I’m pulling you chain a wee bit – apologies.

Sometimes I think Stefan would benefit from a wee pre-match sherry.

Ghuys, you need to stop panicking. We’re better than Malmo. We’ll Malmorise them next week.

  3. BIG-CUP-WINNERS

I would have taken 1 nil

we know we have to score over there.

The champions league money would put further distance between ourselves and that mob who will be back in the top flight next year. Surely our custodians would pull out all the stops to make sure they didn’t gain any ground on us……………………..wouldn’t they??…………….

  5. Anyway, could’ve been worse, as in Partizan Belgrade worse, when we threw a great match away in the last minute. With no way back or chance to atone.

At least we get another chance to defend and pass properly next week, which might get us through.

See, feeling better and more forgiving already.

Might even try getting to sleep now.

    Hail Hail!

  6. Forrest MOTM with as good a performance as I’ve seen from him. Play like that next week, with the extra space as they push forward, and he will be our match winner. Wrap him in cotton wool and don’t even let him on the bus to Tannadice.

  7. Haven’t seen a re-run of the game yet…don’t really want to but VVD was screaming at Efe after the second goal.

He blamed him … no mistake!

Personally, I’m sick of some of this team.

All those on here who speak about downsizing are bang on and we really shouldn’t kid on it’s anything else.

    FFS Cifti!

Johansen! (Player of the Year my arse!)

    Efe!

    Izzy!

    God where does it end?

I hope next week we pull a result out of the bag but I can’t see it.

  8. Just in from the game and unusually for me I’m a glass half full and not half empty.

Fantastic opening period from us and but for a bad miss by SJ the tie would be over.

Still confident we’ll go through but I’m worried about our back line.

My God , please don’t sell VVD.

    Prediction…. Malmo 1 Celtic 1

Ps. Brown Bitton VVD & The Griff are class acts

  9. the glorious balance sheet on

If anybody thinks Adam Matthews would have done better than Efe Ambrose at stopping the attack down the right hand side then I suggest they watch footage of maribor’s goal at Celtic park last season which also came after lustig went off injured.

  10. Ok some other observations from tonight’s game

Stuart Armstrong told the bench he was struggling hence that substitution – thought GMS was poor when he came on

Leigh Griffith stated in an interview I heard on radio driving back, that he also hurt his foot, kicked a players boot, so played a part in his substitution – Ciftci was poor, really will struggle as no game time, so match fitness will be poor, could have brought on Kris Commons ?

Unfortunate in Mikael Lustig injury, Efe was poor as his replacement, gave ball away a couple of times and missed tackle for last minute corner

Nir Biton was holding hamstring at end of game

James Forrest also had an ankle injury, but finished the game

So looks likely a few struggling for next week ( and this weekend)

Do we play Janko as right back next week or Fisher ?

Do we play Charlie at Left Back ? Malmö did seem to target Izzy tonight ?

A lot of questions for us next week

    But

We are ahead, and only need a draw, which in tonight’s evidence is achievable

    Now Nytol and Hail Hail

  11. johann murdoch on

Personally I blame PL for the first goal -he should have been quicker from the directors box to close down Berget

The second goal? What was DD thinking ??? Should have cleared his lines !!!

  12. Three significant injuries, to major contributors to our cause, plus Bitton legless for the last ten minutes, did not help tonight. Enforced changes disrupted our rhythm.

GMS was never ready to take over at left mid.

Leigh was on a hat trick, why even consider Cifti to replace him?

Lustig is one of our best players, when fit; no one would play Efe before a fit Lustig.

But they were all injured. Ronny didn’t make a tactical change, he made enforced changes.

Not going to slate any Celt after yet another European victory!

I console myself that tonight was a bit of an unknown quantity before we started. At least next Week we will know exactly what we have to do and will surely have a game plan worked out for it.

  16. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    Burghbhoy

Thta’s the rub we have quite a few good un’s “Brown Bitton VVD & The Griff”, when you add the likes of Gordon then we have a even more. Problem is we have a few on the minus side, who exhibit the same weaknesses 2 or 3 years into their time at Celtic park.. Now I’m presuming they have been coached to desist ? And have been unable to adapt so why are they still there ?

  17. We are 3-2 up at HT.

We were the better team tonight by a mile bar 2 poor mistakes.

Every confidence we will make it to the CL.

  18. johann murdoch on

Tbb -what should Ronny do Saturday ? Wrap wee jamsie and Leigh in cotton wool for Tuesday ?

    Scott allan to start?

  19. Pogmahon…..

See my comments about how Malmo squeezed Brown and Biton.

That’s why they looked poor. Outnumbered and Orestes into passing the ball backwards.

