  1. This was up there with Wee GS TB Naka impossible league title win and the rest…

It’s only one game and only three points but…

Hail Hail Paul and yer blog

Ta for the Arsenal ticket Paul tho seams a lifetime away

Oldyins enjoy such days and times

  2. In the interest of balance, i think the huns league position is a little false. They have played 3 of the hardest away fixtures in the first 4 games. Talk of them being a mid table team is nonsense even though they were outclassed today.

Let’s see where they are after 11 matches, Warburton and Caxinha were deliberately given easy starts, my guess is they’ll still finish second but so they should with the Money they’ve spent.

  3. Really good performance today, we all know it should have been another 5 -0 but when you stop to consider the pressure these guys were under, it was a fantastic showing. Just imagine if they had won, just imagine. They did not, nor did they look like causing us problems. The hun meeja has been absolutely desperate for Stevies huns to win, they have been hyping them up since he got the job. Well, no more.

As someone more worthy than me would say, GIRFUY.

    I’m purring with contentment, purring.

Mibbee, – it was only the first 60,000 crowd since 1994 when the new stadium went up.

At least as VP posted, it appears the mounted cavalry were headed off at the ole Janefield pass.

I never mentioned the gap closing.

I said they were better organized with the exception of their two diddies up front .

They did not play with the usual 10 outfield headless chickens.

Armfield and Jack are journeymen no matter what mssm say and it’s no surprise our superior players had them floundering.

I think it was a combination of woodwork,Thug goalie,Ed and Leigh’s lack of match sharpness and less space than they normally afford us in final third that kept the score down.

  7. Roy C- hope you are well amigo, another few minutes with that amount of people in that space could have been fatal. The Club need to publicly question the police tactics today, kids screaming, worried parents lifting them on their shoulders, guys climbing up onto the fencing to try and get some space.a total shambles that could have ended very badly.

Right result at the right time! Brendan got it right, players took it on to the pitch. No real contest.

Good performances all round, special mention to De Broony, Nitcham and Boyota.

That is where we need to do the business, on the pitch!

  9. THELURKINTIM on 2ND SEPTEMBER 2018 6:54 PM

We hit the woodwork 4 times and McGregor had 4 excellent saves. On another day (or with Foderingham in goal) some of them go in and we win very comfortably again.

I honestly don’t see much improvement in their team. The difference I did notice was a change in formation during the game but they still didn’t threaten.

Something like19 shots on goal (9 on target but didn’t yhe 4 woodwork don’t count as on target) and 14 corners shows how dominant we were. The Rainjurz urnae coming!

  10. The huns are signing Gareth McAuley – 6’5″ Norn Iron defender. Good player, but 38 years old. It will mean they have real options at CB – including the big boy from Notts Forest also. Allied to McGregor in goal, I really expect them to become a lot more robust defensively.

Lafferty gets goals at SPL level… He has proved that. Morelos ditto.

In short, I think they have improved massively from where they were. They will start to grind out wins in the League, I don’t see them slipping up much – McGregor is worth a load of points on his own.

We need to build real consistency now. We have been toothless in attack recently and we are clearly down a striker.

The way Rodgers talked today, there will be nobody coming in – but I would like to see a free agent striker to add competition/injury cover.

  11. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Pretty harmonious on here tonight. Refreshing and enjoyable.

    United we stand..

BSR – thank you for your kind words earlier.

For the first time in their existence, Sevco will have very similar fixture and travel commitments to Celtic during the September – December period.

Their current squad won’t get it done. We basically torpedoed them below the water line today. They’ll drop points, list and sink over the next four months then the creditors will knock on their door early 2019.

Note with interest comments about BR and 10IAR.

I genuinely believe Brendan’s time at Celtic will be his legacy to football in the same way as Cruyff’s was at Barcelona.

He’ll create two (possibly three teams) over five years plus capture, coach & culturalise a group of 15 – 19 year olds to be our future.

With a bit of luck the fulfilment of this legacy, perhaps around the year 2023, will coincide with the collapse of TV moneyed football – putting Celtic in a really good place to rise to the very top.

    Hail Hail

  12. Bada

I’m good pal, hope you well. The police are well aware of the volume of fan traffic at specific times prior to kick off, this was always going to happen today. Very poor and dangerous planning but I’m sure the usual suspects in our security team will smooth things over with their ex-colleagues.

Hope it doesn’t cost Pl any cash

The fans are only cash cows after all

Huns back under their rocks , time the PLC did likewise

  14. I’m going to use Brendan Rodgers type language when I say this.

But in terms of a football philosophy and the creating and understanding of a football idea. A way of playing so to speak. An identity.

Well slippy G has much to learn. It takes more than simply signing 15 players. Then hoping for the best.

  15. That awkward moment when the disciples of the God-like Stevie realise he’s only won 5 of his 12 games and then notice that he’s 7th in the SPFL.

  16. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Luxcelt – with all due respect where is your evidence base for the statement

” They will start to grind out wins in the League, I don’t see them slipping up much”.

They have played 3 away matches against top six opponents and secured two points.

They have one home win against the second worst team in the league.

    Hail hail

  17. Fine result today.

I was going to say a few words about those who have bombarded the blog with vicious criticism of all things Celtic and even our host over the past couple of weeks. But what’s the point, they’ll be back on soon enough when the going gets any way rough. What really baffles me is why they bother to come on here. Why don’t they choose to start their own and moan away to their hearts’ content.

    WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

    ============

Like you I expect them to go on a a run at some point. Probably starting when the play Hearts a few weeks ahead.

It would nice to have more than a 4 point cushion but too much makes for complacency.

Their likely improvement needs to be matched by ours. Or at least I think that is close to what BR said.

Competition is a spur to improved performances.

Fully aware that would be the new huns highest league placing ever, with EL group stages, would be hailed as success by media, even without a trophy.

Also I’m the interest of balance I think the Sevs are mince

I think they could be bottom 6, if Aberdeen get a grip, Killie & Hearts are already better than this time last season … Motherwell had zero points before they faced Steven Gerrards Sevs… I think a few Spl teams will fancy their chances against Steven Gerrards Sevs … fling in a few Thursday night humpings fae Villarreal & co

  21. BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL

It is just based on the fact that the league is poor, and teams simply do not have any depth. The huns have far more quality (IMO of course) than other teams and I expect that as the season rolls on, their bigger, deeper squad will simply overpower teams.

Let’s remember the huns are still a very new team. Their middling results of late are actually not bad for a team that has played so few matches together. Only one of that starting XI faced us last season. Our team was unchanged.

Another point on the huns is that they came in today having travelled back from Russia on Thursday night/Friday. If we had to do that and face a fresh huns team, I suspect we would have struggled.

One thing that could really help us is that IF they got a bar patch, we all know how quickly they turn on foreigners or anybody who is not ‘one of their own’. Gerrard has a huge amount of goodwill at the moment, and so it will take a while to evaporate (Caixinha never had this). But once it is gone, the hun fans will be very quick to turn on him.
