I think we have a good squad

I agree we need centre half’s (been an issue for 4 years) but not necessarily the baby eating kind . Shane Duffy would not have made a diff tonight

    It’s coaching we need

    My view of perf:

Barkas , did no wrong but had to deal with crazy pass backs

Elhamed – played to tactics both halfs but had a meltdown at second goal.

Julien – wasn’t interested with engaging with players. Shat it a bit but had a go later on

Ajer _ desperate to break out of his shackles . Should have browns job

Taylor – did OK but doesn’t understand geometry and physics of a football in terms of crossing

    Brown _ shite

McGregor – in the shovelling Brown shite role , still shite. He wants to leave

Christie – like a puppy who hasn’t hit 2 years. Got a spawny goal

Forrest – got crosses in but generally a bit off

MOI – had loads of skill and effort, Unlucky that the striker chancdes fell to him cos no striker

Ntcham – class always and showed load of skill. Great perf

  2. Lazy never realised you were being ignored.

I’ve been an occasional poster but been in from the start. WGS, Kojo Happy Clappers, people like Janes Forrest leaving, Lowell, haters and so it goes on.

Always appreciate your well thought out thoughts even if I don’t agree with some.

Thems and their fans were very complacent after they won nine and equalled our record. They went bust chasing the holy grail which was their own stupidity and arrogance. They were hoist on their own petard as the saying goes. I’ve seen far too much expectancy, arrogance and complacency amongst our own fans in our honest endeavour for the ten to think this season is going to be anything but easy. We don’t help ourselves though.

We aren’t that bad and our squad has depth but needs improving. They aren’t as bad as you make out. Their set up is boring but their European results gave them hope.

This season (hopefully) has a long way to go and its way too early for the many rattles being checked out of prams tonight…not yours I might add.

    HH

  3. Oddly , the players who are criticized for not wanting to be here, actually played well tonight! Ntcham was all over the park and was trying to make thing happen. In fact, he would have benefited from a recognized striker to feed off. Ayer looked good and tried to drive us forward with his runs and was solid defensively.

Christie continued his fine form but would have been much more effective in his normal position.

Broony should have closed the shooter down but he hesitated because of the man behind him.

Lennon is out of order tonight and I’m afraid of the disruption this will cause in the dressing room and with teammates. Drastic situations need drastic action – time to clean out and get the energy back at Celtic!

Usually there is an obvious choice , but I don’t see one other than Stevie Clarke!

  4. If I thought for a minute that Ollie would stay I’d build my team around him. His one touch stuff tonight was beautiful to watch.

  5. We have lost to a weaker team again in Europe. AEK, Cluj, Copenhagen and Ferencvaros may not be much weaker than us but they are weaker. A couple of them got lucky, most notably, Ferencvaros tonight but a couple, noticably Copenhagen, taught us a lesson.

I know our priority is the 10 but Europe is not an irrelevance, even this year. It persuades good players to want to come here and it helps persuade some good ones to stay. We will be badly hurt in terms of recruitment and retention by tonight’s result. BTW- I don’t blame the players for wanting away- nothing wrong with bettering yourselves. Tonight, the want-away players- Ajer & Ntcham were among our best. Even Christie was reasonable out of position. It was the ones who want to stay who let us down mostly.

Bad as this is, I don’t think it will immediately lead to sackings. The 10 is too important to give the Huns the boost of a managerial sacking and player upheaval at this time. But the next month is crucial. A league cannot be lost in September/October but you can handicap yourself to a great extent. In trying to bed in new players, whoever they may be, you risk dropping points as you allow them to find their feet. If dropped points become too regular this month then the chances of Neil suffering for tonight are raised. We are quite capable, as a support , of making the exact opposite criticism that we made tonigh, if Klimala or Ajeti had started and proved to be unsuitable, as Neil suspected they may be at this stage of the season.

I say this with regret. I have no relish for this good man, Neil Lennon, to lose his job. He will be hurting more than most of us tonight.

We have put ourselves behind the 8 ball. An angsty support has just gotten angry as well as anxious. That is not a good combination.

I expect the team to respond with vigour and determinaton against Well- but that will only be the start of this rehabilitation. It is still paramount that we get a safe start to the league- that is still the highest objective- it may take some time to overhaul the lead that Boli gave the huns but we need to be seen to be making inroads.

We now have another imperative to add to that. Whilst we don’t make much money from the Europa and I have no hopes of us winning it, it has now become important to, at least qualify. We may think that being out of Europe helps us concentrate on the league but it also harms us. It adds to the general black mood, it discourages pllayers from joining and it encourages others to go, it heartens the huns if they better us in Europe again, and it dispirits our fans.

So, we have made a rod for our back and we must now thole it. We will get plenty of whacks until we are in a better position.

