our lack of match fit strikers.

Griffiths because his behaviour during lockdown has left him unfit and Bolingoli because he caused us to miss 180 minutes of football where Klimala could have got more game time.

  3. Gutted!!

We should be beating a team like that, who are organised but not great by any stretch of the imagination.

It was a terrible piece of defending by Elhamed put us out.

I’ve not watched Lennon post match and it sounds as though I’m best keeping it that way.

I’m away for a run to see if that makes me feel better…

  4. Aye, I’ll keep the faith…… if the club loses faith with Lennon. i’ve always given the man from Lurgan the benefit of the doubt but last night was deplorable. He uses an excuse that his strikers are not fit but last year against Cluj he played Brown when he was unfit! And to criticise the players!! TOTAL LACK OF COHERENCY AND TRANSPARENCY. To think of how the supporters back our club with their monies………..You can only reach the conclusion after this latest fiasco that we are being played.

  5. Sevco game 12:30pm 17th October.

    A must win game

What changes to we need to do

    1. Do we continue with the Lennon, Kennedy, Strachan management team. Who does manger turn to for advice on tactics ? At present nobody

    2. Striker situation , we started transfer window with close on 60m cash in bank. So no financial need to sell Eddie , but the money which should of brought us quality will now plug a gap . Klimala send him out on loan. If he can’t get a game with no competition, then he is not good enough , Griffiths get him fit or get him out. Leaves us short Get it sorted

    3. Forrest. Cmon end of the line. He has been invisible in 5 out 6 last games v them

    4. Center Half. Get it done

    5. Left back. Get it done

    6. Midfield. Need a no 10

    7. CEO. Failure after failure Get a new CEO and experience director of football

Clock ticking. Same old not acceptable

  6. CONEYBHOY

Disagree slightly on the goalkeeper. While we’re not talking about glaring errors or being culpable, there’s no way he should be beaten for that second one. I have a feeling FF saves both if I’m honest. Again, not blaming Barkas but FF was a £10m keeper and there was no way we’d get like-for-like.

As for the strikers being unfit, why not start with one and bring him off when he tires? Or is that too obvious? Especially when there’s two of them.

Start with Ajeti and if/when he starts to wilt, bring on Klimala to run at their tiring defence.

Klimala has had a pre-season, worked hard and got himself a goal. I’m not buying that he isn’t match-fit and if he isn’t, why not?

  8. It’s too late to be rid of Neil Lennon but he will need to do a lot to get my faith back.

Last 16 of the Europa League and domestic success required.

We might not need to sell Eddie but one thing I will agree with Lennon on is that we need players who want to be here. Eddie’s not quite been at it recently and if his head’s been turned, you cash in while you can.

Lennon’s comments were intriguing and will leave us all guessing but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ajer was one of those mentioned although to be fair, he didn’t look too bad last night.

  10. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good morning.

The disappointment of last night is now starting to fade as I move into the acceptance phase.

Nagging away though is the suspicion (nothing more) that the two postponed games contributed hugely to the outcome last night.

Reflecting on the match stats posted earlier – we weren’t terrible – but it just didn’t click.

180 minutes of fitness sharpening MIGHT have helped.

PS, for what it’s worth, I can only recall one successful instance in my life of a team playing without strikers.

    1994 World Cup.

    Spain 3-0 Switzerland.

IMHO, the concept should be binned

    Hail hail

    Keep The Faith

  11. Same as it ever was. Panty wetter and towel throwers at the beginning of the season. Get a life.

They had two shots and scored both. El named at fault but where was his back up. We wasted too many chances, not enough games or that edge we need. Game over that’s football. No team has a god given right to win every game.

Couldn’t give a toss about Europe this year, unless we are joining it as a free country. The only important thing is getting to the ten over the whole season. We have the squad to do it and Neil Francis Lennon is the Mhan to win the ten.

All the haters get the fuck. Go support Man City.

