  1. Did anyone else get the the Shane Duffy is at parkhead w with his agent text, Tosh picked them up????

    Nah me either..

    D :)

  2. My top 3 were Defence, midfield and forwards.

All kidding aside when you look at our squad we should and will (if season goes the distance) wipe the floor with our domestic league.

    D :)

  3. Very happy tonight, these games always seem have the potential to cause us no ends of grief

Thats one out the road and we looked gooooooood

Anyone wishing to congratulate Bada or big Jimmy can do so by contacting their newly acquired butlers.

  5. Slip of the tongue I think by commentator on Celtic TV when big Jules scored his header “…..he’s a threat at both ends”

  6. My ‘merican football loving colleague at work stopped in my office during the game to lend his critique on something he has no knowledge of, just as the O.G went in and as he often does.

“He scored into his own goal? Is that like a once in a lifetime thing?”

Tell that to Richard Dunne who averaged an own goal once every 40 games or so through his career.

Imagine going home every time and having his good lady ask, “I didn’t watch the game, did you make a goal Ricky?”

“I’m off to the shed again” says he.

  7. Loved big Ramon. Anytime he duffed a pass or clearance he’d immediately look down at the turf to make us think it must have been a divot or something

  8. SFTB

Maybe because Caldwell was a far better footballer, their careers after Celtic went on to prove that.

  9. Terrific win and really happy for Greg Taylor getting his first goal.

Focus on Saturday’s game now for our first game at Tannadice in 4 or 5 years .

    Go

  10. That was a cracking bench we had tonight. I’d be happy if we bring in a new Centre Half and left back to complete the squad. We’d then have competition for every position. The 10 would be looking better

  11. We need a CB who prioritises defending.

It was a wee bit embarrassing when KR started finding gaps in our back 2 tonight, they are basically a junior team – let’s be honest!

I suspect Lenny wants to play a back 3, and for me El Hamed is a wide player – not a CB. He is great, and I would start him ahead of Frimpong in a back 4, but he is not a CB in a million years.

A big, strong, stopper type CB is needed, who will deal with big strikers backing in, using their hands, and getting on top of them. More and more SPL teams use that against us. I can see St Mirren, Acciès, Killie, Huns, Aberdeen and Livi all trying that this season.

  12. The hand of God on

That was a fun watch earlier great goal by Eddy and Moi looking sharp….watched PSG game afterwards could have scored 10 should be some final assuming Bayern beat Lyon.

Re two own goals in one game

Didn’t Andy Lynch put two past Roy Baines in 1977 at Fir Park? I think Peter Latchford got a recall at Easter Road on the Saturday when we clinched the league with Joe Craig scoring the goal.

It was the day Tom Hart wouldn’t allow TV cameras in.

  14. Just watched the CTV re-run. Smashing win.

Elhamed and Taylor are very decent fullbacks and I cant se why Greg doesnt get more plaudits for his usually tidy work. Good decision to spare Broony who had been typically influential. As suggested earlier, what woulda been lost in trying Frimpong in place of JF for 15 or 20. HH to big Jullien; brill ball for Moi’s first and cracking headed goal. Despite the haters, still a quality CH.

Can’t agree with you on Taylor I’m afraid mate.

For me he is slow, has poor skills (so can’t go past his man) and is not great defensively. He is also tiny, so will always struggle against anybody with any size/strength.

I can’t see Taylor ever playing at a higher level than Celtic. I can’t even imagine any English championship teams looking at somebody that small in fact. To sell KT, and replace him with Taylor, is a disgrace IMO. Surely for 25M we could have brought in somebody at 5/6M who is fast, athletic, strong and proven?

Nothing against the guy personally, but for me he is a weak link and I am pretty confident Celtic will be the peak of his career.

  16. Fair nuff, LUX; we all see players/the game in different ways.

While he’s no Dani Alves, Jordi Alba or Phil Lahm, height neednt be an issue for a RB. I like Greg’s energy, recovery and his cross balls are decent. To me, his positional/defending sense is no worse than KT who had big shortcomings in that dept. I think he’s maturing with us and I hope he keeps improving as the team does too. HH

  17. lost why they did not play frimpong in pace of Forrest or changed it to bring him on and take forrest off

Frimpong will hit the byline every day of the week and has the pace to do it, forrest cant match his pace , plus Frimpong would track back and inside to tackle , Forrest cant track backs and cant tackle

  18. Quad:

Interesting you say about height not being an issue for a full back.

In a recent interview with Ross Wallace (who came across really well btw) he explained how badly he struggled when Celtic used him at LB, specifically due to his lack of height. He explained that Hibs roasted him all afternoon with diagonals onto him with a big attacker up against him. Said it was basically that every week. He actually cited it as a reason for leaving – said as winger he was behind Maloney and McGeady, and he knew he would get shoved into LB.

Calum McGregor was also caught out badly against Cluj, costing us 40M last year. Cluj hit us down our right and winged crosses to our back post where wee Calum was completely outmatched. I know he is not a defender, but his lack of size contributed to him being unable to win a header, and cost us the goal.

Even Strachan alluded to it tonight when Julien scored. Strachan said it was nothing to do with the defender not being tight enough, simply that Julien was “Far too big, and far too strong” for him. (the KR right back).

For me – if we have Frimpong on one side, we need a bigger guy on the other side as an absolute minimum.

  19. Sydneytim – I think Forrest does track back (and tackle) a bit more nowadays than he did in the past to be fair.

Not his strong point I agree, but he is less of a flat out attacker these days than he used to be I feel.

CTV Commentator tonight alluded to Forrest being far deeper than Elyannoussi for example.

I agree though that Frimpong is very much a Wing Back – and if we go 352, then I would like to see him on the right of that middle 5.

  20. Interesting insight from Wallace but for me, still aye and naw LUX ;)

Mibby two shorties is tempting fate, but Elhamed is my first choice RB. I think GT is ‘safer’ as FB than Jeremy

Again, did height hold Alves, Alba, Baines, Evra, Carvajal etc back from doing decent defending work (none above 5’8…?)

Does it hold Aguero, Griezman or Sterling back while as strikers they’re dwarfed by big CBs?

    Cheers
