If you think I post drivel fair enough, but RD like Lenny has had players foisted on him.

A few years ago the club told the world that the path they were going down was to identify young talent, bring them on and sell for a profit.

This is done by using your scouting network, the scouts find the players for the coach to coach, the coach has his remit, he is not involved in scouting or identifing players, it’s how 99% of clubs in europe work, it’s the way Celtic work, gone are the days of a manager bringing in his players, failing and a massive clear out of manager and players, it’s the sensible way ahead, one that I agree with, one that saves the club serious money in the long term, re player aquisition.

The problem is the choice of coach and the choice of players being brought in.

The coach is not getting the type of players he wants to fit his system and the players are not to the standard that we require imo.

This needs to be changed, or it will carry on the downward spiral.

Being beat is part of football but aiding and abetting the opposition is absurd .

Last night was a shambles.Molde played Rope A Dope .If you want to revisit an example of the Dopeyness have a look at the movement and ” the defending ” just before the sending off..Primary 1 playground stuff..

Beautiful sunny , low 20s day – way down south .

  4. I like Ronny and I think he is a good man who has been sorely let down. Do not get me wrong I thought last night was a nightmare. We seemed to have no plan B again. Added to that is the lack of fiight or desire and we have had some teams in the past that have not been full of class layers but they all had fight and desire. I have seen us played off the park by some fanatistic european teams and we have just had to take our hats off to them but at least we put up a fight. Last night we just seem to accepted defeat and by the middle of the second half we were a shambles.

The lack of spirit in the team is summed up by the CH he may reallyhave been hurt but it looked like a simple tap on the ankle. Either he is not up for it or if his injury was likely to occur with the first challenge he should not have been on. My own opinion get rid!

Ronny must take some blame for the tactics and for not having after all this time done something with the defence which will lose goals at anytime in any competition. Also having been beaten quite decisively now by a host of ‘inferior’ teams in the last 2 European campaigns it is right that questions should be asked about RD.

However I do feel he has been let down badly by those above and below him. The board has obviously let him down by the quality of player that we are attracting for him to put on the pitch. How we ever thought that some of these guys were good enough for the shirt beggars belief. On the assummtion they were purchased for him or they were only what he could afford both point to culpability by the board. The bottom line is that all these so called european minnows have a fraction of our budget. Remember Molde are 6th in the Nowegian League! Give him some decent players to work with.

I think he has also been badly let down by his players. Some are just not delivering on the park. RD must accept the flak for not seeming to have a plan B but looking at that bench last night there were not that many game changing options sitting there. Admittably Ronny should have sorted that defence out by now if not with personnel but at least tactically. This is an obvious failing. Hoever there are obviously some drama queens in the dressingroom and if the manager does not have the respect of the players it makes for an unhappy team. An unhappy team cannot be successful. The show of petulance in Norway is an example. I know there was an apology but young players look up to older guys in the dressingroom and that type of behaviour can soon become acceptable away from the cameras. Perhaps Ronny is too nice but surely he has JC and JK as enforcers.

In the final analysis this is a results business to have two cliques in one sentance. The buck does istop with the manager and perhaps Ronny’s time is coming to an end. However it is not all his fault and some of those structural problems that need sorted will not be remedied by just by changing the manager.

  5. The sms now going into overdrive to save the tainted titles. No matter they were found guilty of cheating. The indignity of it all.

  6. Sleeping on last night has not helped, like many others I do not think these results are down to one problem, what we do seem to have is a collection of players with no heart for the fight in Europe,we lack experience in the coaching and management side of the club and changes need to be made here and now. When your star man is Kieran Tierney and very well done to him it shows who will stand up and play for the jersey and the support, an eighteen year old and veteran of about three games,we loan or release players who are better than what we keep Fisher to st Johnstone when it is clear lustig is crocked Irvine to Kilmarnock now Ross county anyone tell me he could not offer something to this team, they never got a chance the model of park lawwell has failed and cannot continue we need a streetwise man in charge of the team who will fight his corner for the team and get us organised we are a gutless shambles on the park in europe

I’m genuinely intrigued at the pospect of Paul67’s take on last night. Paul67 is a ( if not the) leading Cyber Celtic supporter and manages a difficult balance between fans and Celtic PLC Board. On the evidence of CQN – he does this well in the main. Key to this success is his ability to pick out the positives when the chips are down.