I want that to be under Neil Lennon. His service demands more respect than he got tonight but he knows that is not going to change the fact that he’s gonnna get the disrespect from hurting fans of our club.

You win and lose as a club, a squad and a team, including the management.

The only formula is to resist the urge to have mass sackings AND to get the results domestically and in the next two qualifying ties (Frankly, I don’t care how we do once or if we get to Group Stage as the 10 is all important).

But some restitution must be made for tonight’s failure.

Fix the problems!- don’t fix the blame!

    Goodnight to Celts everywhere.

  6. Dreadful result .no excuses ,but something I bet a lot of us were none too surprised about . We should have hammered that team tonight . Just as we should have hammered Copenhagen. Just as we should have hammered cluj, anderlecht the list goes on . A few years ago we were taking on the pride of England in man City and facing off well against them , we are a selling club we all know that , we know that any player in there right mind wont turn down the rewards of trebling plus there wages at richer clubs . But its what we do after these stars of ours leave us . We collect huge money ,but don’t do our homework to bring in quality all be it lesser quality , no we bring in players of much lesser quality to those we sell . The team has to go backwards . Every guy on here with a few exception ,know that defence of ours would cost us , it did tonight again . A few seasons ago we had van dyke . Denayer . Boyata

3 better imho than what we have today, Lustik , Tearney to what we have now way below the quality we should be buying . Reading the posts it was obvious that many punters saw the state of our defence, i myself posted months ago my concerns regards that very thing . I read this site for hours every day , sometimes I don’t want the hassle of airing my opinions there are some really hard keyboard posters on here , who won’t hear a word said about the team , lenny or the board i can’t be bothered with the hassle . When i boarded our supporters bus after the cup final , and was told lenny was back , i was disappointed ,now be honest was I alone . we had BR who did the dirty on us ,not the point ,the point being he is a top notch boss on a huge salary to manage the hoops .instead of recruiting applicants with equal management/ coaching skills as Rodgers with the offer of the same remuneration as BR was on , we go for an out and out celt to manage our team but one who is not in the same league as our former manager. 99% of posters on celtic bloggs are die hard celts, Another backward step , as now its too many backward steps at our club . We know we can’t replace 25 mill KT with like , but we can replace with better quality than what we are presently buying . This now falls on who in the name of god is heading up our scouting, who is bringing in these lesser players to our club , who is sanctioning the sale . Dont get me wrong here , I dont want our club to go the way of the huns .but this decline in quality players being brought to our club must stop , its not happening . The huns haven’t got better buying unwanted journeymen , its us who have gone down to there level buying substandard players to replace our star performers. Sort it now even if it means heads must roll , but sort it now before it is too late HH

  7. Celtic PLC have a big decision to make. Our sponsors had conditions built into their contracts concerning European competitions. I want a returns on my shares. NFL can dress it up anyway he likes but he has failed the shareholders.

Our supporters concerns must also be taken into account even though they are too emotional to be rational in such circumstances.

We live in a capitalist world. NFL has failed to deliver and must go.

Der Hun is wriggling their scum throats under our boot of dominance. The racist Nazi Hun filth must be put in their place at all costs.

  8. Tonight reminds me again of all the crap BR had hurled at him about Europe and his signings.

It is one thing to get thumped by the likes of PSG (Bayern did put 8 past Barca, so we are in good company at least), it is another to be beat with regularity by European mediocrity; Cluj, Copenhagen and Ferencvaros, they aren’t even higher end Europa league teams, nevermind CL.

Then the signings. We had to sit and listen to the nonsense that BR was not being backed by the Board because they didn’t trust him after £1m for Hendry or the signing of Kouassi.

Neil must have spent near enough £30m now, with very little to show for it. Boli, Soro, Klimala, Taylor. We are signing certain players for millions just to sit them on the bench for an extended period before punting them out on loan or just poor quality.

Can we blame BR and Congerton again? That was much easier that looking at the running of the club. Still, Pedro’s sinecure remains secure, no doubt.

  9. Calmac @ Broonie position.

Lenny be Ruthless. Ye are being let down

  11. We made approx. £11 million from europe last season – it will be substantially less this season because of closed door games and the hit to match day income & ticket sales.

I want out of the europa – it’s a distraction for a pittance that we could do without this season. In 2005 we used a year out of europe to rebuild and went on to have great success with Strachan.

I think we need that same year out now. We’ve an extremely congested domestic season and that should be our focus.

Ajeti was like an unfit Çiftçi when he came on. And that was only triggered by their second goal. Appalling tactics

NFL represented the artificial statelet of “Northern Ireland” along with Martin O’Neill. Neither of the traitors should have been anywhere near Celtic Park in the first place.

