How is a team meant to play for a man that his sold his country out?

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Dear God – such crap. Big Jock was a Freemason – do I care? Did the Lisbon Lions care? Give us a break and join the real world.

If you’re not panicking at the way the world is going there’s something wrong with you :-)

  3. The club should not be throwing more money at Lennon to buy players. he clearly is not getting much out of the ones , (expensive ones at that), that he has.

We need a new manager fast and then back him to get the players he needs.

Players are either no longer playing for the manager or else the manager is tactically inept and can not set up his team to beat an opponent with less than one tenth of Celtic’s resource. On a one off game this can happen , but this is now a regular occurrence rather than a one off.

Club needs to take action now before 10IAR becomes a bridge too far.

  4. Still stunned at last night’s outcome, not convinced that dumping the manager at this stage would be sensible…then again it’s only August…I doubt Martin O’Neill would be interested and I don’t think Gordon Strachan would either, I get the impression he feels he’s had his time at Celtic, but if we were looking for a replacement, Eddie Howe is still a free agent. I have no idea if that would be a good idea but I thought he had something about him.

Personally I’d like to win the 10 with Lennon and see root and branch change next summer – coaching staff, manager, CEO…

    As I say, still stunned.

Why are you concerning yourself with a Garrison Sport?

What sort of an Irish Patriot would do such a thing?

  6. Problem is I don’t think NL can motivate the players he has, not changing this now is a huge risk

  7. I have “slept” on that game last night. Woke to hear that our manager claimed that Klimala was not match fit. Well, who is to blame for that? As for his suggestion that some players don’t want to be here: if I were Ntcham, I think I would feel the same.

Imo, our manager has to take a major share of the blame for that result. He picked the wrong team and chose the wrong tactics (if there were any).

  8. @HOT SMOKED on 27TH AUGUST 2020 7:49 AM

Is that supposed to suggest that Neil made the right choice and it’s all the players’ fault again?

Next to every posters was aghast last night when that team selection came out. It was another McG at left back.

Complete lack of organisation, too; but its clear by now that Lenny can’t organise or at least doesn’t care to do so.

Add into that a £3.5m signing who sat on the bench all night, playing a 35 year old 3 games a week- great idea and, to top it off, the Stevie G special of throwing everyone under the bus at the end of the game. Excellent.

Posters have been getting it on the neck for recognising how poor we have been from preseason through to DU; still, some people were crowing about tanking Accies at home and a semi pro Icelandic team, as if that’s an achievement.

Again, Celtic do their utmost to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

P.s. out in 2nd round. Last time that happened was Artmedia. We were 2nd highest favourites at the bookes to win last night. Spin it any way you want.

  9. SID on 27TH AUGUST 2020 7:58 AM

“We played without a striker last night because Ajeti was on the beach 2 weeks ago, we initially had a medical booked for the 22nd of July.”

“Every deal is a saga, no other clubs have problems like we do in closing out deals.”

    _________

He doesn’t escape blame but this isn’t the point really. Every club has transfer deals that rumble on for ages. It’s mad to me people only think this happens at Celtic.

Ajeti has barely played over the past 12 months and is on the EPL timetable. He’s a month behind the rest. That happens when signing new players.

The point is, we have Afolabi, Griffiths and Klimala on the books. Lennon signed them both. He had options but CHOSE to go with no striker.

“Lawwell picked Neil, he also picked Deila, we’re 0 for 4 in Lawwell choices for CL qualifications.”

He has some responsibility for that. But it’s one shared with the rest of the board. Ultimately Desmond chooses the coach.

The coach completely mismanaged what he had to work with. We cannot manage a multimillion asset in Leigh Griffiths. We don’t trust a multimillion asset in Klimala to play despite being our only option.

    This won`t be popular:

    70% possession;

    9 on target to 3.

Maybe the manager should have tried to play a striker. Heard they specialize in finishing off chances.

You maybe want to consider what economic conditions the EU would impose on an independent Scotland to allow entry, given the fiscal deficit.

The idea that EU membership would ease the financial hardships of independence is comforting, but I’m afraid is fantasy.

  12. 78 minutes to make a change as well. Neil Lennon was rubbernecking while we were going out of Europe.

No lessons learned from Cluj or Copenhagen.

The fact that smaller, traditionally less wealthy, nations have done very well in the EU is a fact. Scotland in the UK is like Celtic in Scotland. We’d do much better in a bigger league…..though I’ll grant you, after last night, I’m starting to doubt the latter!!

Yeah, possibly and there are a hundred other ways that an Indy Scotland could lead to disaster. I don’t deny any of that. However, there is a chance that things might get better and we can have some sort of functioning democracy – which i just can’t see now even as a slim possibility as part of the UK.

Brexit has done it for me. I feel sorry for all the good people down in England who could see it for what it was but millions of people voted to sell out their kids and screw the NHS. There is no arguing with that level of stupidity, only reality will teach them the lesson they need to learn and by then it will be too late.

  19. Kind of feel bad for our defenders.

The second goal we get caught out. But that’s partially because we are chasing the game so desperately.

If we actually score some goals we would allow our defence some breathing room. Instead, we expect our fullbacks to create chances and defend speedy counters.

The 0 for 4 stat doesn’t make any sense of course. Because we qualified for the CL under Lennon in his first stint, Strachan and of course Rodgers.

Desmond has had the final say on every coach since O’Neill.

  22. That doesn’t excuse Lawwell by the way, he shares collective blame for the likes of Mowbray with the rest of the board.

    Theoriginalsadiesbhoy,

    is it deflecting?

I call it memory, there’s a thing called perspective, try it.