Other than Kieren Tierney – there were no positives from last night.

Today is a day of reckoning – it is amazing that it is still mathematically possible that we can get 2nd place -which is perhaps a 2nd positive but that is down to other teams not Delia or Lawwell.

Id love to hear P67’s honest take on Lawwell – pal or no pal.

  8. Honestly, looking at the defense that played last night we can’t expect to do anything in the Europa League.

It kind of reminds me of that season under Lenny when we had to play the likes of Rennes and went out in the group stages. It was a learning process and we had a good season in the CL the next year.

  9. TO THE CLETIC BOARD:

    Dear Sirs

It is with a heavy heart and some trepidation that I write to you.

I write in the wake of the recent Court of Session ruling that Rangers FC (IL) was guilty of a massive tax swindle over a lengthy period, prior to its going bust in 2012.

In the first instance, I would like to urge Celtic PLC (on behalf of its many shareholders and many more fans), to seek the immediate correction of the record of trophies and titles illicitly ‘won’ by Rangers FC (IL) during the period dealt with by the HMRC investigation.

Further, I think it is incumbent on Celtic (along with all the member clubs of the SFA – all of whom have been impacted by this massive deception) to insist that those now found to have been behind this deception (including those at the SFA who assisted in this fraud – by deed or omission) be brought to book for their part in the matter.

I would remind the Celtic Board that the SFA saw fit to ban Craig Whyte* for life from any involvement in football, for demonstrably lesser offences than have now been exposed by the HMRC’s diligence.

On a separate but related matter, I would like to take the opportunity to comment on the on-going farce regarding the treatment of the club currently playing football at Ibrox (’The Rangers Football Club’): like any other clear thinking football fan, I am baffled and (frankly) insulted at this sham that is being allowed to persist, to wit that this new club is somehow a continuation of the club which folded in 2012.

For crying out loud, if it wants to be considered the same club and wants to retain the old club’s titles and trophies, let it pay its debts, since they are every bit as much of its history as its titles, trophies or decades long sectarian signing policy. From my perspective, the SFA member clubs must take the opportunity – on the back of this ruling – to make it clear that the old club folded, weighed down by reckless management and its debts to society.

I have been a lifelong Celtic fan and have spent (perhaps too) much money and emotion on following my team, but I must say that on the back of this Court of Session ruling I have – for the first time – really questioned my commitment to following the game of football in Scotland and, thereby, Celtic.

I dearly love to follow Celtic, but am convinced that I and many thousands of football fans across the country will be watching very carefully to see how (Celtic and the other) members clubs respond to this situation.

If it appears that the opportunity is not taken to right this huge wrong – in a clear and unambiguous fashion – then I don’t think I will be alone in reluctantly turning to other pastimes in which to invest my time, money and emotions.

I look forward to your reply …

With the apparent exception of the Rule dealing with failure to respect an SFA Tribunal, these same rules must now be levied against (at the very least) Messrs David Murray, Campbell Ogilvie, David King, Paul Murray – not to mention several of the more junior officials of Rangers FC (IL) who served on football’s governing body relevant committees over the period in question.

Ronny is the new Ebbe Skovdahl …

I remember Ebbe as a guy folk really liked at Aberdeen and a guy who genuinely loved football but ultimately could not deliver results…

  11. Poor management decisions contributed to our substandard performance last night. One of which was bringing on Tyler Blackett. Why bring another Rookie on in such an important must win game? His debut v Aberdeen was enough for me to judge the lad, he was all over the place. However last night was not all down to that one decision, though how many pro games have KT & Blackett had between them? Tierney was done no favours with having to play next to him for most of the game (kudos to the kid). Efe is much maligned but surely Ronny had to go with experience, he was the only choice after losing Siminuovic so early.