  16. So for some it’s 10 in a row is all that matters, well to me that’s a lot of Celtic supporters letting Lennon and his coaching staff ,along with the Celtic Board of the hook, after last night’s display,so if we continue with Lennon and co ,we can forget the ten,in fact we could win nothing, especially some players will not want to play after being publicly called out by Lennon,no he must take the blame for another Champions League exit,Just say he was sacked or resigned who would replace him.

  17. It would be someone available and experienced.

MON or Strachan are the obvious options.

Sacking managers on the cusp of an international break allows time for the new gaffer to find his feet.

Lenny won’t get chopped in September but there’s an international break again in October – if we’re continuing to struggle at that time then I’d pull the trigger.

Lennon has a massive few weeks ahead of him – starting with his team selection for Sunday.

  18. LENNON IS THE PROBLEM AND NOT THE ANSWER.

Not sure why some people are so blind to bring PL into this discussion.

I have to say that Lennon is not the answer.

If we can consistently be beat by teams with less than one third of our resources then it has nothing to do with spending but the manager and tactics.

I fear for 10IAR, not because we have not spent enough, but because we have a manager that is incapable of fashioning a tactics that will overcome teams with less than 1/10 of our spend.

If we look at last year without green tinted glasses, we greatly outspend them at Ibrox, but if Alfie had not downed tools last December last season champions would have turned out different. The last two games against them, they totally outplayed us, in the cup we were lucky and managed to get the goal. In the match at Celtic park they wiped the floor with us, almost men against boys.

Giving Lennon more money to spend will not solve our problem, as we are already far overspending any team we have met so far so it is a question of being able to put the players together into a team with a good tactics. We have not yet met an AC Milan where we shall start complaining about PL penny pinching.

I say it again, Lennon is not the answer but rather the problem. A manager blaming his team is a good sign of someone that is struggling. [ Who exactly in the opposition team is better than someone in ours. If they had any player that we would rather have in our team then did we not go and buy him for about £250K instead of spending millions in the inferior version we have. Then again if we buy them for £250K plenty here will dismiss them as not being Celtic quality , until they dump us out of Europe]

Are we are fast approaching the same situation Lennon had at Hibs where the problem is always the team’s and not Lennie?

If true that several players wants to go , it begs 2 the questions:

    1. Is there an issue with the manager, where are several players wanting to go? [ Not normal to have several players wanting to go at same time, 1 maybe 2]

    2. Secondly why are these players are still at Celtic and not to shown the door, ( unless of course a significant number of players wants to go which makes it hard to show all of them the door).

In the last case that is what is called players not playing for the manager >>>>>once again the manager becomes the problem and not players.

  19. NFL has admitted what we all know. Every decent player we’ve got wants to be elsewhere. Who wouldnt want to be anywhere else?

If NFL can’t keep his foot on that filthy Hun scums throat he has to go.

How is a team meant to play for a man that his sold his country out?

  22. Good morning cqn from a bewildered Garngad

Very very poor from Lenny last night, in fact total amazement that we played a team with no strikers at home in a 1 off game. What was Lenny trying to achieve? A draw? I’m baffled? A Craig Levein 11.

In order to score goals in and around the box you play the guys that have played there for years.

That’s like me saying right guys go and rewire that house but the sparks stay here, labourers and joiners you go and do it.

Even the formation/set up….what was it???

We did have chances that a striker would have put away.

Very poor again from Lenny rushing down the tunnel not even shaking opposition managers hand or touching elbows. Very poor indeed, then his post match interview WOW.

All the games we have played we have been absoloute dire, aye loads of possession along our own 18 yard line, loads of shots off target, but really poor performances so far.

To be honest can anyone name which team will start against Motherwell??

I also think we have regressed/ went backwards.

But we have a big game on Sunday so these players and coaching staff better get up for that.

    D :)

  23. If Brown and/or Forrest start on Sunday then what little confidence I have left in Lenny will be gone. Hopefully we’ll play with an actual striker though.

  24. Melbourne Mick on

Hello again all you young rebels.

From a very unhappy, disgruntled, pissed off Melbourne.

I know the 10 was our main priority this season but to be shamefully

turfed out of the CL by a very limited team like that is hard to take.

As an unabashed Lenny acolyte even I am mystified by that team

selection, I don’t think any of us would have started without a main

striker or at least brought one on when everybody could see it was

    crying out for one.

More importantly, to me anyway, is his statement that there are players

there who don’t want to be there..whit? why are they anywhere near the

squad never mind in the team?

Put them in the reserves until we can punt them, or is that why he’s

shoehorning them into the team in strange positions because big Pete

    needs to sell them.

And if our strikers can’t be trusted to lead the line, well there’s a multitude

    of questions about that.

