The relationship between the GB and the club is more symbiotic than parasitic.

I love the GB as well but at times they need to learn to box clever, maybe a couple of them don’t want to.

Bit of an overreaction though. Nothing wrong with most of the songs and the ‘Brendan at work’ banner, well if we’re getting done for that, there was an 80s pop band in Australia who should also be fined :)

    Fans/supporters

We are not as important as the green brigade

They are the only people who go an support the team

All my family are irish from the north

    They are quite simply embarrassing

The Green Brigade introduced songs and tifos that were gratefully merchandised and monetised by Celtic plc.

The “just can’t get enough t shirts”

The prints of the 125 years Tifo v Barcelona.

The season ticket campaigns citing the atmosphere at Celtic Park, much of which over the best part of the last 10 years has been largely instigated and sustained by the Green Brigade.

As Ernie says it’s a symbiotic not a parasitic relationship.

FFS, first it was a scarf that provoked huns, now its a GB banner that has offended everybody.

What will you all be offended by next. Drainpipe Trousers, Teenagers, Crisp Pokes, Haircuts.

So, a few of the GB had a banner. Its hardly the end of the world.

Maybe you should watch the news for a few hours, try Syria.

Or maybe even a comment on the disgraceful increase in the Pension age happening right here, which,I am sure will affect many on here.

Everything we do is offensive to them.Breathing ,for a start.Lets all just sit at the “Back of the bloody bus”and keep our heads down in case it offends them.

The 3rd Qualifying round looks like this:

    Group 1

Slavia Praha (CZE) v BATE Borisov (BLR)

Astana (KAZ) v Legia Warszawa (POL)

Maribor (SVN) v FH Hafnarfjördur (ISL)

    København (DEN) v  Vardar (MKD)

    Celtic (SCO) v Rosenborg (NOR)

    Group 2

Hapoel Beer-Sheva (ISR) v Ludogorets (BUL)

    Viitorul (ROU) v APOEL (CYP)

    Salzburg (AUT) v Rijeka (CRO)

    Qarabağ (AZE) v Sheriff (MDA)

    Partizan (SRB) v Olympiacos (GRE)

We can then meet any of the lowest 5 seeds that get through. There are a lot of familiar names in there but none that I think we cannot overcome.

Thanks to all of the CQNers for their updates.  I listened to it on Sportsound.

My personal highlight was, at 4-0 down on the night, 6-0 on aggregate and less than 2 minutes to go, the Linfield fans were singing “We are the People”.  What an advert for the power of Buckfast!

That must be where all the empty pallets come from.

  12. Morning all

As a grey haired curtain twitcher (though my gaff has blinds) I have to say I disagree with sentiments expressed here by posters I usually agree with – I would not wish to fall out with you guys just to disagree

I thought last night was the most disagreeable occasion I have been at Celtic Park in quite some time and the presence of our visitors ( a grouping whose collective values are anathema to me) had less to do with the feeling of annoyance I felt for much of the evening than I would have thought it would.

I was pretty hacked off by the way the team finished off some fine attacking play with some really wasteful finishing. Even though he got two goals and played superbly Scott Sinclair was guilty whilst Moussa Dembele looks as out of form as he did in three or four games he played prior to his injury in the semi final. We should be too strong for Rosenborg but we said that about Malmo and Molde too. We’ll see.

But I am more sorry that there was a spell early in the second half where the atmosphere was febrile. I looked at my friend -a Lisburn born non-Catholic who has supported us all his life- and his face just said more than I ever could. This was not a proud demonstration of pride in our past and our origins this was aggressive and filled with hatred. This was showing people who should be beneath our contempt that we can sink to their level. This went so far beyond banter that banter is but a speck in the distance. It was people who know better and who laugh at people stuck in the past seeming to wish to remain in a past of their own. This was not just a quick blast of ‘the rebs’ by any stretch of the imagination. In My Opinion.

I will acknowledge right now that I am using this as an opportunity to vent my spleen and some things ‘are better out than in’. Last season was a lovely season and the support and the Green Brigade were part of why I loved it so much. Last night was for me a reminder of why I wish Ceitic – club , support, culture- was not part of the environment it operates in and also why I wish I could break from those ties too. I hate Linfield and all that they embrace too but wish I didn’t even care about them

Spleen vented and back to those metaphorical curtains.

Interesting story of a Belfast hun arrested for singing “Fenian B******” very loudly during the game last night. I thought Scottish Society was very tolerant towards Anti-Catholic songs especially, considering they’re belted every week, with zero condemnation &, or action taken by the authorities to stamp it out.

Surely if this Linfiel supporters Solicitor was in anyway half-decent he would all audio files of games involving Rnegers or Hearts to use in his client’s defense.

All those audio hours of Sectarian Singing; How many arrests?

Linfield fan will “face wrath of his wife” over sectarian singing

The 46-year-old appeared in court over offences relating to Champions League game in Glasgow

A Linfield fan who sang sectarian lyrics at a football match against Celtic will “face the wrath of his wife”, a court has heard.

Scott Colville, 46, from Belfast was caught singing the phrase “F****n b******d” loudly, at the Parkhead stadium where the Blues lost 4-0 in the Champions League qualifiers.

He was lifted by officers before the match on July 19 and spent a night in the cells before his appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court where he admitted the offence contrary to the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act.

Sheriff Brian Cameron told Colville: “I think the wrath of your wife will probably be more than the punishment I’m going to hand out, particularly when she hears you have been fined the sum of £300.”

Procurator fiscal depute Lauren Staunton said: “Police witnesses observed the accused singing a well known football song ‘Super Rangers’.

“They could hear the accused singing loudly ‘we hate Celtic F***** b*******’.”

Kate Phillips, defending, said greengrocer Colville had been drinking since he got on the ferry in Belfast yesterday morning and after arriving in Glasgow around 3.30pm before the match.

She added: “He described the atmosphere as they walked in to Celtic Park as sense and somewhat boisterous and that there were the usual comments thrown from one side to the other.

“He was under the influence at the time and he found himself caught up in the atmosphere of everything else that going on and joined in with singing.

“He will return to Belfast at some point today, to face the wrath of his wife who is not too impressed.”