This is just one example but it’s decisions like these that leaves you scratching your head. Naive tactics is one thing but Ronny’s poor game management is something else that has been exposed time & time again.

Would like to see us sound out WGS, as its surely a matter of when & not if for RD?

  12. Going or seeing the game and giving your opinion is fine, but a lot of Bloggers like to read what other supporters thought , even the drivel, rule breaking however spoils any Blog , let alone this one. People are allowed to express an opinion, yes, even if it’s a negative Celtic one. But when you are almost becoming the equivalent of knocking on people’s doors, and telling them not to support Celtic, it’s time for another wee look in your mirror.

Some fascinating posts from the usual suspects. not surprisingly, an interesting question posed by Auldheid, “ How would Celtic get on in the Norwegian League? Would Molde or Rosenborg be ‘fodder’ where the Celtic fan thinks, will next pop up, in Ross County.

You could argue Rosenborg are in more of a one horse race than Celtic have been in since 2012, but it’s a fact Ronny Deila beat them and Molde for fun, with Stromgodset. How would Ross County fair against Stromgodset?

The more Ronny Deila’s poor Euro record continues the further former daily clichés will go, “domestic dominance” “top of the league” “champions” and “kings of Scottish football.” “one team for Europe and one team for the SPL “. All regular daily fare not so long ago, despite who?, was beating who in Europe.

Cup football even in a round robin event is still Cup football and when you play a team from a different culture regardless of how you are set out , in any variant of eleven players, you have to defend beyond a basic level.

Celtic don’t , but haven’t really consistently excluding 1967 to 1972 and any Euro football thoughts are defeated before you start. In the SPL at the moment we’re usually so far ahead over the marathon defending doesn’t matter, so much. Cup football is different and it’s another reason why there is a dearth of the ‘Celtic treble.’

Simple, we don’t know how to defend, ( it’s included in the high pressing game theorist’s handbook ) and that’s backed up this season with whirl winding Malmo, Ajax, and Fenerbache before being, pegged back when the opposition, soon find the Achilles. Ronny Deila is a good manager, the fact he’s not considered good enough for some including all real Celtic enemies, should be enough to make the internet supporters draw in their horns, but sadly propaganda is an effective weapon.

If he wasn’t and still isn’t your choice blame our men of reverie, whom we are told fancied Roy ( Mad Dhog ) Keane but he preferred to inevitably assist in abject failure at Villa Park, or maybe Jackie Mc, who soon got bulleted from Hill Town. We can change lots of things at Celtic, especially managers, major shareholders and CEO’s tend to be able to hang around, a lot longer.

“Norwegian dud”, “Norwegian diddy”, casual racism,? reminds me of The Daily Record headline on the appointment of Josef Venglos – “DUD CZECH”, so if you are booing inside, or out of Celtic Park remember you’re sleeping with the enemy.

The BT Euro Sport coverage continues to break new ground and provide a welcome hiatus from Scottish Sky’s EBT funded tedious anti Celtic agenda. The highlights show was all Celtic in Scotland. Chris Sutton’s comments are very high on the scale blatantly obvious to hysterical, but he’s Celtic through and through. Great to see a well Stillian, who like someone on CQN, questioned the Celtic players level of fitness? Gordon Strachan completed the BT trio of Celtic legends, and as usual hit the nail on the head with ‘he’s worried that a mid table Norwegian side could beat Celtic home and away” When he met his Euro Waterloo in Artemedia at 5-0 at least he had the comprehension, of how to cuff them 4-0 in the return.

The English panel were also excellent and pinpointed our one horse race but when revered, Redknapp has to remind Scotland that “Celtic are massive, and them supporters are massive” you hope Dermot wasn’t away playing golf somewhere. Ronny Deila was and remains the only show in town, he still gets, and he won the Celtic gig, hands down.

If you want real change see what the great man Dermot Desmond will take for his shares, if he sells succulent SMSM will herald you as a Sugar Daddy …………..…………….oh wait?

