  1. SFTB,

He’s a highly paid professional acting unprofessionally. He failed abysmally last night and in return more much-needed revenue was lost. Don’t know many professions that would continue tolerating that same mistake.

Nobody is advocating witchhunt but he should go. He’ll be highly rewarded in the process and both parties will keep schtum on the details, as it should be. I don’t necessarily get this sentiment. Not many shared it with Ronny D when we knew he was out of his depth.

  2. RC

I remember when Johnny Gould was one of the moles in our dressing room (don’t think he was the only one).

I hated it then but, with the spread of social media, it is almost impossible to suppress now. We all like ot get a wee “heads up” and feel that we are “in the know”, so we are part of the circus that feeds this problem.

    I agree 100%

Arrogant blinkered stupidity is actually an unforgivable act.

Playing without a goalkeeper last night would have been no less damaging than playing without a striker through choice.[not injury].

I do not see a way back ‘long term’ for Lenny after that when you add on the shit storm against the players rant in the post match.

‘Short term’ he might get us going again domestically and we might win 10 in a row but mainly because the opposition would have to be as poor as the generally have been.

If the opposition raise their level then we could be in serious trouble.

  4. SFTB

Noted that you’re not necessarily advocating it. Just thought it worth me clarifying it’s not a preferred option.

The ‘play with no strikers’ cunning ploy needs to be binned. Especially at home. Especially in a must win game. Especially against a team I’ve barely heard of.

Think most are in agreement re the set up last night.

  5. I agree SFTB Lenny deserves the utmost respect for what he has done for us,

He obviously deserves criticism for last night in particular but it needs to stay within bounds.

I an both worried about him & for him, there are things I might say in private or in a confined group but would not put on the blog,

The MSM & the Huns read these pages & thy are lapping it up right now.

We have had it good for 9 years & if this season marks the end of this era so be it.

I unlike our host never thought it would just go on and on.

If it is over then I’ll remember the last 9 years with unbridled joy & look forward to starting a new successful era.

However there is a small word in there, that makes one hell of a difference,

    The word is IF,

  6. RC

    Spit it out man!

    What’s the coughing about?

We conceded 19 goals in 30 league matches

We conceded 1,1, and 0 in our 3 home Group ties and only 1 goal in 2 of our away group ties.

The 2:0 loss in Cluj was after we had the Group sown up.

    I stand by the assertion

  7. If Ferencvaros lose in the next round (probably) we could draw them in the Europe League playoff….

    You gotta smile…:)

  8. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 27TH AUGUST 2020 11:48 AM

Off the top of my head..the answer to the puzzle of good european clean sheet records last season after a certain stage was surely………………….Fraser Forster

  9. NFL has stated that he had no real interest in”shape” and seems to be similarly inclined with “tactics”.

It seems to me that we are in a situation where in 2020 Celtic are being managed by the ghost of Brian Clough! He, of course, shaped MONs thinking and he in turn has shaped NFLs.

Things need to change, and quickly. Succession planning must start NOW for next season.

Oh, and SFTB: we were 1/8 last night – so keep your money in your pocket :-)

  10. Didn’t see the game and followed it on here – I did post that we’d probably put on a striker after 80 mins – thought I was jesting – unfortunately wasn’t far off.

Think Neil is suffering from an acute case of arrogance.

  11. Spit it out man!

it was all about the quality of the opposition in the SPL nothing to do with the our defensive quality.

  12. Big Wavy

I f there is unprofessionalism in Lenny’s behaviour, then I agree he should go.

But losing Euro matches is not, per se, unprofesssional, and most industries do not sack their managers everytime they fail to win a contract or keep a customer.

Football is uniquely stupid in its approach to management in that , since the 80’s it has started to sack managers at an alarming rate, unseen in any other industry.

Some clubs even have 3 or 4 managers over the course of a single trading session. The reasoning involved in sacking managers rarely involves judgement on their professionalism, effort or competence. It is usually involves the same reasoning that lies behind human sacrifice or Stalinist denunciation i.e. it is trying to keep the vengeful mob off our back.

    Corkcelt,

I appreciate you keeping details of what you heard off the blog. If the stuff you heard is reliable then it will be known to the power brokers at CP too and they can judge when and how it is appropriate to take action.

I had xome concerns that this job would take a toll on Neil, as it did before, when he was a lightning rod for every bigot across our divide. Because of the suffering he has had in trying to fulfill our expectations, I expect most of our support to see him depart, whenever he does, with dignity and gratitude.

Nobody gets a job for life anymore but Neil deserves, at least, that.

  13. Sydneytim, most businesses and by most I mean an average are looking at 30-40% income wiped out from Covid, most I know have reduced staffing and reduced pay. Whats more there is no end in sight, none, to spend all of your cash reserves now would be insane. Celtic will have bled a significant amount of cash, with no immediate signs of the bleeding stopping. They spent more than I thought, but your numbers are way way out.

  14. ulysses mcghee - a demographic of one on

Sometimes I wish we’d just buy exactly what we need – especially in defence.

Like – if we need a hammer then go and buy a hammer. Not a Hammer/Screwdriver/Drill that is neither the sum of its parts or excels in each.

    Duffy – a supposedly no-nonsense defender (With some goals) – he’s a hammer, we need a hammer – buy a hammer.

  15. TAURANGABHOY on 27TH AUGUST 2020 9:55 AM

Same as it ever was. Panty wetter and towel throwers at the beginning of the season. Get a life.

