  1. Thought their no. 24 Elyounoussi (?) looked a great wee player. How come our super scout can’t find us one like him? Probably cost a fraction of what Ciftci cost, and Scepovic, and Bangura, and Balde, and Pukki etc etc

  2. CultsBhoy likes living wage hates heated driveways on

last night exposed what we all know – the defence is shocking.

We all knew VVD and Denayer were leaving a year ago.

    We did not mitigate this.

Somebody has to take responsibility .

    Good work.

NEVER FORGET THIS…..that mob would be hounding us right now, through every courtroom, media outlet, Uefa and the Hampden network, to not only have our trophies stripped, but transferred to Ibrox and elsewhere.

Tax dodging Her Majesty’s Revenues to win trophies ? Can you imagine the fallout if it was CFC?

This is the main event, not Ronny Delia. Lets not takes our eye off it. They want to move on and let it go, but they are panicking big time .

If our board don’t take this on, its a the ‘back of the bus ‘scenario. I won’t go back.

You know we signed Mo Sylla after he played well against us

By the way, I don’t think Scepovic and Pukki were terrible players. We just didn’t know what to do with them. Not that you get much patience at CP.

When the formula is wrong there is no chance of arriving at the correct answer.

To help us get results in Europe we have a manager who has settled for being told who will be signed by a board looking at players now SOLELY as investments. To compound things he is tactically naive and slow to change(Maribor, Malmo etc).

A good manager has his basic philosophies ingrained withing a very short timeframe(~2 months) and the rest is a work in progress. Look at the immediate improvement Klopp has made at Liverpool, MON made with us etc.

Celtic players look confused and bereft of ideas. GMS, Cifcti, Blackett, Boyata, Ambrose, Stokes, Johansen and McGregor should all be shown the door asap and replaced with 3 signings of higher quality down the spine of the team. I’d recall O’Connell and Henderson as both are better than the garbage we have been putting up with.

I’d love to know what the tipping point is for some people but it seems that no progress in a year and a half and humiliation against European teams with a fraction of our budget doesn’t necessarily mean theres anything to be concerned about, in the eyes of some.

We’re a big club – we don’t act like one. If we did, there’d have been a shortlist of new managerial candidates on the table after the Malmo debacle.

  6. Honestly some of you just can’t wait, you don’t like the coach fine your choice, as far as I can make out we’ve still got a chance, Molde are carrying a lot of luck and good for them, I wish them all the best, things just ain’t falling for RD, he is not getting any breaks, IE from the media, or the Celtic trust guys in here who use him as a stick to hit DD and PL on the bases that he was a cheap option, and that’s a fact don’t let them kid you, they feed of that stuff (faithful through an through?) the difference between them and me is, I support Celtic through and through with no agendas and no end game, they on the other hand are never happy, and above criticism, and think they are the end all and be all, and are the spokesperson for every Celtic fan, well I’m afraid I’ll never be in among with a banner I’ll tell you that right now, in my opinion the Celtic Trust are bad for our club, but a godsend for the SMSM., oh, like it or not I am allowed it.

The battered bunnet has nailed the style of play and defensive issues.

Awe naw I can’t see why we need Rangers. You may be saying Desmond et al think we do but we had and perhaps still have an opportunity to develop Celtic as a European competitor.

The strategy should have been to earn as much as possible to reinvest in the team. Instead we set up to our weakness and get beaten soundly.

Ronny may not ever get the chance to put his team in the park. I get the impression P67 is setting him up with a Fortune type excuse to sack him. P67 banged on about Mowbray insisting on Fortune being signed and how that signed his death warrant. The undertone of the Simunovic deal is that Deila insisted on it. If you believe that Deila has nothing to do with player recruitment he is blameless. If you believe Deila sanctions player recruitment or had a big say in who comes in he had brought in the 3 from Dundee United, plays Tierney, Blackett, Boyata, simunovic, Janko.

That’s 8 players.add in Cole and you have 9. Cole isn’t ready, he may be but why is he picking up a salary to play in the SPL when we could be developing Ciftci signed for a substantial fee or a boy from the reserves.

He inherited Gordon and Johansen presumably is his type of player given previous relationship.

11 players already. A whole new defence, a couple of midfielders and two strikers.

