Great post , love reading about big JOCK ,

he had a tactical brain imo Ronny does not,

why after being in charge for over a year does

he still think Efe is a defender, why no LB signed

    or brought through either.

At Malmo’s 1st goal Lustig was left 2 on 1 at the

far post, does nobody talk or organise in our

back 4 ,seems not. VVD as the senior CH has to take

control there and see the picture and direct players

to cover, does he do that like big Billy used to do.

Defenders have to defend first and foremost, simple as that.

We need a dominant CH who can defend and organise at the

back ,somebody to take control ,we are lacking that.

I hope Ronny comes good but he aint no Jock Stein that’s

for sure. Just the way i see it , oot to walk the dog.

  2. Morning all.

    Well!

Dream start – 2-0 up after 10 mins. Malmo should have been dead and buried by half-time.

Gave away two silly goals, one right at the death.

It’s concerning that we have conceded 6 goals in our last 3 matches, 4 of them at home.

    Huge performance required next week.

Can we keep a clean sheet?

    Can we score out there?

    Who knows!

    Crowd were fantastic.

    HH!!

  3. Mind that time Age Hareide came out and said Helsingborgs were a better team than Celtic after we won the first leg 2-0 in Sweden?

    Worked out well for him…

Great post mate. You as ever say exactly what’ve thunk. Only better!

So Celtic behaved like pigs and children pin that up in the dressing room next Tuesday Ronny. We are not out of this tie yet we are capable of getting a result in Sweden but all the players need to put in a performance it is very likely to be big VVDs last game for the hoops so the big man should want to leave on a high.Ronny has a few issues he needs to sort out and im sure does not want it on his record that he has failed to get us into the CL group stage two years in a row. H.H.

  6. SFTB

Betting on the 90 minutes in Sweden has Malmo very slight favourites, so, you’re right, we’ll be favourites to qualify with a goal advantage, though I don’t see any odds yet on that.

Manure’s late goal scored rather than conceded made some difference. They’re 1/33 to qualify now. Hope their fans behave in the beautiful city of wonderful beers, Bruges.

  7. Dear psychologists of CQN, please help. I am a contrary wee bugger.

I was disappointed by the late goal, really quite annoyed. I get home and log onto twitter and the blog and see a stream of annoyed posts. That annoys me and I am immediately defensive of the team and critical of those venting their frustration.

Couldn’t believe we were in for Ciftci, had never impressed me and was lucky to score against us. We sign him to reasonable acclaim. He has only played 4 competitive games, in European competition, and is being derided as a dud. I so want the guy to succeed and can see how he holds the ball up so much better than other we have in the team.

Griffiths, scoring goals, now the hero. Man, now I can only see his limitations. In the lad of the blind the one eyed man is king.

I am and always have been James Forrest’s biggest fan, guy’s electric. Starts getting a bit of acclaim and I want all these people to know and ram it down their throats that it’s in spite of their criticism that he’s doing well.

    What is wrong with me?

On the subject of Berget he is not a bad player I saw him score a wonder goal for Celtic I believe it was in an away game against Seville we were winning 2-0 but eventualy lost 4-2.As I said Berget scored a screamer.H.H.

Those that scream downsizing probably would not have posted last night had it stayed 3-1.

Downsizing but our best player last night was Leigh Griffiths closely followed by academy product James Forrest. Armstrong had a great game and Gordon had a good save at 2-0.

Is it only downsizing if it’s Scottish based players we are buying?

Ciftci came in for some unwarranted criticism after the game. I think he got about 15 mins. He looked to me to rumble up their defence at a crucial time. Couple of his touches were poor but he had no one to pass to. Leigh was injured, he wasn’t hooked.

Let’s not forget Leigh was out of favour last year. The manager looks to have done his job on him. I wasn’t convinced Leigh would make it at Celtic but performances like last night could change my mind.

One could argue that the players we have (allegedly) downsized to are better than the more expensive players and that the purchase of the best Scottish talent works. See Scepovic, Pukki, Boeerigter as examples of bigger money flops.

