I very vocally called out Neil Lennon’s lack of conditioning that night in 2002 (post on it tonight). Went a long way to us losing the tie. I was in a CSC in England and as usual i was put down for slagging a Irish player.
I made many points that season that MON tactics and formation were going to lose us the league due to us letting a cretin of a manger out fox us in OF games.
I loved the UEFA run as much as anyone but could see us losing the league (cups are random)
Half of that CSC agreed we needed to go 4-4-2 vs Huns and in Seville
No-one called for MON to go but we saw his limits. Others saw his place of birth
I did call for him to step back or delegate to his team when his wife got ill In 2004 for their benefit and Celtic’s. Same as in any business (not unusual)
I had to defend myself physically that night and leave the club for a while
It is not personal . If people ,who don’t work in a a profession but claim they are professionals due to high wages , want to be treated as professionals then they need to meet KPIs and behavioural competencies. As such, if they fail they lose the bonuses then they lose the job if they don’t improve
Neil Lennon met his KPI in his temp job to finish the treble
He was then In his probation period. He won the league cup and should get credit for gather league
All great and on we go to success
Now he has a team without vigour , no tactics and apparently don’t want to be there
Was all clear in pre season
What happened?
He is on performance measures at the very least. All very sad
Lawwel should be on the phone to Martin O’Neill first thing in the morning and get Lennon out the door immediately.
In no way whatsoever should we lose 3 knockout ties in 12 months at home to Cluj, Copenhagen and Ferencvaros – losing 9 goals in the process. That there is reason enough to punt him but his post match comments tonight is even more reason.
In losing tonight then I’d think it highly likely Edouard is away. The loss of potential CL money added to the loss of revenue as a result of Covid means we probably have to sell him, which will make getting the 10 even harder.
We cant afford to wait until it may be too late.

The problem is we need to score 4 or 5 with our lack of defensive set up. They could have hit us a couple of times on the break during the fist half. We were set up like amateurs tonight.

To score 4 or 5 I’d suggest you need at least 1 striker….if not 2
It wont happen but if Lennon was sacked we would be back to the drawing board.
Safest pair of hands currently would be the current scotland manager but it is hardly sex appeal.

new low in European football tonight for Celtic, they knew our backline was suspect,a few times in the first half when we were fking about at the back, they had 6 players within 35 yards of our goals, primitive stuff ,and predictable unfortunately.
‘We had enough chances to win the game comfortably…’

………………………..
Seriously we did. It’s fitba. In the first half no shooting boots (yes not striker Neil)
in the second after only one on target first, we scored, we hit the bar, we had an onside goal chalked off and missed a few others. We had enough chances.
They had two shots on target.
We lost
It’s how you react to defeat that marks out winners.
Out of condition corner bhoy Neil is a winner not a loser.
What concerns me is that we appear to be completely suspect against low level organised european 3/4 seed style teams…which is exactly what the team at the other side of the city are.

The two games v Sevco in December , we were Awefull in both. Truely awfull , we only won cup because we had a goalie. This year we don’t
We changed after Xmas. Went with two up front and rest was history
Anyway imagine how shitty it would be playing champions league games at an empty or 20% full celtic park?.
I’m clutching at straws I know but it would be shitty.

We certainly did improve after Christmas but that was going 3-5-2 with a fit Griff. However, let’s not ignore the fact that Rangers absolutely fell off the cliff in the New Year.
It’d be a dangerous strategy to assume they’ll do that again this season.
Defeats are always a concern and if you see a pattern even more so.
Gerrard has built a Brendan style possession based team that has more quality than last year and if that was not a concern before then peeps were sleeping,
Their first 11 can match us but we have greater (by far) depth in squad.
I share many other concerns but this is so early in the season and there’s obviously going to be lots more ins and outs (if we take Neil at his word) before even more ups and downs. Hopefully more ups than downs.
But against a backdrop of being dumped out of the champions league at the second qualifying round by a hungarian team at celtic park with a fraction of our budget?…….hmmm
Hardly the stuff of folklore is it.
That’s why tonights result and performance has kind of ruined everything for me.
I need some form of respectability in europe from celtic before I declare our players club legends or history makers.
I don’t expect us to to be winning European trophies of course.
But taking part would be nice now and then.
If I had my way I would not pay that useless mob tonight their wages and I include the manager in that.
A few wins over St Johnstone and Motherwell will not change that.

So who are the players that ‘don’t want to be here’????….apart from a couple of obvious ones that rarely play these days I am really struggling.
Any guesses?
I’ll guess at Ajer, Christie, Dembele and possibly Julliene. I don’t think this league suits him
To be fair Football without Fans is Nothing
At the moment – I think we would be better off out of europe like 2005. Focus on the league and the rebuild and come back stronger.
We reached the CL last 16 twice in the two years after Artmedia Bratislava.
P67 can lament the loss of income but having millions to get pumped out like tonight makes no difference to me as a supporter.
All eyes now on the league – they’ll fancy their chances after that amateur showing tonight.

Ajer…would explain his recent benching.
Christie… has showed nothing but 100% effort every time Ive watched him this season.
Dembele …can do what he likes really .Not really a factor in the team yet and if he wants to go, fine
Juliene..has been really poor this season..strangely poor so perhaps.
I hope to god we are not talking about French Eddy and tonights ‘injury’ was not of the ‘grifiths calf strain’ type.

I agree..to dismiss them after watching us tonight would be utter madness.
The superiority complex some of us have had is about to come crashing down.
Skin of our teeth or skate of our pants is a far more likely route to 10 in a row this year.
We simply are not that good anymore…but thankfully for us neither are they still.

Unfortunately that is Peter lawells strategy
We have had virtually no competition domestically
But in Europe failed again and again against teams on a fraction of our income
Sevco just have to get it right one season

It wasn’t the team. Was the manager and his setup.
Last week Neil said this “ It’s given us a bit of breathing space but I’m happy with the squad.”
Why changed in a week?
If he hadn’t lost the dressing room he most likely has now.