You were on here last year complaining about the fans booing at the Maribor game last season, in fact you went as far as to claim their booing at half time influenced the result in that game

This morning, in the face of yet another inept European performance, you again rail against fans booing

I don’t agree with fans booing, it’s a waste of energy, but let’s be clear here the fans are not the problem at Celtic

Those guys who booed last night did not do so because they’ve been swayed by an anti-Celtic msm agenda as you would have it

I guess they booed because they saw the same mistakes being made yet again to average European opposition who operate under far tighter constraints than we do

Those fans were treated to Blackett chanelling the spirit and the DNA of Mark McNally, Davie McPherson, George weah’s cousin, gus caesar, ally Brazil and rafael scheidt in what was a truly horrific performance

Who on earth is responsible for bringing such a character to Celtic park?

It’s not the fans or the msm that’s for sure

  14. CultsBhoy likes living wage hates heated driveways on

I admire Strachan’s record at Celtic but I hated the style of football he introduced – I would not want to see him back under any circumstances – but I thought he was giving a sly pitch for the job yesterday in his punditry – he was gushing about what a great place Celtic park is and how well they look after managers.

I’d much rather see Lennon given a second stint – I could buy in to Lennon.

  15. It was inevitable that Van Dijk would leave. The reality is we’re a selling club. But the problem was compounded by having a loan player, Denayer, as VvD’s defensive partner. What is the point of Celtic taking players on loan. If they are good like Denayer we won’t be able to keep them. If they are crap like Blackett, we won’t want to keep them. Why bring in Blackett and loan out O’Connell?

Ajax are also a selling club. Let’s hope we do it their way and develop our own players. I think Ronny wants to do this … if given the time. I’d rather see us lose with Janko and Nesbitt in the team instead of the injury-prone Lustig and the lazy unfit Commons.

  16. Exactly why SHOULD we be beating Molde or Malmo or Quarabag?

They are strong athletic teams with good technical ability. If we cannot see that then we are missing a big part of the jig saw apart from the arrogance in that perception.

If Celtic played like either would we be an happier?

If so then why are we not up to the same athletic and technical standard?

I’ve seen games where we seem to be but that is against other Scottish clubs whom I think Molde or Malmo would beat more comfortably than they did us. As Italia Boy points out there were injury factors that did not help us not forgetting a couple of good saves and Griffiths miss ( just before Bitton got sent off I think.)

I would like to see stats on height weight and number of consecutive games together of Molde and Malmo to see if part of our problem is in the physical area and how much churn they have had.

I’m not saying either is a great team but they have achieved the qualification we have not (barring EL miracle) and even if we get humped like Malmo did at least, on a budget a lot less than ours, they are getting well rewarded for the privilege.

I’m patient because it took me two years to build an amateur team from scratch that then rose two divisions in succession to the top one. That is the nature of football and our problem is that in RD’s second season we still don’t have a settled spine or enough players we can depend on to turn out week on week.

Own up how many groaned when Simonovic went off? I did. That kind of thing can be a game changer and has to be taking into account once the emotions right after a game have died down.

Economics drive Celtic’s strategy I don’t like it but until something is done to change that then we have to find an economical way of beating teams of Molde and Malmo standard.

Playing against them and other teams they play against week in week out seems an obvious if difficult way ahead.

Until we get ourselves in that position everything else is deck chair arranging. Some days the chair will be in the sun other days it won’t.

Any idea why Janko wasn’t on the bench last night?

He could have come on for Simo-(Simulatedinjury)-with Lustig moving to CH.

We seemed light on defensive cover on the bench last night, bearing in mind a likelihood of him not finishing.

Still, all those midfielders we have deserve a look-in now and again.

  18. It took RD six years to win the league in Norway, six years to mould his team, six years of bringing in HIS choice of players to get the blend right, and in doing so, it was no fluke.

Problem is he won’t even get six games at Celtic.

  19. 79caps

I think its funny that you say Blackett is crap and Denayer was good

Denayer made a few errors in his early games and we had a few on here saying he should be dropped. Blackett has barely played at CB so far and its certainly more difficult being thrown in with Boyata than VVD.