The team got beat in Europe and reading your stuff its like its the first time it ever happened, even if it did happen before, you wont admit it did but if it did, there has never been a more embarrassing result in Celtic’s history, ffs catch a grip.

    Talk about drama queen ffs.

    ………………….

Of course you are deflecting. It’s today’s Celtic we are interested in. Neil Lennon has had three big chances to take us further in Europe and has failed miserably in games we should have won at home. His team selection is appalling. Playing players out of position. Leaving out strikers and playing someone else in the striker role. He has no idea about tactics. I think you should try to learn a bit about perspective yourself. If you don’t think last night’s game was crucial and won’t have a serious effect on the Club then I would suggest that you are the one who lacks perspective.

“ The team got beat in Europe and reading your stuff its like its the first time it ever happened, even if it did happen before, you wont admit it did but if it did, there has never been a more embarrassing result in Celtic’s history, ffs catch a grip.”

I haven’t a clue what your talking about. Of course we have been beaten before. Loads of posters on here rightly complained after our exit against Cluj and Copenhagen. I’m totally baffled by what you’re rattling on about above.

I’ll ignore your insult at the end.

  24. HOTSMOKED 7.49; nothing wrong with an attempt at perspective, yet close shots don’t put a rabbit in the pot.

Neil’s ire was understandable tho misplaced. He was right about the bunched-up schoolkid, collective brain-fart, ball-watching defending. Sweet strike as it was, Barkas didn’t get any nearer to it than Bainy would have.

Barkas looks less comfy with ball at his feet too. I like big Tam but his momentary decision making was pish.

We win as a club and lose as one too, yet this flustercluck is all about squad recruitment and management.

I did’t think any player had a lack of application; lack of genius, mettle and luck mibby. KTF

Large parts of England were swayed by populist nationalism, hence Brexit.

We need less populist nationalism, not more.

  26. Go tell the Spartim on

It’s abundantly clear that our strategy for qualifying for the CL is left to chance, why else are we annually underprepared, not match fit, no new players integrated early.

People are culpable for that strategy though he’ll not be giving a …. the more this continues the more I’m moving towards Canaan’s view about us being complicit in perpetuating the “old firm” brand.

Last night is down to no strategy and piss poor team selection, tactics and waiting too long to make substitutions and not for the first time either.

Somethings gotta change but it won’t and it’ll be too little too late

Shambles was the nicest word I could call this

  27. Lennon and Lawwell have blown it big time. Edouard will now be sold as will one of least Ntcham and Ajer. This season will be a slog, a lack of authority and leadership has resulted in the likes of Boli and Griffiths undermining team performance. Other players are watching this and planning their way out. Peter must take ultimate responsibility. He went out on a limb for Neil Lennon and it’s not worked.

  28. SPARTIM,

How exactly does this display our complicity to perpetuate the ‘old firm’ brand ?

  29. Lenny can talk all day about how our £8million worth of strikers on the bench were not fit but I simply don’t accept that.

He played Christie as a lone striker so he could play ntcham in the middle. Last year he moved CalMac to LB to squeeze Ntcham in the team too.

His idea of getting ‘technicians’ on the pitch is just shocking. I’m not sure Neil Lennon can recover from last night. I hope he can but the decision to play Christie upfront leaves you questioning his basic managerial skill set.

  30. I’d also say the fallout from Lenny’s starting 11 is not hindsight. Celtic fans were on media platforms and whatsapp groups everywhere questioning what he was doing when the team came out.

  31. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

There are some who believe there’s a large degree of randomness/luck associated with playing knockout football at this time of year.

I used to have some sympathy with this notion, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s too much of a coincidence Celtic are on the wrong side of results last night for it to be random.

Something is way wrong with our approach, planning and strategy.

  32. We’re talking about the team / manager performance in Europe.

However, my greater fear, is how we will perform domestically this season.

Unfit strikers will be unfit, regardless of the oppositions accent.

We’ve hardly started off brilliantly. 1 late goal at Tannadice, welcome as it was.

I still can’t see our formation, tactics or strategic signing policy. New signings seem to have 1 of 4 fates ahead. Loaned out, benched, played or posted missing then sold. Alas, not enough are moving into ‘play’.

Discipline seems to be an issue and i would have hoped the Boli saga would have been resolved by now.

    It’s all rather pish sadly

  33. Mistakes will need to be reviewed in the cold light of day. Just looking at the obvious ones will suffice for now.

The “no-striker” strategy needs struck out first, secondly Neil should be minded to keep more of his counsel regarding players he’s put out on the pitch – to himself.

These are costly mistakes and the ramifications will only be magnified by a gleeful scoddish press.

Wholesale changes now would likely fail to achieve the Holy Grail of 10, but when the number one objective is in jeopardy all solutions should be considered.

    HH.

  34. garygillespieshamstring on

Absolutely gutted by last night’s result. However I did think we played well enough to win the game with failure to take chances combined with two defensive howlers costing us the tie.

I could have moved on from that and my thoughts of another poor team selection, however NL’s post match comments were the last straw for me.

Even if he does feel that way about players, it should not have been said in public.

I fear his outburst will have done untold damage to our season.

  35. Surprise surprise if Celtic sell a striker , no name given, they will consider a move for someone at Atletico Madrid, Sky is the source no doubt leaked like our team sheets.

  36. The Eddy thing is obvious…..so too is the converse and result. Quality in the team at the sharp end and back door is a fundamental requirement in ensuring a comfortable 10 is secured.

If we entertain the notion that liquidating an asset to offset operational stupidity is appropriate this season then I shudder to think of the consequences.

    We’ve gambled enough with History.

    Cards on the table Celtic.