  12. ulysses mcghee - a demographic of one on

Initial reports were of a fit, high press team – reliant on the attacking wing backs and bolstered by 2 up front – fit and fast and well situated for high press or counter attacking football . Within 4 games that’s evaporated – wingers have been bounced in or out OR have quickly lost all appetite for trying to beat the last man or get to the by-line. Teams sit in. We fail to have any answer to that.

The operative word there for me is ‘trying’ – I’ll never lose faith in guys who are trying.

But wingers turning back up, or in, leading to the very familiar cross the pitch, ponderous switch – which in turn leads to our midfield detached from or passive to both attack and defence.

We’re tactically all over the place – in a miniscule snapshot – Lennon (And his backroom team it must be added) picked a creative, goal-scoring mid as a forward. That same forward is our corner taker — we then have no one applying the trouble and movement a natural forward would and rely solely on our big defenders latching onto something.

I wish this was the first time I’ve had to write an ‘it’s a shame we weren’t better prepared’ post Europe exit post but – it’s been going on for years…

    Entropy…

  13. Last night all stemmed from Rodgers calling out out Lawwell publicly over his incompetency and going behind the managers back by signing players he didn’t want and not getting the players in that he wanted.

Lawwell was never going to appoint someone from then on who wasn’t a yes man.

The embarrassing scenario where Lennon was given the job in the showers followed.

Now we have 3 Euro defeats against clubs who we should beat comfortably if we had a modern day manager rather than an old school dinosaur who relies on motivation rather than tactics.

    It is costing us millions.

Any forward thinking CEO would already have sacked Lennon, buy for Lawwell, this isn’t about what is right for the club, but what is right for Peter Lawwell.

  14. Its not too latte to change the team management, it is an equal risk to leave them in charge, and Lawwell should follow them to UEFA or the SFA wherever is his next gig in football.

    Ron Bacardi,

It’s a loose connection but it used to sit idly by in the chasm that is my brain, not totally convinced by it but it’s not just idling now.

We should be out of site of sevco, so far out of site they would’ve folded but we continually “mess it up” for reasons we never seek to rectify, it’s almost like it’s deliberate (though it’s not). It’s like our strategy is keeping them in the rear view mirror rather than lapping them.

  18. Q: What do you get when you cross a chaotic team selection with a manager who doesn’t have a clue?

A: You get what you deserve.

Replace him. Sell those with illusions of grandeur and get a new man in who can see what we all can see in terms of the players.

In my opinion, your post is ignorant in every way possible.

    You are miles off

  20. I often used the analogy of the manager as chef and the players as ingredients.

A good chef can produce a decent meal with few ordinary ingredients.

However you can not improve a poor chef just by giving him better ,more expensive, ingredients.

    Last night was another low.

Neil Lennon sat like a grumpy chef who put random ingredients on to the table and expected the cake to bake itself.

    Time to go Neil.

  21. Taurangabhoy

I agree we have no god-given right to win every game. But we also shouldn’t expect to go out in qualifiers every year to teams with a fraction of our budget too.

These games DO matter. This defeat could be the difference between keeping Eddie or not. It affects who we can attract/afford. Most foreign players who come mention the chance of playing in the Champions League. If we can’t offer them that, what are we offering?

I also agree that 10 is priority but it isn’t the only thing that matters. To suggest so, says that you don’t mind if we’re pish; don’t mind if we’re humiliated in Europe and become a laughing stock…..as long as we’re slightly better than Rangers.

Look, it’s all about opinions and yours is as valid as anyone else’s but I’ll have to disagree with you on this one.

  22. glendalystonsils on

Frimpong in for Forrest . A brave , positive , pacy winger going past opponents and creating havoc in defences.

Not a ponderous fearty who turns back , cuts inside , passes sideways or backwards and almost never takes a man on.

    That would be a start.

  25. Remember the fiasco over at Hamden a few yrs ago we lost to Ross County,Lennon was the coach then,he should have been sacked then,,he walked away from us just like he did lately while at Hibs,he is not a good coach ,think about his time at Bolton ,and I can’t believe that plenty of supporters are still in his camp,Like Lawell this propaganda he is one of us the Celtic Supporters fall for that, not me he had his time ,so he has to go ,

    ______

This is it in a nutshell.

