  1. Morning

Great to be back a CP last night for first time in what seems like 5 yrs. got move from main stand to upper Jock Stein- great seat right behind the goal and high up to get real good perspective on the play. Still don’t get the need to close majority of upper main stand?

  2. Some of our play last night was so good to watch and many many positives but like many on here I fear we won’t back Ange 100%. A few quality signings will give us a strong 1st team and a bit of depth which we currently do not have.

The runs Kyogo makes are amazing but I think midfielders ain’t seeing them yet and are too quick to go wide – if they work on that and look for the way he pulls away from defenders he will score loads.

My only concern is we are a little small and lightweight- the French CF look exactly what we need – it’s ok to play out from the back but you do need the option to dink it over the press to a forward that can hold in and bring others in to play (like Moussa used to give us) as an alternative – we have to be able to mix it up or it becomes predictable and easy to plan against.

    QUADROPHENIAN on 13TH AUGUST 2021 7:27 AM,

Fair enough bud, but I’m watching the Henke video on YouTube….

We have never gotten by on expectations….

    Luck and hard work….

If we encourage Kyogo and make him one of us, he could be our next Henke and Nakamura.

They’re not all motivated by bigger pound signs.

Key to this, is help the manager help the player enjoy his time with us at CP. Create a team that has a reputation in Europe.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we know who are the only ones who will likely fk this up.

Meanwhile, we have Turkeyboy, inside right, with SFTB tracking him closely, and Burnely78, about to tell us, that as a club we are just Scott also rans……the sainted board can only do so much….shock horror..mm

They should have told us this in 1998….🤔

  4. Definitely a lot to like at the moment. 13 goals in three games is not to be sniffed at.

What’s encouraging me most is the improvement of the players already there – some of them much-maligned. Ralston is a more than worthy member of our squad and the assist from Taylor was excellent.

If I have one small concern, it might be Starfelt. What are others’ opinions of him? So far, he hasn’t entirely convinced and he was very lucky not to give away a penalty yesterday with a rash, unnecessary slide in the box.

Hoping he will settle after a bit of time and once Ange has the defenders in that he wants.

What a night in Paradise! Came home exhausted. I didn’t realise how emotional it was going to be. Great performance and goals. Jablonec are a good team, played good football and created chances. We now have a goalie we can trust. Joe Hart made two magnificent saves.

What dawned on me as the evening progressed is that whether the fans in the ground tonight are mineshafters or happy clappers, they are all Celtic fanatics to a man. What a force! I was in a train carriage on the way home after the game and the fans who sang themselves hoarse can only be described as MENTAL. Oh to be young again!

    Forza Celtic!

  6. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

Sorry for asking I was watching on my computer with no sound and I thought I saw someone running on to the pitch.

  7. GEEBEE1978

I have said the same about Starfelt . Goes to ground too often and looks stiff and cumbersome.

Early days , but needs to improve.

Lets hope Ange isn’t being shafted already , with talk of loan moves.

We still need 3 defenders in now and not loans.

  8. I booked a table at Coias to take a friend for a dinner before the match last night. We arrived and were told to join a queue of people who had all booked tables standing outside, some in the pouring rain. They were clearly heavily overbooked. I was distinctly unimpressed.

Match was magic. All that pent-up energy getting released and a good team performance. Last year you could have gone to make a cup of team confident that you would not miss any action. Now, you dare not blink.

Old friends returned to their seats around me. Everyone was so excited to be back in a full house.

All the younger boys around me seem to have grown 10cm since I last saw them. (No – I haven’t shrunk 10cm)

Bring on next Wednesday but we need to be realistic about the jump in level of the opposition. Jablonec were fit, tidy and hard working but did not have the sharpness or quality to really hurt us especially now that we had a better goalkeeper. That will not be the case next week and loose balls in the penalty area and big gaps through the middle will be punished.

Ange did not go overboard in his post-match comments. He knows there is a lot of work to be done but progress is the similar to the beginnings of the Martin and Brendan’s eras. What a journey we are on.

  9. For me, our main man is our new captain. He is the fulcrum. I was delighted when he was substituted last night. We have to keep him fresh, which must be difficult, as he has had no real rest for about 3 years. I was reminded of the season that wee Bertie was injured: Jock Stein took Charlie Gallagher off after about 60 minutes. We needed Charlie then, just as we need Callum now.

Great great resultlast night. Long may our football bring us joy.

  10. See you in the #UEL play-off round,

    @AZAlkmaar

    !

The Hoops will face the Dutch outfit in the first-leg at Celtic Park – Wednesday 18 August, 7:45pm KO.

  11. Looking forward to the AZ game………….

Anything we get out of Europe is a bonus for me but not a priority this year.

The step up in opposition will help the team gel further and get them used to -playing in more challenging games. The League’s the thing……………

    HH

  12. Bada – agreed, the Club should not be relying on loans for this key part of the team’s spine.

We should put a marker down with the calibre of player chosen. Sure we can have some punts but no messin’ with the basics.

  13. Well done to the Celtic Bhoys last night.

Its not just the Celtic support that are enjoying watching The Celts again, but our PLAYERS also look as though as they are enjoying themselves under Ange. They are all eager to get onto the ball, and are keen to get forward unlike recent years.

Tam Rogic has not played like that for at least TWO Years. The Elegance is there for all to see…and he reminds me often of Trevor Brooking in the late 1970’s and 1980’s….only BETTER …LOL !

KYOGO is a real livewire…the new BUZZBOMB…and he will continue to get the Support on its feet with his runs and trickery. When was the last time that Celtic had a Player who is worth the Admission money alone ….HENRIK /LUBO ?

My Bets were beaten as I took The Celts to win 5-0 and 4-0…but who cares ?

