We start training and we’re told Griff is overweight. There is a massive scandal and he is sent to Coventry.

We’re also told Klimala has been working hard, bulked up over lockdown and is desperate to show his qualities.

To me, that would suggest Klimala is back up to Odsonne.

So give him decent game time in case Odsonne gets injured so he can lead the line………

Sounds a bit too simple doesn’t it?

  2. These Conspiracy theories about weakening the team to preserve the Old Firm Brand is total & utter shite.

We were supposed to throw the League last year as well/ apparently.

Secondly lack if Investment was not the cause of last night’s defeat, how many multiples of Investment do you need over your opponent to ensure victory,

In one sense we were unlucky last night,, obviously the loss of Eddie was the main reason we lost but we had a good goal chalked off, hit the bar had the Lion’s share of possession , had a number of good scoring opportunities, they had 2 chances & scored both.

However none of that in any way excuses this defeat, Lenny made the wrong team selection again & didn’t change it until we were in deep shit.

I am not absolving the suits from blame either, it seems to take an age for us to get deals over the line & players are arriving needing weeks to get up to speed.

I am angry & totally pissed off this morning and fine if punters get relief bu pouring endless vitriol on the page, fill ye’re boots but keep it real.

Lenny won’t be sacked & he won’t resign, there will be sales & we will get players in, whether we will be stronger or weaker none of us know.

A massive kick in the baws last night after an inauspicious start to the League has brought us all down to earth but the reality is the Season is just starting.

We were never going to win the Champion’s League, progress there was all about securing money, So we still have everything to play for,

Am I worried? Damn right I am.

Have I given up hope, no bloody way.

The Management & team have a huge job on their hands, empty stadiums add to the funereal atmosphere but we can and in my opinion will recover & clinch the 10 in a row.

Then I believe Pedro, Lenny & Brooney will retire and we will be at the start of a new rebuild & a new era.

  3. While I agree with a lot of the comments regarding NL, would the upheaval of a new manager be more of a risk than sticking with what we have? The fact a new manager is a risk anyway is something worth considering.

We need someone available, would come in now and not disrupt results while stamping his methods and system on a squad of players who aren’t his.

It’s Russian roulette. With so much at stake, can we take this risk or do we let Lennon clear out those he doesn’t want, freshen up the squad and just hope and pray he can get us over the line for 10IAR before taking stock for next season?

  4. TAURANGABHOY

    Are you a Lawwell fanboy?

He appointed Lennon the dinosaur who is out of his depth in the modern game.

All because he wanted a yes man after Rodgers.

We have to get rid of them both.

  5. TAURANGABHOY

Playing in their half and being undone by breakaway goals isn’t hard luck. It’s evidence that they did a professional, away European job on us. And it isn’t just a one-off. AEK, Cluj, Copenhagen, Ferencvaros – all have far smaller budgets than us and have all done a job on us.

What worries me, is the defeats are coming the same way. Having the ball in their half doesn’t win matches if the opposition know we struggle for cutting edge and that our highly suspect defence will always give them a chance on the break.

Celtic Park used to be a fortress where even the biggest teams would struggle. Now we’re being beaten not by second-rate teams but by third or forth rate teams.

A lot of talking Ferencvaros up last night….as with Cluj, I’d be surprised if they ended up in the CL.

  6. CorkCelt

There’s an awful lot missing from your analysis and covered by the word ‘hope’.

Do I hope that Neil has the gumption and humility to learn from the ‘same’ stupid curveball he throws in important matches, to play bizarre systems and out of form players or those who are injured?

I don’t see it. I guess it’s down to how many times you want to see the same movie. I’m sick of it. Last night was totally unnecessary.

ECL qualification means the better quality leaves the club – Eddie, Ollie and Ajer for starters. That has a direct impact on the league campaign.

Those stuck in the 10IAR song haven’t seen that correlation yet.

You are assuming the worst case scenario for remaining in the UK and the best case scenario for an independent Scotland.

    ____

Ha! If my acceptance that an Independent Scotland will be fraught with danger and potential disaster is the best case scenario then I wouldn’t want to see the worst one :-)

You obviously are a more optimistic person than i am re the UK but there is no evidence for this. There is however evidence (currently unfolding in real time) that the UK is on an accelerating death spiral towards a Russian style ‘democracy.’

    I know. ….

We all want the same thing but surely we are allowed to say that things are not going right?

Playing at home against average opponents with no striker….and then to make those divisive comments after the game…

Imagine that had been Rony…..but he wouldn’t have made such comments…

  9. its not the lack of investment but the the players we are investing in , West Ham laughing all the way to the bank desperate to get rid of Ajeti who couldn’t make up his mind so he goes on holiday we had chance of a loan deal but no we sign a player who hasn’t kicked a ball in earnest for nearly a year, well done.

Klimala not fancied so 3.5m down the plug hole , we had a chance to sigh a proven goal scorer at his current level who appears to be wanting to sign but we will not pay the asking price and to think of the investment money wasted on so called quality players, waken up.