It was good to be home, though.,,,

  20. johann murdoch on

Re pressing for 20 mins etc -I don’t think our team and indeed most teams of our level can maintain that constantly over 90 mins -the better teams then rely on the superpowers of exceptional players like messi-Ronaldo and others etc to plug the gaps -hh

  21. johann murdoch on

The exceptional players also keep the ball under pressure – our weakest ” panic” at CL level

  22. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

The sieve is back. 6 goals conceded in a week against very moderate opposition isn’t anywhere near good enough. Make no mistake, Malmo were very ordinary opposition. They were workmanlike, uninspiring and mistake ridden. Then so were we, sloppily gifting possession under no pressure on a number of occasions. Eventually we were going to get punished and we did from Brown’s poor header. We managed to make Berget look a player, which we weren’t capable of when he actually played for us. Ambrose is a walking disaster. Everyone groaned when poor Lustig (who was having an excellent game) pulled up and Ambrose came on. He then managed to get nutmegged 4 times in 10 minutes, eventually leading to the corner and second goal. Also, classically, gave away possession in a dangerous area under no pressure. He is a bad football player. From a tactical point of view it was criminal to concede from the last kick of the ball. We should have been able to run down the clock. Positives for me were Griffiths (outstanding in all aspects, especially impressive in winning headers all night), Gordon, Boyata, Van Dijk and Forrest (attitude was brilliant). Lustig too before injury and I’m really pessimistic if Ambrose starts next week. He’s always good to gift a goal. I thought they targeted Izzy as weak link, but thought he had a good game apart from diving in early on. Armstrong had his moments, but was a serial offender in conceding possession cheaply. He’s a prospect, but needs to learn from this. GMS made a difference when he came on, but Ciftci didn’t, at least not in a positive way. He’s shaping up as the new Darren Jackson…. Not a patch on Griffiths, who always looked dangerous on the shoulder of defenders? Ciftci is always coming short and he has neither the skill nor pace to do anything from that position. I hope Ronny does it next week, but I’m not hopeful. I predict 2-1 Malmo and sorry to say because I really like Ronny, but that would be an epic fail. Malmo are highly beatable and Celtic should be beating Malmo. No excuses.

  23. Tonight feels like a defeat…no matter how you spin it.

When I wake up it will still feel like a defeat but I’ll read all the through the night posters who will, hopefully, through a positive light on it.

    I hope!

    Night all.

  24. Johann,

I agree. Therefore when we need to take a break from the pressing we need to accept that the opposition will have more possession.

At that point, I would drop Armstrong into a midfield 3 with Brown and Biton for a wee while.

  25. I’m pure wrung out soamur.

I’ve experienced every emotion since 4pm.

    Anticipation on the train home.

Horror as we crawled at 5mph from dunblane to Cumbernauld.

Breathlessness running from the cemetery on London road to Paradise in 8 minutes.

Joy at arriving in the 2nd minute to see the goal in the 3rd.

Contentment at some excellent football played in the 1st half.

Certainty that if we’d gone 3-0 up there was no way back for them.

Heart-wrench to see Lustig on a stretcher again.

Concern when Joe Hanson was faffing around in the 95th minute on the wind up when all he should have focussed on was defending the corner.

A concern that Berget would finally show Celtic Park what he was capable of.

Seldom felt so down after a win. Reckon our chances are 48:52 against to go through.

But being the happy clapper that I am I still think we can do it.

  26. Fair play to beardie Berget for two good goals.

Who’d have thunk it ? Not moi i thought he was pants for us.

  27. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

So Mikael Lustig injury is his hamstring………..better than I feared at the game. Thought he’d done his knee.

  28. Had a last scroll back before bed and having been educated by the experts here realised just how bad a team we are, its no wonder we are getting beaten so often. Played 14 games in all, won 11 drew 2 and lost one.

If you confine it to competitive games its 9 games played won 7 and drew 2.

We are far from perfect but we are not as bad as guys on here are making out. The injuries to Armstrong & Lustig weakened us, the last minute goal took the gloss off our win and I’m as sick as any negatonian about it.

We have an awkward game on Saturday (which I will miss as I’m attending a wedding in London), we will need to rest key players there, good apportunity to give the likes of Janko , Allan & Stokes a game and see will any of the fringe players put their name in the frame for return Malmo game. No one has died we still have a good fifty fifty chance of making Group Stage Champions League. Keep the Faith.

  29. Boyata will come good. What is needed is a Spanish midfielder to run the centre of the park. Biton needs such a player beside him, as does Scott Brown. Fisher is a good right back, as is Janko. You just don’t come into a team and perform right away. This time last year I was extoling Craig Gordon, and defending the Griff. Efe Ambrose should not be played in defence, but as back four protector—that is where he will shine. He was not the only player lacking concentration tonight.

  30. PS that was the best I’ve ever seen Forest play. He was excellent.

And the Griff leapt like a salmon.

The Cifti was also fish like in his leaping. Sadly more Dover soul than salmon.

    Night Timdom.
