There must be better defenders than Efe out there. Me for example? 4 stone over weight BTW

  2. But Corkcelt your unquestioning loyalty to a board shafting you is actually harming the thing you love. Do you get that? And conceding in the last minute is just a wee symptom of the disease.

I saw lustig cry tonight because he knew, he knew, his body won’t ever let him realise his potential. It was pretty heartbreaking.

Captain beefheart. The enemy is within. Cqn is part of the problem.

The most ethical club in the world and no blushing.

Have you ever heard such tripe.

But that’s what Paul and the board actually believe.

    .

It’s not that they live in another world. It’s another universe they live in but while they do they are harming all of us.

CELTIC DAWN on 19TH AUGUST 2015 10:37 PM

w will scrape a draw over there, and perform poorly in the group stages pocketing circa £20m. such is our lot in life

That is the best case scenario unfortunately.

  4. Captain Beefheart on

Malmo personify mediocrity. We have more money though. We must win this tie. If not, disaster looms.

    “Ronny blundered tonight”.

    Indeed he did.

And he has form on that score.

  6. Last 15 minutes Ronny. School boy tactics mate

Wee boy wide right. Wee boy wide left

Project up front (that’s all PL would invest in strike force. Shame on him)

    Left brown on his own

Ps Griffiths you are beginning a star

Pps failure here must spell end to PL cash cow

  7. Ach, wit ye like Celtic?

Didn’t see the game but followed on twitter. Gutted to have conceded so late but we’ll see what next week brings.

Devastated that my favourite player Lustig got injured again.

I’ll be wearing black until he returns to fitness.

  8. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I wish the ref tonight was like Clive Thomas from the 1978 World Cup game between Brazil and Sweden.

  9. bournesouprecipe on 19th August 2015 10:41 pm

Nice to see some of the regulars at the Gazebo including Dermot Desmond, wonder what he thought about Celtic’s biggest asset, our supporters –

My guess is that he would have thought a lot more about the support if they had not been there.

  10. Another worry is what has happened to Ronnys system?

I was one of his cheerleaders this time last year, convinced he would install the players to carry out the high pressing, high tempo game which could have been a great leveller for us in Europe.

Now we seem to have almost abandoned that. And to hear the other manager questioning our fitness?

He was saying we should be buying young players to develop into CL players but, again, that isn’t happening.

Has Ronny changed his outlook or is the pressure of getting results affected his philosophy?

Just a wee Question. How much wages are the Malmo players on.Do you know how much of a financial advantage we have over Malmo. Is it Massive?.These are good things to know.HH.

    http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malmo-ff/startseite/verein/496

Do any of this lot strike you as big earners? Our captain is reputed to be on £25k a week. Kris Commons who can’t make the starting XI is on at least £15k a week. Our total wage bill and turnover is massive compared to theirs.

We got papped oput of the CL twice last season by teams whose players earned a fraction our players earn. Then we said it was ok as it wasn’t Ronny’s team. This lot are without doubt his team and they had better start justifying their high wages next Tuesday. Their can be no more excuses.

  12. Captain Beefheart on

    Macjay,

The Cifci signing is bizarre. That said, he needs time.

Don’t want defensive play next week. Attack needed.

  13. SydneyTim on 19th August 2015 10:46 pm

    Don’t kid yourself.

Somebody else will take the fall before PL does.

  14. Don’t want to be negative but I can see exactly where this tie is going now. We’ll have a scrappy match in Sweden and lose another late goal to lose 2-1 and out in away goals.

What disappointed me most was that we looked unfit in the last 10-15 minutes. The legs had completely gone and we weren’t picking up out wide. We had the ball with plenty of time, not being close down but nobody was willing to step to the side or push ahead off the ball to receive a pass. It was asking for trouble.

  15. Usual story over here… watched the game in a pub full of Swedes. Gone are the days when big groups of Celtic fans would gather in Luxembourg. Swedes were extremely quiet all game apart from at their goals, and no wonder…. that malmo team is terrible.

i haven’t seen the stats yet, but am guessing we must have had 65% posession?

Seriously, if we cannot beat that club over two legs, then we are a a disgrace in professional terms.

The team needs to look at the powerpoint shown to the U20s by their coaches (McIntyre? Fraikl?) before games, about defending corners:

“Take Responsibility. Be Aggressive. But Most Of All- Do YOUR Job”

  16. Hard to read some of this. Yes it was gutting to concede the second. But all the same people who are calling for heads now would have been delighted with 3-1. I was disappointed with how lethargic we were at the start of the second 45. We should have killed them off but a wonder striker got them back into it.

Genuinely think we are a much better side. They aren’t as good as Qarabag. The negativity on here is embarrassing to be frank.

  17. The Battered Bunnet on

It’s difficult to be objective without the requisite distance. 2 minutes in the door from the game after the grumpiest drive home in a long time isn’t the requisite distance but…

There’s something weird about the pattern of our play. We go hard, press, harry, then back off. Then go again, and back off. It seems to go in 20 minute periods. Hareide’s quip after the match that our players can’t last 90 minutes I think is a wee wind up, but there is some truth in it nevertheless, evidenced by the goals conceded in the last our matches.