  10. ERNIE LYNCH posts non political post.

    Away fur a lie doon!

    Oh, has anyone resigned yet?

  11. ONENIGHTINLISBON

“Imagine that had been Rony…..but he wouldn’t have made such comments…”

No, but Slippy G would’ve and we would be in hysterics on here. Bad man-management in my opinion which can now go one of two ways – get a reaction and go on to bulldoze everything in Scotland or lose the dressing room and we discover, like Rangers when Wim arrived that maybe 10 is just too much for any team.

    Let’s hope it’s the former.

  12. everyone and their granny who watched their previous round saw that the no. 7 & 10 were their danger men but what does Lenny say I watched bits and bobs , very professional looks like you or someone from your staff wasn’t listening or watching.

Last season full season ticket uptake

Reduction of wages with culls to players

    11m from Europa league

    Reduction in match day costs

    New Adidas contract

    Full season ticket uptake again

    _______

Once again, I could list a bunch of things to the contrary that are significant costs.

The truth is, you don’t know the current state of our cashflow. To put a random number on it like £60 million is laughable.

    You are fooling nobody.

  14. jimbob71 & little Miss jimbob on

A few complaining about Broonie. Where is Soro? Is he fit? injured?

He was playing regularly for his previous club so why hasn’t he been seen in and around the first team?

Wasn’t he bought to eventually replace Broony? Ease him in, last 20 mins of games, then 30 mins etc.

It’s the only way to (hopefully) move onto the next page seamlessly.

  15. don’t worry about broonie successor he is playing beside him every game trying to tidy up his mistakes, the only problem is it is to the decrement of the team when CmcG is not playing in a more forward role.

  16. JIMBOB71 & LITTLE MISS JIMBOB

Good point regarding Soro. Similar to Shved, Bayo, Klimala…it’s almost as if these players are signed by someone other than the person picking the team.

Don’t really want to get into conspiracies but BR’s comments on Shved when he signed was alarming. The fact that we’re now signing players that the coach doesn’t seem to rate isn’t a great way to run a football club.

  17. Go tell the Spartim on

    Geebee 1978

The transfer window shuts when October, wed never manage to reshape the team-if we had till next October not at the rate PL moves at.

Corkcelt our strategy is just to be marginally in front of rangers to keep them relevant, we should be out of sight, you know it, I know it, everyone else should know it.

Just exactly what is the use of all that money Cash at Bank

  18. Go tell the Spartim on

You almost feel sorry for Turnbull he won’t get the welcome reception he could’ve got.

Last night is down to a limited coach and average players in key positions, notably in defence.

The responsibility for the above is the football department

    Fill in the blanks yourself

  19. Messi shown up yet? Maybe in quarantine still :)

    Duffy?

    Turnball?

    Hicky?

Which rabbit will be pulled from the hat today?

Lenny’ is limited as a coach. We know that. But the passion, the “thunder”, also seems to be missing. He sat on the bench at Rugby Park, Tannadice and again last night with little to offer. He looks detached. At the moment he can not outthink his opponents, nor can he outfight them.

We know he has struggled with depression. In maturing (his own words), in dialling down the emotional engagement to protect his health, he maybe just doesn’t have the wherewithal anymore to do the job.

  20. The hand of God on

This was the season where it was vitally important to qualify for the Champions league purely for the money. No doubt we would be hammered by the top teams but the money was essential during this pandemic. So many people are losing their jobs and are they going to be able to renew their season cards for next season especially if there are still no fans allowed. Every year it’s the same old story of not being prepared…why ? The manager is without doubt the most important factor at any club he picks the team and comes up with a game plan. Neil has failed and it’s time to replace him with someone who is tactically aware.Stop wasting cash on projects and use it to pay for a proven management team.

  21. GO TELL THE SPARTIM

“our strategy is just to be marginally in front of rangers”

It’s a strategy that won’t last forever. As someone pointed out last night, they only have to get it right once. Last year, their form fell off a cliff. Yes, we improved after Christmas but let’s not pretend their capitulation in the league and cup didn’t help….if just to take the pressure off.

Let’s suppose their form stays steady throughout the campaign. We really need to be at it and right now, I’m not sure we are.

Last night wasn’t a fluke or one-off – our league form has been hinting at this and the possibility of more dropped points all season barring the second-half against Hamilton.

  22. JimBob, Soro was on the bench last night.

Brooney appears slightly at odds with Lenny’s interview.

There are worrying signs of disharmony, Lenny said both Ajeti & Klimala are not match fit.

Whatever about Ajeti. why on earth is Klimala not match fit and if he’s not who’s fault is it.

Are the 2 of them not capable of playing for 45 minutes each. ?

As I say worrying times, Paddy Power has Lenny 1/4 not to see out season but still have us 4/7 to win League.

  23. Timaloy29 Were you part of the discussion last ? Battered bunnet , Auldheid etc

It was a given that we had 39.5 million Before we sold KT. KT added 25m to that

Are you saying we lost over 30m last season ??