They had two shots and scored both. El named at fault but where was his back up. We wasted too many chances, not enough games or that edge we need. Game over that’s football. No team has a god given right to win every game.

Couldn’t give a toss about Europe this year, unless we are joining it as a free country. The only important thing is getting to the ten over the whole season. We have the squad to do it and Neil Francis Lennon is the Mhan to win the ten.

All the haters get the fuck. Go support Man City.

    Hail Hail

    Taurangabhoy

    “………………………..

Who the hell do you think you are? Take your own advice.

  16. Our defence in the Europa last season was generally just as bad as last night.

The difference was of course that we had a genuine top notch goalkeeper through the loan system who was not our player.

That same keeper almost single-handed won us a cup final when we got battered by our bitter rivals.

Credit to Lennon…he signed the boy.He spotted the chance to get him and took it.

However we now live in life after having a goalkeeper who does incredible things and turns defeats into victories.

Our new goalie might be a good signing.I have not given up on him in the slightest.

But big Fraser in goal last night and we progress…FACT

  17. MARKIEBHOY on 27TH AUGUST 2020 11:31 AM

    Points which concerned me were-

Bolingoli. Lennon said ” I don’t know why he did it and I don’t want to know.”

He is your employee and has broken the law and threatened the lives of a lot

of people and you don’t want to know – weak.

    ###

Or maybe he didn’t want to know Bongoli’s reason because it would have been irrelevant and he wasn’t going to be fobbed off by a load of exculpatory bullshit.

Which would indicate strength, not weakness.

    Wouldn’t it?

  18. FF was a good keeper for us but he was not a one man defence.

I also remember him getting lobbed from close in last year in Europe. We can explain it away if we like to fit our preconceptions but Neil is a “donosaur” every time we drop points or lose matches. He gets no credit from us for winning leagues or last 16 CL or being Europa Group winners (after 5 matches).

    Just looking for some ballance.

Maybe we are still hurting too much to have reached that stage

Last night was truly a sore one.

One thing I am glad of is that few of us, and especially not Neil, are making the excuse that we lost because of the linesman.

It was a bad and damaging decision but it is not the true reason we lost

  19. 67 European Cup Winners on

Last night is NOT the issue

Bear with me on my little story:

2 boys in the jungle being chased by a lion

1 first boy stops, takes a pair of trainers from his backpack

The second boy says, wearing trainers won’t help you outrun a lion

The first boy says I”m not trying to outrun the lion – I’m trying to outrun you

The moral of the story Celtic are the first boy the Huns are the second boy

IMHO – I just feel our ambition is to stay ahead of them

If they are shite we just need to be a bit better than shite

When we should be aiming higher much higher

Timaloy29 Were you part of the discussion last ? Battered bunnet , Auldheid etc

It was a given that we had 39.5 million Before we sold KT. KT added 25m to that

Are you saying we lost over 30m last season ??

We started with 39.5m. Then season tickets came in

    Where was the 30m + loss ??

You making it up as you go along

    ________

There’s only one person making up numbers. The true financial position will only be known when we produce our audited accounts.

You are not aware of all costs and income. You are not even aware of the payment breakdown of the Tierney deal.

You are writing company accounts on the back of a fag packet and citing it as fact.

  21. LAZYDYNAMITE on 27TH AUGUST 2020 12:09 PM

I said last season that the most important thing was to keep FF. Didn’t happen, and we are where we are.

Another player who might well have made a difference last night was Tom Rogic.

  22. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 27TH AUGUST 2020 12:12 PM

    I do not agree.

At times Fraser Forster WAS a one man defence.

  23. BIG WAVY on 27TH AUGUST 2020 11:51 AM

If Ferencvaros lose in the next round (probably) we could draw them in the Europe League playoff….

    ________

I’d take it. They aren’t good.

  24. ERNIE LYNCH

Fully agree about FF. I personally think he might have saved both last night – especially the second.

However, he didn’t want to stay. Nothing we could do about that. The board gave Lennon £5m to buy a replacement which is big money for a goalkeeper in our environment.

We might have a good keeper on our hands or we might not but if we don’t, it won’t be through lack of trying or ambition.

  25. SFTB,

The exasperation comes from a repeated movie. You’re right, and I’m too guilty of it today on balance, but equally the inability to learn from the poor systems, bizarre line-ups, that gung-ho nonsense that every average manager plays against us knows.

I expect our next euro home match to be a repeat. Not seen evidence of a change.

Lennyball is gung-ho football. Works because the SPFL is crap but not in Europe.

Only Celtic can stop 10IAR we said. This one is on us.

  26. Lazy D

Rc agrees with your opinion but it is still not a FACT

    Not even an Internet FACT

I doubt FF saves that first strike and the second one was a nice clip into the corner from an acute angle. Barkas had covered his near post so there is always a bit of room at the far post. He might have got a lucky block from his outreached hand or foot but it went between his legs. I can show you footage of FF conceding very similar goals.

Barkas was guilty of some nervous clearances last night but he was not responsible for our defeat.

  27. CORKCELT and many others ,What has Lennon done ,He is a bad Manager his tactics are terrible,he always save his bacon by saying he doesn’t trust some off his players ,well you know what after last nights debacle ,he certainly has lost the trust from quite a few of his players,There is only one outcome before thing get really worse and believe they will he should be man en to resign,ASAP.