He took 6 years to win the Norwegian league but each year saw incremental improvements. He was working with a very small team punching above its weight. Understandably it takes time to do that but I can’t imagine he rotated 11 players every year!

He was very clear that he thought each one of our players were better than Molde. He also stated he did not watch the first game again.

He has had enough time to create his team unless he is being forced to take who he is given… However, if that is the argument, to then take players you didn’t want because you thought they couldn’t play the system you want is just stupidity.

He has been unlucky with Simunovic but why did we sign yet another loan signing in Blacket. That is another hole to be filled next season.

Boyata is frankly the worst centre half I have seen in a Celtic shirt since Paul McGuigan.

Last summer he inherited Craig Gordon.

  8. TIMALOY29 on 6TH NOVEMBER 2015 10:36 AM

Bad scouting. Scepovic played in a counter attacking team, Pukki was a reserve player who hadn’t done much at Schalke. Our best strikers during the moneyball years have been those bought from UK clubs. Griffiths, Hooper, even Stokes in his earlier years with us. We bring in players who look good in a certain system and try to shoehorn them into how we play.

We did nothing to mitigate it? We signed a player for seven million!

You do realize that you are looking at signings with the benefit of hindsight right?

Everybody makes bad signings. It’s the same for every club that has a bad run of results. Armchair scouts will pick out every bad signing as if it was obvious to everybody at the time.

Your right, neither Pukki or Scepovic fitted in to how we play. We don’t get time at Celtic to develop a way of playing and have players adjust.

People have no patience. We have had a bad run in Europe and some fans will want the manager, the players and the whole board out the door.

Cause sacking is always the answer!

  14. mullet and co 2 on

Peter Lawwell will have Bitton and Griffiths at the top of his saleable assets to fill the Rangers hole.

Griffiths probably worth about £5m at the moment to an English championship side. Button needed a good Europa to go for a big sum. Should make £10m from these two … Not that I’m advocating that but we will and then we’ll have John Park replacing them with a couple of projects with limited first team experience.

In MON’s first season we went out of the UEFA cup against Bordeaux. Getting beat at CP.

    Hardly the stuff of legends.

  18. Gunner Solskjaer in his post match interview last night when asked about the demise of Celtic as a team to be reckoned with in Europe he hesitated before answering that it was a lack of competition in the domestic league and of course missing the presence of Rangers – what a bleak outlook this was for Scottish football.

I have often argued . that the SPL was not as weak as perceived by some people and could always cite Celtic’s admirable performances on the European stage. Molde are currently in seventh place in a sixteen team league with the population of Norway tipping the 5million mark, and obviously the domestic competition they play in is far superior to the SPL.

Perhaps the top teams from the League of Ireland like Dundalk, Cork and Shamrock Rovers could now comfortably compete in the SPL in it’s current state. I never Thought I would see the day when I would make such a statement.

away team : right lads that was really poor … but … this team can only play one way we can do them at celtic park…..so lets stick to the plan…..cue players looking at each other ..then the floor ..then the ceiling…

home team ; well done that was great … this team can only play one way so same again at celtic park

and it’s last 16 …cue players high fiving and singing here we go..here we go…

  20. I can’t agree with you who say Biton is a potential multi million pound sale!

He can see a pass but needs too much room, the quality of his passing, like last night is, is hugely variable, and he lacks physical strength and pace.

Now that he’s signed his 5 year contract his form will most likely dip.

Well, that’s what usually happens with us.

Oh and he’s not very good in the air.

Please form an orderly queue to tell me I’m talking pish.

  21. TIMALOY29 on 6TH NOVEMBER 2015 10:48 AM

Of course it’s with the benefit of hindsight. However a scout is paid to find players that will improve us, will fit into how we play and yes there will always be good signing and bad signings. But when the same mistake is made time and time again, in this instance the scouting and signing of strikers who were not good enough, then shouldn’t something be done about it or do we carry on with the lets take a punt, scatter gun approach of recent years.

It’s like making the same defensive mistakes on the pitch time and time again, should we not expect something to be done about it?

  22. Celtic used to produce centre- halfs as if off a production line, e.g. McNeil, Cushley & Mc Namee.

Now we have one that looks like he’s made of porcelain and two centre backs who cannot header a ball.