  20. Maybe it’s time for disgruntled Celtic fans to let The Great Desmondo know how they feel.

The proper venue to do so would of course be the AGM, but as he’s unlikely to attend maybe they could make their feelings known at his other public appearances ie at the races or on the golf course.

  22. The Battered Bunnet on

There’s a world of difference between Unlucky and Inept.

    Take last night for example.

It was unlucky to lose Simunovic after 3 minutes. Injuries happen, and Simunovic got injured. Whether it was a recurrence of his injury from the weekend, or an unrelated consequence of the challenge on him, is unknown. If the former, Ronny took a punt and lost – unlucky. If the latter, unlucky. Them’s the breaks. You roll with the punches.

Ronny had a decision to make there and then. I suspect it had crossed his mind that Simunovic may not last the game, and had already decided that Blackett would substitute, but nevertheless, he had a choice between Ambrose and Blackett, and chose Blackett. That was the call.

We’ve no idea how Efe might have played, but the combination of Blackett and Boyata looked for all the world as though two guys had been picked out of the crowd and given a jersey.

It’s not unlucky that two centre backs don’t know how to play together. It’s inept.

We started the game fairly well. It’s unlucky that we had 2 goals ruled out for offside in the first 15 minutes. From what I can gather, both decisions were correct, but it’s unlucky. On another day, in another match…

From that point on, our unluck started to run out, and we substituted it with ineptness.

We clear a cross to the edge of the box, and watch on as defenders watch our midfielders watch on as the Molde player takes the ball down, has a look, and shoots. Goal.

We play Commons on the right, in an advanced position ahead of Lustig. Commons, whether by instruction or beligerance, plays beside the centre forward for most of the first half, leaving Lustig with the job of 2 men. Fair play to Lustig for nearly carrying it off, but really.

I hear (unreliable) word to the effect that Commons popped his hamstring, hence why he was replaced at half time. It would be unlucky to lose another player to injury, and perhaps Commons played in that position for so long because it meant running less, but for 30 minutes of the first half we had just one player on the right (Lustig) and three in front & centre, with a fourth – Armstrong on the left – inclined towards the centre too. Malmo were able to break into the space accordingly, and with Boyata and Blackett doing a Francie & Josie routine, Malmo ddn’t struggle to attack when the opportunity presented itself. Both Lustig and Tierney saved goals in fraught situations.

None of that is unlucky. It’s inept.

We clear a corner to the edge of the box, and watch on as the defence watches the midfield watch on as the ball is returned to the back post without challenge. Blackett, outside the front post, watches the tussle at the far post while Molde’s 40 year old centre mid walks past him, and then outmuscles him a yard out to score.

    That’s really not unlucky.

It is perhaps unlucky that Griffiths had an ‘off night’. He had chances that ordinarily he would take. His touch was clumsy. It wasn’t his game. But it wasn’t Nir Bitton’s game either. Or Stefan Johansen’s. Or Kris Commons’. Or Stuart Armstrong’s.

In the first half we had Tierney, Rogic and Lustig performing.

In the second half we had Tierney.

It’s not unlucky to have an 18 year old left back emerge as a significant player. Quite the contrary.

It’s inept for pretty much an entire team of senior players to be unable or unwilling to perform to the same standard.

After the poor, poor show in Malmo, and the disappointment of our ineptitude in that match translating to Champions League exclusion, I had hoped that Ronny would be able to work with the team, new players and old, and make progress.

Since then – and we lost 4 goals to Malmo over 2 legs – we’ve lost a futher 9 goals in 4 Europa League matches. We’re losing 2 goals or more per game.

We’re learning nothing from one game to the next, or one lesson to the next. Over the course of more than 4 months of European football, comprising 10 fixtures, we’ve learned nothing that can be evidenced from performances and results.

We lose the same goals the same way, match after match. Corner kicks. Break aways. Back post absence. The sense is that the management team are convinced that their approach to defending MUST work, and are bewildered that it doesn’t. They persist with the same shape, the same function, the same (dis)organisation. Surely our bad luck defending must end soon?

And we continue to lose goals.