You can’t have it all ways. Seems a tad short sighted to wheel out the ‘what do you expect from an ex Dundee United player’ line.

I was crying out for a striker until I saw that header last night. Reminded me of another striker we had a while back. I’d be going all out for Greg Stuart and young Christie rather than spend another 2 million on some mercenary.

  10. BlantyreKev

I get where you are coming from. I done the same with Efe when everyone was slating him. I think his confidence is gone and more importantly the confidence of his team mates.

I want all Celtic players to succeed like yourself.

    Good post.

After calming down last night I find we did win the game and we can still go through and if we dont we are still in Europe in the Europa League.Celtic never seem to do things the easy way. H.H.

Contrary Wee Bugger Syndrome, or CWBS as we professionals refer to it, just about covers it. A marvellous example of self-diagnosis.

The good news is that this is not a limiting condition. A career on Internet social messaging sites is very suitable for those with CWBS. However practising these traits on match nights with real life opponents, as opposed to virtual ones, may lead to such side effects as a sore face and an overnight stay in A & E.

    Tired and wee bit deflated….

Really enjoyed two visits to celtic park

and last night in the B.V.

Was chatting to some malmo fans after the game and they said they loved celtic park..better than they were told

Be away with the pair of you. This is a day for bumping gums, for making a spurious connection between a disappointing result and a long-held opinion, for howling at the moon, and howling more because there’s no moon to howl at.

Reason and balance have no place here today.

    Beat it.

    Good morning bhoys and ghirls!

Forrest was brilliant lastnight. He showed a hunger and willingness to take the ball and take players on, something he perhaps has lacked for a while now. Maybe it was a confidence issue or maybe he knows he needs to perform much better to stay at the club.

Either way, it was great to watch him play like that again and I’m reasonably confident that Celtic can win over in Sweden. We played some nice stuff, let down by the fact we didn’t push on after our 2nd goal.

Just my humble opinion, for what little it’s worth.

  16. Hard to sleep last night and kept going over the game in my mind.

This morning I’m now focussed on being positive. The tie could have been over by half time, which gives me optimism. Armstrong was excellent in the first half and their half chances came from misplaced passes.

We need to get the mentality right for next week and play for a win. We can’t hold on to what we have.

  17. Good morning CQNers,

I can’t help but feel that we missed a golden opportunity to kill off this tie last night through naivety mixed with a touch of arrogance.

If we are to have serious European ambitions then manager and team have to understand when it is time to twist and when it’s time to stick. I’m afraid I disagree with the esteemed BRTH and I would have preferred us to shut up shop in the 2nd half and go to Sweden without them scoring. Now we go to a team that has scored two goals against us and their wily manager will fill them with bravado for the return leg.

The loss of Lustig and a possible doubt about Bitton who jarred his knee badly in a 2nd half tackle severely weakens our defensive abilities, I hope and trust a more defensive mindset is adopted and we show a bit more respect to this Malmo team in the return leg.

  18. Hi Celts.

Would just like to say that I think we could go through this tie.

A couple of things worry me though….what if LG gets injured?….Will the Malmo fans be allowed to use their standing room area next week?….The Malmo fans will be a crucial factor next week….I hope their all-seated-diluted…When will Celtic’s managers realise that, players like ML who are undoubtedly talented are also…always injured?…a drain on resources…pay them off and move on….free them…just get rid.

Again….Celtic fans getting hung-up about the amount of money that is at stake in the CL-pot….why?

The question that you should be asking is….when we get all this CL-money…where does it go?…Anyway…Celts to go through next week…..Some folk on the nightshift were wondering who to blame for last nights victory?….Some were pondering the route to take to get rid of – the board-PL-DD-etc – I’ve been telling yeez for years on here…to get rid of the Celtic hierarchy…withold the SB-money…inform the hierarchy that, Celtic supporters want to take control of ‘their’ club to finally fulfill Fergus’s unfulfilled promise and…we’ll propose to buy the hierarchy’s shares with the with-held SB-money….The hierarchy would melt-panic-cave-in….finally realising that, Celtic supporters arent softy-cash-cows…waiting to be milked but, a force of rebellious refugees…driven by uppitty-Tims who don’t kowtow to a hun-loving-establishment.