I wouldn’t be pushing Lennon’s ejector seat just yet. You have to see who’s available and willing. You have to gauge his relationship with the players.

As things stand, I’d be wary of making a massive decision and causing upheaval. It’s so late in the day to do that.

But if the dressing room turn on him after throwing them under the bus I’d say why not.

  27. I rarely post. Today i feel i must.

Last night’s opposition were not great. Yet we all had pre match fears. Going out of the CL to teams of this calibre happens too often. And here we are again. In our now customary post match angst.

I was never keen on Neil as manager. I felt he got lucky first time round and it should have stayed that way.

The man has shown time and again he does not have the tactical nous for a club of Celtic’s stature and history. Rarely has a plan B and sticks stubbornly to his game plan when it is gong awry. Till very late. Scarily late. Playing with no striker at Home to the likes of last nights opponents (no disrespect intended) was as baffling as it was nuts.

Throwing players under the bus in his interview is a sign of desperation and an indication he does not have the savvy to get us out of it.

Celtic are run as a spreadsheet and divident conveyor belt for shareholders. Until that changes we will continue to have sub standard managers and similar players. Any players that show football prowess will be shipped out for a balance sheet bonus. And replaced by inferiority.

The league has yet to start. 10 in a row is the holy grail this season. We need to get a good manager in now. I believe a good manager can invigorate under performers.

Had we he likes of Chris Hughton then I am convinced we would be miles better with the personnel we have now.

I am not anti Neil. He just has obvious limitations . Other mediocre managers can tactically nullify and outfox him. And he is temperamentally volatile.

Lawell is untouchable as his strategy brings in the lucre. So a change of manager is the only alternative..

Bottom line is Neil has been sussed. By opposing managers and his own players. I dont want that to sound hatrsh. But he has clearly lost the dressing room.

  28. we should have saved the money and asked Craig Gordon to grow a goatee , our new goalie is not looking the part , maybe he has to settle in or he’s a slow starter maybe we can put him in the same bag as boli boli and julien.

  29. Onenightinlisbon,

There will be plenty more coming along so buckle in. I had the temerity of suggesting I was worried about last night in the runup on the evidence we weren’t fixing the systemic problems in the team.

On the hopeful side, we have some really talented footballers being badly used, with a focus on favourites being shoehorned. Get someone in without the sentiment. Bayern did it and it wouldn’t take long to get into shape.

  30. FRANKTERRY on 27TH AUGUST 2020 9:36 AM

You are assuming the worst case scenario for remaining in the UK and the best case scenario for an independent Scotland.

Scotland’s fiscal deficit this year is £15b, last year it was £13b.

That should be your starting point for trying to imagine what life would be like in an independent Scotland, whether as a member of the EU or not.

  31. Go tell the Spartim on

Think we all know what’s coming next.

PL. won’t be leaving anytime soon, though maybe at the end of the year, only to be replaced with another Irish Raj acolyte.

NFL won’t be leaving either, taking the blame for his selection after the game means nothing, I vividly remember the Ross County shambles in his first stint, didn’t learn from Copenhagen, didn’t learn from Cluj, won’t learn from last night.

Someone will be sold, Ajer hopefully (not that I want him to go but him rather than Odsonne) and we’ll watch the same pitiful scenario in games for the rest of the season.

Can’t fathom why, after it winning us the league, that we haven’t played with 2 up front from the start In any game, that would’ve got Klimala more match sharpness. We’ve got 4 strikers and none of them were fit??????

  32. It was the same faces last year who came on and ripped Lenny and the team to shreds. Cup games are a game of chance not the long haul. We played the whole game in the opposition last third and yet they won with two breakaway goals. Christ we have even had the lawell haters out. I am not any happier that you lot of bed wetters but I will be supporting the hoops and the players who will feel as lost as us today, for the rest of the season. A couple of games ago it was great stuff we are getting players in now we need to get rid of the whole team. Easy to be a manager and a Celtic player. Best supporters my arse. Get a grip. See you when we get another treble and ten in a row.