3-2 ill-reflects the nature of the game though. We were considerably better for most of the match in most areas of the pitch. It’s the dull yin of the late strike that poisons the palate.

At 2-0, with Johansen through at around 25 minutes, there was a moment when the outcome of the tie was all but sown up. A weak finish straight at the keeper kept Malmo in it though, and they managed to get themselves organised thereafter to stay in it.

The start of the second half was poor from Celtic. Again, my sense of it is that this was a 20 minute ‘off period’ in terms of the pressing game. Their goal was preventable at 3 points: Forrest at the edge of their box, Izaguirre at the halfway line, and again before the ball was finally crossed.

We might reflect on the wisdom of attacking corners with both centre halfs, a full back and a sitting midfielder, plus the forwards. When the ball is cleared, 80% of our defence is the wrong side of the ball, and in this instance, while Lustig got back quick enough to cover his man’s move into the central position, Forrest wasn’t wasn’t in evidence at the back post to cover Berget, whose strike was a peach, to be fair.

We scored again of course to go 3-1, though there wasn’t anything between the teams for much of the 2nd half. At that point there was a simple, professional job to do.

That job wasn’t made easier by Lustig’s injury, and Ciftci’s contribution after coming on for Griffiths was negligible, but for the first time in as long as I can remember, and with essentially the last kick of the ball, we allowed Malmo to score from a corner kick.

There’s a standard in European football. It’s a professional standard, combing the techniques of the trade, the athleticism of the elite, and the mentality of the winner. I’m afraid we have some players who don’t yet understand that standard, that requirement, and until they do, or are replaced, we will be apt to disappoint.

From the edge of conclusive victory, we’ve conspired to give Malmo the advantage. 3-2 at home in Europe is a fraught position to be in. I’d rather have lost the first leg away fro home by that score, that won it at home as we did tonight.

Word is that Lustig’s injury doesn’t look good, while both Armstrong and Bitton were hobbled during the match. Not a promising outlook.

Be in no doubt that we have a hell of a job to do next week. If we turn up with the requisite attitude, we will prevail. Anything less and it’s gute nacht Wien to the Champions League, and that would be a sorry perspective altogether.

  18. Bonus culture needs to stop.

Time for a changes at board level.

If we fail again, heads should roll.

    Somebody needs to take responsibility.

    HH

  19. Away goals only count double in the event of a draw and so far we are ahead in this tie. Any further away goals can only be scored by us and we showed that we can certainly score against that team. I’m still hopeful we can do it.

  20. Dublinbhoy

It might be pointless attributing blame for the second goal to a particular player, but I fail to see what’s stupid about it. I continued to post while gutted at the injustice of that result, the manner in which it happened, disappointed for us and the players. I didn’t go away and give it any thought.

So what? It’s a blog! Opinions, reactions, venting.

    Great fun!

  22. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

Still don’t think they’re near us,two stupid goals to give away, typical of Celtic making us sweat, patience and concentration plus we’ll score more over there.

Malmo are not as good as us ,like a domestic game where we need to score and do.

    Bring it on.

  23. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Yup, we allowed them back into the game. At 2-0 we could and should’ve finished them. Instead we got caught between stick or twist. Problem is we have 2 or 3 players who regularly cannot retain the ball, and tonight even Nir succumbed to giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

I know we can’t go over there and defend. Malmo also seem blighted at the back. How poor is their right

    back ?

Goals to be had in Sweden. In fact they’re a must as I just can’t see Deila charting us to a 0-0.

  24. the long wait is over on

    Ciftci is , frankly, hopeless.

I’ve seen nothing so far to suggest there’s anything worth persisting with in him.

My prediction for next week :-

    2-2 and go through

  25. Bonuses at boardroom based only on finance are killing us.

If they don’t want to change we have to stop guving them their finances.

If I am wrong lets hear it Peter.

The only unique thing about Celtic is us. Stop criminalising us and start listening to us.

  26. I don’t see many posters saying we will go out.

I do see posters upset at the result / performance against what we consider to be a poor side. It does now leave our CL participation in jeopardy.

Malmo are captained by Kari Arnason. They are a poor, poor side.

We have 2 players of real quality – VVD and Craig Gordon.

I read of our supposed interest in Hooper and looked back at some of his goals on YouTube. Seeing players like Ki, Ledley, Wanyama and even Samaras being replaced by GMS, Scott Allan and Ciftci is concerning for many Celtic fans.

  27. quonno

He only comes to big games like a lot of Celtic fans

I make it nine players signed and resigned since the Maribor game.

The posters that can’t see Celtic investing money within our budget, are fantasists, who try with ad nauseum, to disrupt the Blog.

    Thye’re not Celtic supporters.

  28. Win your home leg dont lose your away leg simples

    Still on course.

I am highly confident we will at least draw over there.

    Good night all

missed the CQN corner but landed next to Jobo

Ohhh Virgil should have howffed the ball into north stand for a throw in and not a corner in the 95th min , but hey ho, its Celtic we dont do straight forward.

    Somebody needs to take responsibility.

    You are probably right.

However, the only thing that will bring about your suggested change is swathes of empty seats and it ain’t going to happen.
