  1. poor defending for their first goal ML positional sense poor, left Berget uncovered.

Why take off LG Ronny, our fulbacks can’t defend, and I agree we tired badly.

w will scrape a draw over there, and perform poorly in the group stages pocketing circa £20m. such is our lot in life

That is the best case scenario unfortunately.

I would snap your hand off for that scenario. It’s all about being at the party this year.

We need to re invest 50% if we qualify to give ourselves a chance to qualify in the future.

  3. FFS will you stop all the greeting like weans.

If we are not good enough, that’s the way it is.

And if we cant beat Malmo, well we shouldn’t be there.

    Europa League it is.

We threw that away tonight with woeful defending.

Malmo are not a great team, but either are we.

    Macjay,

The Cifci signing is bizarre. That said, he needs time.

    =======================================================================================

    Precisely.He needs time.

Not to be thrown in at the deep end in a must win match.

5 years? More like 55 years lol

There manager is delusional as his side should have been buried. My concern for over there is exactly the point you make. We will need to pass the ball better than we did tonight or our error prone back line will be put under even more pressure. What’s so frustrating is we have a better team than Malmo as we did last year v Maribor. Yet even the most average of sides have a chance to punish us when we make so many silly unforced errors, misplaced passed & illogical substitutions.

Still hopeful for next week but we certainly need to take any chances we make & cut out the gifts.

    HH!

Gutted with the late goal conceded tonight but on reflection we are a much better team than Malmo and this tie can be won over there.

Yes, we were slack at both of their goals, could they have been prevented?? Of course they could but I believe we can go to Sweden and do a professional job, like we managed at Qarabag. It will, no doubt be another ‘nail biter’ next Tuesday but if we can get James Forrest running at them, like he did tonight and get the ball to Leigh, then we can score over there.

    Keep the Faith.

Hoping any of the bhoys who came off injured make a speedy recovery and are back in the hoops before long.

  9. Efe Ambrose is a terrible footballer.

Not good enough for St. Mirren let alone Celtic.

Johansen is a bit of a big head who thinks he is better than he is

Deserved his booking and his antics did not help before their 2nd….total clown.

  10. A potential back four of Ambrose, VVD, Boyata and Izzy is scary. Three players who have bombscare capabilities due to poor concentration.

  11. I have been a long time pragmatist, I regret that the actions of our board, mainly due to the sea we swim in, know we are big fish in a small pond and this has led to a scaling down of my dreams for our club.

We are never going to win a European trophy again in my lifetime, probably never even see a semi final. Such a shame, but that is where we are, our own board do know one thing though: they know that there are many thousands who still have dreams like I once did, or we have another gang who just want to beat the Orcs , no matter if it is a contest of two bald men fighting over a comb.

The propaganda from our own club suggests and at times tells us straight that we are on an upward trajectory. The results suggest otherwise, are Malmo a good team? Would Gordon Strachans team have disposed of them? If EL is our level , then level with your biggest cash cow, the support , don’t feed the dream factory and promise CL football on a El budget.

At some point the support will waken up. Sorry to report it will not be for a few years as the imminent return of the Manky Mob will keep the cashometer ticking over for a few more seasons.

The chase for 10 in a row will be the big thing as we conveniently forget why this will not be allowed to happen.

If Griffiths or Biton fail to make it, I will need Diazepam next week.

The positive is Grif. What a positive.

“Johansen is a bit of a big head who thinks he is better than he is”

How do you know that ?

  14. The investment in the team that was needed was another striker to help Leigh

Cifti is a project and needs time to develop

The last 15 minutes we had better players but no plan and no goal scorer on the park

Ronny I said it before and say it again

You are a rookie and it showed tonight

Malmö players are miles behind ours technically ,

  15. Celticrollercoaster supporting Shay, our bhoy wonder along the way on

Malmös confidence/arrogance may be their Achilles heel in the second game. All to play for with the Celts just in front. I will consider my position once the second leg is concluded, but bhoy don’t we make things hard.

    Griifiths is a must start.

It’s a sign of the total financial corruption in European football that Scotland and Sweden are struggling to place ONE team in the so called fucking European champions league!!

But then again I don’t really give a rats vagina any more

  17. Last post tonight from me.

60% possession but only 8 shots ain’t enough, especially when they had 10.

I see Simunovic of Zagreb was an unused sub tonight, based on that and the fact all fan reports from Zagreb say he is a dud, I hope the scouts are absolutely sure before we pursue him at 4 to 5 million euro.

On another note, given our ties with Dudu Dahan, I am lost as to why we haven’t been linked with Zahavi of Maccabi. Another 2 goals against Basel tonight and one of the best goal to games ratios in Europe.