    LOL

We have still to see what James McCarthy will bring to the team, likewise maybe one or two other new signings…but the future is looking Green and White.

    HH

  15. Loans ? Absolutely…

2021/22 is a season where we need to show pragmatism given the shape of the squad and a changing philosophy.

Right blend of perms and a smattering of quality loans – more Roberts than Kennys from our recruitment team please to fit Ange’s profile.

Pragmatism in the way we develop Angeball. Some of those risks in low margin games (and last night wasn’t one) such as Alkmar or der hun and we may lose.

Pragmatism from Ange on game management. Last week a prime example. Play the game out when we are winning.

Bigger tests coming but last night was an absolute joy to behold for a variety of reasons.

Back the manager and sort out the defence as a priority…get more creative in revenue generation Dom and mondernise the effin club rather than call out the cronies for a few months.

HH one and all and a late to send condolences to Robinbhoy’s family and friends.

It was great to be back last night, The Park was jumping.

    Highlights:

McGregor – a class above. Ran the show.

Rogic – getting back to his best. ‘Like a new signing’ if he keeps it up.

Joe Hart – 2 great saves. For both I expected to see the net bulge such is my level of expectancy about a Celtic goalkeeper. I was not alone judging by the reaction of the crowd.

Tempo, energy levels and intensity miles ahead of last year.

    Turnbull’s second – sublime strike.

Things that made me go Hmmmm……::

Seem vulnerable to the counter if the ball is given away in the final third.

Sometimes over elaborate playing the ball out from the back. Unsure if any of the back 4 have the technical ability to do this consistently.

Starfeld looks star-struck at times. Hopefully still finding his feet.

Celtic really need a left back. Energy and 100% commitment won’t cut it against quality opposition.

Flares – dearie me. The night was about the return to Celtic Park and everyone coming together. Not them.

The song book – a bit spicey at times. Oooooo aaaaa up the RA is just puerile.

The loon who invaded the pitch.

All in all a great night. Definitely moving in the right direction. I expect swift revenge on Sunday, but the AZ Alkmaar game will tell us more. For me the outcome depends on signings. I don’t think that defence will hold out against better opposition.

Had to laugh listening to Shortie on the way home. I wondered how they would piss on the parade. After some objective analysis they spent just as long talking about Gordon Strachen as they did about the game with Levein suggesting “Dundee owe them a favour”, whatever that means. They can’t help themselves.

Sorry for asking I was watching on my computer with no sound and I thought I saw someone running on to the pitch.

    ———————–

Joe Hart had the ball , was about to kick or throw it when the ref blew whistle. I had no idea why , looked round to see a steward chasing a moron up the pitch.

Steward brought him down , (to a huge cheer from the crowd) before he got to the penalty box at Jock Stein end I think he had

come on from the Lions Stand.

Someone earlier mentioned he should be banned for a season…. I think the majority of fans around me were suggesting a more immediate and forceful punishment.

Changed days ….if someone had run out of the Jungle he would have been cheered, the stewards would have been booed.

Last night , everyone immediately said ” that’s going to cost us thousands”.

As punishment ,he should be made to remove all of the cycle lane bollards from London Road.

These caused 30 -40 min tailback before and after the game.

I wouldn’t categorise The Celtic Symphony as puerile. I’d say for a song sung at at football match it’s quite sophisticated, albeit it goes over a lot of heads.

  22. Was there any TV analysis of the disallowed offside goal? It looked like a close call to me.

  23. Big W- I disagree my friend, loan players smais of short termism, lack of scouting, no loans unless we have a realistic price to buy. There are good players everywhere, the Jablonec RB was excellent, we should be looking at the Czech, Croatian, Serbia leagues for value and better quality than SPFL fodder, the Legia Warsaw RB looks good,£2.5-3 million quoted, good CV ,go get him.If we have 3 or 4 loan players, we will have to try and plug the same gaps, this time next season, hope you’re well HH

  24. lets all do the huddle on

why was their keeper not booked when he came rushing out and halved kyogo?

surely irrelevant that kyogo was offside

and im not even sure the whistle had went when the scything happened but again that shouldnt be relevant

  25. !!BADA BING!! on 13TH AUGUST 2021 10:19 AM

Generally speaking I agree but at the same time I wish we’d got Ajeti on loan :-)

  26. Bought the PPV not really for the game ( I’m happy following procedures on CQN) but for the reception given to Ange and the team. Worth every penny- and the game wasn’t half bad either!

  27. Hi Bada,

All good here fella and hope you’re well too.

I hear you. Our European ventures during July and August each year seem to throw up some terrific hidden talent but in facing into a massive recruitment job this year I just think I’m looking at pragmatism and a need over several windows to get there. The profile being more of the up and comers with something to prove than a Laxalt and Kenny we seemed to go for last year.

Defence not fixed in time for der hun and Alkmar is a travesty regardless of the increase in performance of Tony and Greg (good honest pros but not good enough) and don;t know how long it will take me not to shriek at the screen like a banshee when we do the pass from the back thing. A bad yin is coming and hope iot doesn’t cost us.

    HH fella.

  28. No problem with Loans with an option to buy.

Obviously I’d prefer us to buy quality but I’d take a Loan rather than leave ourselves vulnerable in key positions.

There will be tougher games ahead, Ange will also have to deal with Park the Bus SPFL Teams,

Thanks be to God only one plastic pitch to navigate.

However last night was wonderful, the energy & the movement was sublime and the Team played great as well,

CQN is also a different place, Feel the Love, Comrades, We’re back.

Corkcelt – is it my imagination or can the rest of the league vote out plastic pitches now Hamilton and Kilmarnock are relegated.

I have some vague recollection that you need 10 or 11 votes against so the plastic pitch mob stick together and it couldn’t be done.

As i say, maybe it’s a figment of my imagination based on wishful thinking.