There’s no question our team are also missing our 12th man because even

with that team last night our Celtic Park noise would have easily carried us

    through against that lot.

I perceive a general malaise permeating the whole of our club at the moment

and Lenny’s attitude Whether it’s his answering of questions to the media

or slouching in the dugout it’s quite worrying.

All this is only my take on things but I’m away out to the garden with a carton

of the rid biddy, I’m sure I’ll find solace in there somewhere.

And if not then watching my neighbours weans running about with their new

Celtic tops on and a wee belt o the Rebs will reinvigorate me.

    It usually does.

    H.H. Mick

  25. Good morning friends from a very grey, dreary and wet East KIlbride; quite appropriate weather in the circumstances.

  26. My friends in Celtic,

Absolutely gutted. Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

The consequences will be massive. Bluntly, we needed the CL this year.

Downsizing of a massive scale awaits.

    Tactical naivety.

    Management team clueless and inactive.

    No urgency.

    No homework.

    Unsettled players.

The fans are really hurting today. Does this team deserve our magnificent support ?

Where do we go from here ?

HH to all, the journey has hit a dead end. Rerouting required.

  27. Nope, doesn’t feel any better in the morning. Probably worse.

As regards our ‘manager’ not playing a centre forward. That was criminal and he must be held to account for it. No blasting at players, that serves no purpose. He laid out the team, we all were aghast, and the ever so predictable happened. Beggars belief.

For Christie at centre forward, think Calmac at left back.

In a game with so much at stake.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”

Then to behave as he did in the interview is awful. (BTW I didn’t see the interview on my VST programme. I wonder why?)

With that ‘leadership’ I would say I don’t think we need worry about 10IAR.

Lennon and the guy who throws the ball up for defenders to head back at him need to seriously consider their next move.

    Yip, still sick.

Still I have all those huns at work to look forward to.

    Thanks NFL and JK.

  28. Five games into the season and it feels like it’s over already.

Bolingoli, that shite last night, players who don’t want to be here, fannying about in the transfer market, then blasting payers for his mistake.

All of the above point to Lennon having completely lost control of things.

    Very sad.

We need the happy clappers and the snp supporters more than ever today.

  29. Personal attacks on Neil Lennon have no place on a Celtic blog.

    Disgraceful comments.

By all means attack his managerial appitude, but calling him a ” traitor ” etc is low, very low.

As low as any previous comments the huns have made.

How is a team meant to play for a man that his sold his country out?

Oh dear !!!………you sure your on the right website???????

  31. I’ve mentioned before how we appear to have regressed since the 5-1 crushing of the huns in april 2017.

However, out recent rate of descent is worrying. We need to steady the ship urgently. We could find ourselves slipping further behind in the league otherwise.

    How do we do that?

Doing the same is not an option.

    Cool heads and brave decisions.

  32. We spent 3.5 million to bring in Klimala and he doesn’t get off the bench when he’s the only fully fit striker. Incomprehensible.

  33. This won`t be popular:

    70% possession;

    28 shots to 7;

    9 on target to 3.

  34. VALE BHOY on 27TH AUGUST 2020 7:21 AM

I am not an SNP supporter but I do now support an Independent Scotland. England has moved so far to the right that there is no longer any hope for them. It won’t be a NAZI type fascist state that they end up with but one more akin to Putin’s Russia where ‘democracy’ becomes a ritual to keep the ruling party in power.

I have no illusions that an independent Scotland will be perfect (and there will without a shadow of doubt be economic hardship until we join the EU) but there is a t least a chance that Scotland can survive as a working democracy.

On a related note, for any Celtic fans who struggled at the start of the pandemic getting their shopping etc – January is going to be worse due to (what looks like) a no deal Brexit. Make sure you have a few weeks supplies of essential food etc as there is a high probability that there will be shortages and panic buying which will empty the shelves.

  35. How does one of the highest paid CEO escape criticism and blame?

We played without a striker last night because Ajeti was on the beach 2 weeks ago, we initially had a medical booked for the 22nd of July.

Every deal is a saga, no other clubs have problems like we do in closing out deals.

Lawwell picked Neil, he also picked Deila, we’re 0 for 4 in Lawwell choices for CL qualifications.

Surely he must shoulder some of the blame.

  36. Why is klimala unfit, ajeti I can give him a bit of slack as he has just joined, why is klimala unfit he has had over 6 months at the club, why is the situation with Griffiths being allowed to fester away, this is a big day today and I expect the issues to be addressed and a plan to rectify these, get the bad apples the uncommitted out of the club, get a manager and coaching staff to manage and motivate and recruit players who will play for you, this is Celtic we are talking about, it is not or shouldn’t be someone’s steeping stone, if some think the grass is greener go and now.