  18. I watched the 3 they scored against red bull 1 was a swift move down their right they other 2were bad defending could be a partisan Belgrade again

  19. Well celtic have a game on there hands next Tuesday . Not beyond them , but it will be very difficult . Don’t think I’ve seen a celtic team who give possession away so often . I said at half time , celtic were giving themselves more problems than Malmö were , and that was down to giving the ball away cheaply . As I say , they can do it , but it’s gonna need a far better , and more disciplined performance than the one tonight .

  20. quonno

45,000 against ICT and Ross County is as good as it’ll get for the time being, Billy Connolly might even turn up but the celebrity majority shareholders don’t generally all games.

Celtic with no little or no TV revenue, just New Balance, and dwindling season tickets sales, would be punching above our weight to get into the CL, as the qualifiers have proved.

We’re just no very good in modern European terms, – if we draw in Stockholm we’ll get into Pot 4, and pinch some points here and there.

    That’s all folks csc

We backed off too much, again, few second ball winners cost us dear..

We played really well and then STOPPED…Incredible..

Naivety, mental immaturity ..Ronnie Needs to read the riot act..

James, who played well, fails to meet bounce of ball & boom, they’re up field and score..

95 mins? Get the ball UP in their half and don’t lose concentration or get petulant with the ref..

    Learning points..

    Can we go thru?

    Yes..

I’d have taken a one goal win at start..

    HH

  22. James Forrest

Outstanding performance, where have you been?

Play like that in Sweden and we will win over there

    HH

  23. Margaret McGill on

    Yeah

Malmos players are eons behind Celtic in understanding modern football tactics except of course Malmos scorer of both goals who must have learned his lethal goal prowess while on loan to Celtic and got lucky …… Errrrr ….. Are we for real ?

  24. THAT…

should have been 4 or 5 nil.

Malmo nowhere as competent as Carrierbag.

We held the CL groups in the palm of our hands then handed it back because we will not go for the throat.

At 2-0 most of their team were ready to hide and take a right beating.

We played percentages yet again and lost the 2nd half 2-1.

Sometimes in football you seize the moment and bury the opposition.

    We don’t.

    We didn’t.

They got off death row and will come at us knives out in Sweden.

What a chance we had to kill the tie tonight. But the mentality was all off-kilter. Too nice.

    Get ruthless, Celtic.

Having watched the replay just to make sure, both their goals were down to our bad defending so that stat gives me no comfort.

  26. Captain Beefheart on

Margaret. The system is bad but no excuses. M Platini has helped us. W just needt to defeat dross each year. Sadly our board are too conservative.i Am tired ofbeing patronised about our great support. I want folk to admire our team as well.

  27. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

    Interesting fact………

Both their goals came directly after handbags between players and/or ref.

  28. the long wait is over on

    Rummybhoy

“Johansen is a bit of a big head who thinks he is better than he is”

I don’t know about that but getting involved in that nonsense at the corner at the death was stupid and

    affected our concentration.

  29. Been a long time since I’ve felt so down after a win. At 2-0 and with Johansen straight through, the game was over. Now that injury time goal (which had been coming for about 10 minutes at least) has probably handed them the advantage.

Positives: Griff, Forest (best game for us?), Lustig (hope its not bad), VVD (now dreading selling him). Armstrong competed well, as did Broon for 70- minutes.

But our subs really let us down. Cifti? WTF? Ambrose – aargh!!!

And Izzy’s time is surely up. Never a defender in a million years and one of the worst crossers of a ball I’ve seen. He’s such an obvious weak link every opposing manager targets him.

As for Jo Berget. A coward. He didn’t try a leg for us, but showed tonight he’s a good footballer. Sickening.

Still, a draw sends us through. No doubt their childish manager will spend the next six days telling us how rubbish we were. Truth is, his team are incredibly fortunate to be still alive.

And nice to see the old place full again…

  30. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    the long wait is over

    “affected our concentration”

Did it really ? Was that you (not) marking Berget then ?

  31. Well, I don’t expect much uptake on my comment….but here it is.

First, in the interests of transparency, I was at the game. This us unusual for me, living in Canada, where I watch the games on the big screen at my local CSC.

I see that most comments tonight are focused on individual mistakes. I thought that the Malmo coach won the tactical battle over Ronny.

We play with a 2 Man central midfield. Most people would agree that Briwn and Biton are among our best players.

Tonight, after the 20 minute whirlwind passed, Malmo squeezed our misfield two. Rarely, if at all, were either if them able to turn and carry the ball at Malmo.

The worst coaches are the inflexible ones. A 3 man midfield ensures that they are all close to each other, can bail each other out and firm a central defensive core.

Malmo won the tactical battle, and it was evident every time the ball got played back to Boyata. All Malmo had to do was wait for the misplaced pass.

    Just my 2 cents..,

    Ronnie