We started with 39.5m. Then season tickets came in

    Where was the 30m + loss ??

You making it up as you go along

  24. Ibrox scum don’t need us for their relevancy while they have Scottish media and SKY sports.

  25. I always want and prefer to BACK the Celtic manager no matter what.

Especially when he is a bit of a club legend.

However IF we had lost 3 nil last night by this extremely modest Hungarian team at Celtic park playing with at least one centre forward on the park I would still be backing the manager.

We have many issues at the moment. But to play a champions league qualifier against a very modest team with no strikers on the pitch is the most crazy action I have ever witnessed by a Celtic manager.

I have no idea what he was doing last night.

It almost appears that he was hitting the self destruct button….certainly hitting the ‘gamble’ button for no reason.

The coach of the Hungarian team must have been perplexed ……yet delighted.

Gross miss-managment of the highest degree.

    Sorry Neil Lennon..unforgivable.

  26. I am NOT, of course, advocating a no-striker formation BUT………….

    Top Scorers 2019/20

    Edouard- 28

    Christie-19

    Forrest-16

    McGregor-13

    Griff-11

    Ntcham-8

    Jullien- 7

    Elyanoussi- 7

    Johnston-6

    Scott Brown-5

    Ajer- 4

3 of our top 5 scorers were midfielders. Last night’s starting line up had 79 goals last season amongst them.

Eddy was a miss but he did not make all their goals and removing him and Griff does not prevent us from scoring them.

We messed up in the final third despite a lot of creative play and build up, and while the first goal was down to player lethargy in getting out of our penalty box as thay should have, our misses were often down to over-eagerness- players running ahead of the ball.

In the end, there is no cure to our malaise except winning domestically and doing better in Europe. Immediate sackings will go down really well in Govan.

And, if the next few weeks does see Neil Lennon go then I hope he is treated with much more respect than we gave him last night.

Mind you, we treated Big Jock with a lot of disrespect too after his car crash. His signingss were regularly ridiculed in “They disgraced the Hoops”.

So, if we can do it to Jock, I guess Neil is fair game for some.

But, at the risk of being called an Uber-Celt; it’s just not for me.

  27. I have no idea what he was doing last night.

Lenny didn’t have any idea what he was doing last night.

  28. SFTB, I take your point re goals from midfield.

However, the shape of the team matters. Having a striker holding the ball up, pulling centre half out of position or whatever allows space for midfielders to come through on goal.

Petrov was an excellent example, though i seem to remember he had some pretty nifty players ahead of him!

Yes, midfielders can and do score. Though often as part of a more traditional formation.

  29. Points which concerned me were-

Bolingoli. Lennon said ” I don’t know why he did it and I don’t want to know.”

He is your employee and has broken the law and threatened the lives of a lot

of people and you don’t want to know – weak. He is still at the club and nothing

appears to have happened – really weak.

A lot of us said after the Hamilton game that we were concerned with the set-up

as it gave a relatively poor side several scoring chances.

It was repeated against Kilmarnock and United.

Lennon was smug after the United game telling the fans to trust the team.- really worrying.

As soon as the rumour was out that OE was not fit everyone wondered what he was

going to do. I think it is fair to say that a high percentage on here are unhappy only

playing one striker. Last night he plays no striker and accuses a player who has been

with us for six months of not being fit – his fitness is the managers responsibility.

That decision has gone beyond disapproval and into plain stupid.

I love Celtic like a member of my family and back them through everything apart

    from arrogant blinkered stupidity.

  30. Just for confirmation – running doesn’t dislodge the result from one’s brain.

And I’m pretty sure I’m on track to beat the world record of most sighs in a day.

    Sigh…

  31. Undone by two preventable goals, the keeper didn’t do very well for either. However, it’s a game we should still have won, unlucky to have hit the woodwork and to have a good goal disallowed wrongly for offside. None of us can understand the team selection, two strikers on the bench who cannot be trusted to play, one of whom has been in the squad for months, he must be really impressive in training, not.

Answers must be found quickly, we have a league to win.

    Hail Hail.

  32. Apparently 2 of the 10 teams dropping into the Europa will get a bye

I think we have more than that to worry about , get pest control involved and get rid of the mole.

  33. Uncle Jimmy

As I said, I was not advocating it. I can understand Neil’s reasoning that a dtermined and experienced Ryan Christie was a better bet then Ajeti (behind in his match fitness) and Klimala (a young player trying to earn a place in this company) and also a bettr bet than Lewis Morgan or Mikey Johnston to make a success of this, as he is a goal scorer, but………………………

In the end it did not work or it did not work well enough. One goal was scant return for our efforts so we can all imagine that, if only Eddy or Ajeti or Klimala had been on, we’d have scored more. No way of really knowing but it’s a legitimate surmise.

In the end, if we ship more than one goal at CP, we are in danger of disasters.

Last year, we sorted our defence domestically and at Europa Group Stage but it was found wanting at qualifying stages and again at post-Group stage.