Well…I’m sure yeez might agree with me when I say that…I’ve more important things to worry about.

I’ll try to come back on in a few days….take c

Did not post last night. Could not believe the negative comments on here. Read a bit of the blog after I came home from the game about how bad a team we are, Jesus I’ve seen some bad Celtic teams this is no wan. Their second goal was a punch in the drawers but we are by far the better team. We can go to Sweden and win, a defensive display like Quarabag and take our chances because we will get them against this mob.

Ronnys tactics were spot on we had a couple of players injured and some sloppy play which cost us but we sent up well and for me the right team started. I’d rest griff and Bitton on Saturday because Tuesday is massive but we are well capable of a result in Sweden, short journey and similar climate. We could have been better set up for return leg but as I said the late goal was a sore one but they need to beat us we don’t need to beat them.

  20. mullet and co 2 on

Yes Spirit of 67 compare Ronny to big Jock. A European Cup winner and runner up, 9 in a row, international manager. The man that changed football.

Ronny has potential but the margins between failure and success are finer than Leigh Griffs hair. Playing Efe at right back doesn’t constitute failure. In Ronny we trust otherwise it’s back to the drawing board with Paul Hartley or some such next year as no doubt folks wouldn’t suffer John Collins.

It all comes down to whether you are a glass half empty

  22. Enjoyed last night. Missed both goals at start due to late getting in. Played well in parts but let it slip away second half. So dissapointed to lose late goal. See what happens over there looking 50/50 for me.

  23. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

    We’ll go through,easy.

Complacency set in for their first and haste to kill the tie off near the end gifted them a second.

Celtic showed we can go up a gear if need be,we were a certainty to score a third after they got their first,Celtic gave them a chance to land a punch and they did,our reply was akin to “ya cheeky wee bassa” n returning the dig.

I was wishing we had big Samaras for the added on time, not that we needed him but the tactic of going to the far corner was all we needed to do.

Discipline, patience and the desire to put Malmo back in their place or at least their manager.

  24. Is that it?

Comment of the night in the club when Lustig got stretchered off on that hammock thing-

“He’s a great player when he’s on but he’s no awe that guid in the stand.”

    Profound.

I had to leave on 87 minutes last night to beat the rush (grandson school). Caught the late goal on Shortbread and the commentator, can’t remember his name, was euphoric. I’d say the vast majority of msm want us knocked out, regardless of Scottish coefficient, possible extra spl income or much needed exposure. Lets disappoint them Celtic.

    BRTH

Thoroughly enjoyed your post about Stein’s tactics. His job was made much easier by the quality he had to work with. It’s like watching Bayern these days, where they have great strength from middle to front and down both flanks. Danger everywhere is hard to combat.

  27. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I believe we must go to Sweden looking for a win to try and hold out for a draw is a dangerous strategy.I expect Malmo will push on looking to get a goal as soon as possible a 1-0 win is all they require to qualify. However,I think we can exploit there openess and score a vital away goal. H.H.

  29. Our game is hard on the body with a lot of pressing and running. Is this why we are dropping like flies with injuries etc.

Even if the above might be true, we had the majority of possession for most of the game and had them running around chasing shadows in the first half.

Why, were they fresher in the last 20 minutes then?

To react to your post earlier.

I am right already. The coach has clearly asked the players to start making wild accusations to rile up our Bhoys.

I have always held the belief he would do this;-)

Malmo goalkeeper Johan Wiland has launch an extraordinary attack on Celtic and accused the team of acting like “pigs” and children, reports the Daily Record.

Wiland singled out former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Leigh Griffiths, insisting he was like a child, during Malmo’s 3-2 Champions League play-off defeat at Parkhead on Wednesday.

In other news Man City sign their new CB for crazy money.

I wonder where Denayer will be heading. If City had decided to buy him earlier maybe we would have not conceded 2 last night? Maybe we would have?