  23. Defence is the key to winning in Europe – and we don’t have one right now. A settled back four is the ultimate goal and injuries haven’t allowed that, but we should at least have a system to allow replacements to slot in.

Simunovic getting injured early on was a real blow. But we’d been told all week that he was 50/ 50 at best so the possibility of his having to go off was there. A contingency plan should have been in place – was it? Was Blackett expecting to be the one to come on? Didn’t seem like it to me.

The two goals we lost were both extremely preventable. In both cases we won the first header but neither cleared the ball properly and we failed to react to a secondary threat, Do we have defenders who simply aren’t used to being asked to defend?

One bright spot, as plenty have said, is our young left back. He showed desire, strength, pace and positioning. Well played Kieran.

  24. Anyone know how these bhoys are doing.

    Fisher ?

MON took over from John Barnes at a seriously low ebb and won a treble against EBT ridden Rangers. There were signs of progress we are NOT seeing now.

You say the “same mistakes” are made time and time again. But we have signed some good players have we not?

Secondly, it’s sometimes down to the manager and the player to integrate into the squad. I think it’s fair to say that our criteria for strikers was lacking because we signed a couple of guys who were barely football players (Balde and Bangoura)

Some responsibility has to fall on the coach for Scepovic and Pukki. Did you see Rasmussen score and put Southampton out of the Europa? It can happen.

    I liked Rasmussen!

I was sorry he didn’t get a run in the side.

    But what do I know.

  29. traditionalist88

Yes, MON got the job with rock bottom expectations. There was no outrage when we got dumped out of Europe.

MON did get plenty of money from the board. As P67 had said, we were spending more than we could afford under MON. He also inherited a certain number 7.

Football was different 15 years ago. We could sign players like Chris Sutton. Do you think we would get a sniff at him in 2015?

  30. If Johansen had put away that sitter when we were 2-0 up against Malmo in 15 minutes we’d currently be losing by record scores in the Champions League.

We beat Qarabag with one goal over two legs, conceding none, and looking likely to concede none. VVD played then but he also played against Malmo so it’s not just losing our best player.

We have two issues. One is a clear contrast to last year’s ever present partnership of VVD and Denayer. Actually with Izzy we’d a permanent 3 from 4. Imperfections but stable enough. Right side became an issue with Lustig in and out and Matthews injured/poor.

This year we have last year’s right back issue across the whole back 4 and the ensuing chaos. The manager cannot create stability and understanding, that takes games together. How can he create those games together when every time he puts someone on the roundabout they bump into everyone else knocking them off. Sadly we do not have anyone to include in a back 4 that looks as if he can either stay fit or control their football tourettes. Tierney excepted of course.

Secondly we have no protection. We defend with a back 4 and only a back 4. Brown and Bitton drop back (and Johansen) to collect the ball and on the face of it provide that cover but the reality is they fancy themselves as the libero, pivote, Lothar Mattheus, but none of these players bar a few 70 yard chases from Brown actually close down attacks or command the area in front of the back 4. And I’m afraid to say it but Craig is a wonderful shot stopper, nothing more. He organises nothing, screams at no one, commands no crosses.

Yet we utterly dominate the domestic league. It’s like me playing my 7 year old at chess all week in preparation to play a Gary Kasparov.

No point changing a manager and replacing him with another until the policy of ripping the heart out of your team every summer changes. In the bigger picture the gulf between Scottish Football and European competition is no longer bridged by Celtic, we have been cut adrift. If Ronny is able to steady the back 4 personnel for next year then the increment to qualify from the Europa league would be achieved, possibly CL qualifiers. No manager will actually do more than that with the structure of our football as it is.

    ======

Totally irrelevant mate. I’m only talking about signs of progress, we all know football has changed.

However, our budget remains many times that of the teams we are losing to in Europe.

We panic when we are ahead, there is no direction from the manager, the players are confused and we have thrown leads away against Maribor, Malmo, Ajax, Fenerbache.

And when we fall behind the body language of the players tells you all you need to know about our chances of getting back into it.

The manager is the most important guy at the club and he is not a) strong enough or b) a good tactician and that is why the evidence is mounting up against him.

    HH

  35. Kasparov would probably beat all the Molde players at chess, at once, playing blindfold.