It appears from the evidence of numerous matches that, whether we have the players or not, we have a management team that simply doesn’t understand the fine art of defending.

And that, I’m afraid, is Inept.

  23. Timaloy29

I agree that VvD made it easier for Denayer but I just can’t see any ability in Blackett. Denayer got into the Belgian national team because he performed so well for Celtic. I was really surprised that Ronny didn’t bring on Efe last night, but he will no doubt have had his reasons.

  24. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

For Celtic to be prepared to move to another league it needs three things. It needs to be lucrative, it needs to have the Old Firm and it needs to be British.

In fact that is THEE only reason that DD is involved. You know the guy that calls ALL the shots.

PL is aware that as long as he delivers a profit. European ambition is secondary. We are a selling club. We will always win the SPL and have an entry to Europe.

Whether we qualify is dependent on risk.

But it is not important as we have sacraficed our home European Record and reputation for safety.

23 years without European football after xmas is acceptable if an invite to the EPL comes. Until then we will sell them our best players and make a small profit

That is why we are fundamentally an Old Firm club.

    Everyrhing else is just fantasy

  25. Norweigan football is ranked higher than Scottish football in UEFA rankings (24th and improving to 25th and declining). Provisional rankings for next season has Norway moving up to the Top 20 whilst we will remain around the 24th/25th mark. In the 10 years since Rosenburg completed their 13th successive title 6 different teams have won their league. They play in a competitive league that is of a higher standard than ours, competition leads to improvement, domination leads to complacency.

Their international team are also still in with a chance of qualifying for the Euros next summer.

What are they doing right that we are not?

  26. Looks like the board went behind Ronnys back a fortnight ago and foisted Bitton on him for the next 4 years

Denayer could head the ball further than five yards. Blackett can’t. He’s been caught repeatedly in this.

In fact,Denayer could head it further than Blackett can trap it.

    (Thank,Brian.)

I said earlier I don’t want to scapegoat Blackett, there were many last night who were shocking. But if he has played to his ability so far,I fear for his future in the game.

  28. Height weight and athleticism ???? We had all that in the back 4 last night but yet a 40 year old who should really be playing fives still managed to outmuscle them.

  29. Not really commented about result

    We are where we are

    But what do we do

Actually in an amazing position where we can rescue the position in EL. But we must

    1. Remove PL bring in a temp GM who can look after the business side of the club

    2. Look for a temp coach one who at least understands European football and tactics

Ronny can say as much as he wants. Ajax at home and Turks away If he is in charge with schoolboy tactics forget it

Dermot knows that the Celtic AGM is where disgruntled Celtic fans get to complain about the ridiculous number of staples, that waste all the nice pictures in the Celtic View.

    Aye. Very good.

Maybe they discussed summer recruitment with him too. Like, three words.

    ‘Here they are.’

Btw,I understand that in your case 1888 in your moniker refers to the starting point on your meter?

  32. Can’t really blame ronnie for not putting on efe, his confidence is gone along time ago and he is always going to make a big mistake.

Blackett was a choice of 2 bad players .. I doubt ambrose would have played as bad but if he was at fault for a goal people would be saying should have played Blackett.

Get janko on and move lustig to centre half for few games.

  33. Is Janko injured? He hasn’t even featured on the bench for weeks.

Scott Allan returns to the bench on Saturday yet disappears last night as we have three defenders and no midfielders on the bench.

You can’t throw a young inexperienced players in a defence where they have hardly played together and expect them to play at their optimum.

I remember Denayer making mistakes, I remember Virgil making mistakes and I remember Wanyama making mistakes. Blackett has barely had a chance.

When your making your debut, would you rather be next to Boyata or VVD?

Subtle undertone to your post,or I’m reading it wrong.

Commons ignored instructions and played where he preferred. When questioned about it at HT,his reply was-I scored, didn’t I-and as a result was subbed.

Might explain a bit about how shite we were in the second half.

I would keep Peter Lawell and bring in a Director of football who has as much clout as he has. Millionaires tend to be conceited bassas who think that they know everything due to the importance they place on making even more money.
