  1. Mangers? Donkeys? Is it that time already? Did we win the league? And are they……naw, feart tae ask!

  2. Pochettino nice guy and Spurs manager?

7th highest red cards as a player in La Liga with 13….well it surprised me.

Soft spoken manager with a hard centre?

Guys I grew up with now don’t speak about football, not friends but before 12/02/2014 they would either slag me or make conversation, one of the bams used to take a drink off me every end of season when the Ebt mob “won” the title, not one fresh orange and lemonade has he bought me these last few seasons, I take great delight in just smiling…….it says more than a thousand words

  4. Finally, no Efe yesterday, I really hope Ronnie is learning from his mistakes though with Scott Allan in the stand and Stuart Armstrong playing instead I’’m not so sure. If Ronnie is a work in progress apprentice type manager he’s sure taking his time learning. From our 30 man strong first team squad I think we could have the makings of a formidable team, but unfortunately we have people in charge who week in week out demonstrate that they cannot be relied upon to pick the best 11 from the 30. Will Ronnie and co ever get it right? Maybe. Chances are no more than 50 / 50 though.

  5. No going too well for Nadir.

Today’s match against Antalyaspor didn’t go much better, with Ciftci managing to get himself shown a red card for the relegation-threatened side, with his two booking just ONE MINUTE apart:

  6. ….and I mean who scouted this guy….?Nadir Ciftci must be having the worst season of his professional career.

‘After joining Celtic from Dundee United for a sizeable fee last summer, the Turkish striker was sent on loan to Eskişehirspor in his homeland on January’s transfer deadline day, following a run of just four goals in 22 appearances for the Hoops.

And last week we told you how Ciftci had got off to a terrible start at his new club, being substituted just 34 minutes into his debut; he wasn’t carrying an injury, nor was his side down to 10 men.

It appears he was just simply having a stinker.

  8. ” It’s tough to pick the team now. Scott (Allan) was in the 20-man squad but not the 18. It’s competition and everybody has to work to get in the team. That’s the reality of playing here.”

  9. While Ronny is still manager I will support him but what I’ve watched at Celtic Park this season has at times has been pretty dire.To me it’s not just only about results it’s about performance and style which is maybe why there are thousands of empty seats at every home game.

  10. Thats the worry with Ronnie, show up well in training and the chances are you’ll be in the team, ah if only life was so simple.

How else do you want it judged? KT and Rogic got their places by performing in training, same could be said for McGregor.

  15. The Original Sadies Bhoy @ 11.40am

Yesterday, I was commenting Celtic’s endorsement of gambling companies on the strip next season was unacceptable to me. I feel Celtic have gone a step too far.

    You disagreed.

I thought we were then having a discussion on what we find to be acceptable methods of how Celtic raise money, one method of which was shirt sponsorship. It’s clear that the threshhold of acceptable means of fundraising lies at different points for you and me, and as it does for everyone.

I don’t know if you saw it, however, I think my earlier post of 10.26pm last night is clearer in showing why I mentioned EBTs and shows that my mention of them as not being apropos of nothing. I referred to them as being something that you (and I) would consider as being a step too far, even if they did “help the bottom line” and even if at the time they were used they were NOT ILLEGAL, to make the point that not all ways to make money to strengthen the team are acceptable, that everyone has a point (legal or a matter of conscience or other) at which they think; “that’s gone too far”.

My post of 12.28 confirmed I did not suggest or say that you supported EBTs, in fact you even copied and pasted that text into your post of 11.40. And yet, you go on in the same post that you believe that’s I WAS implying you might have found them acceptable, despite what I stated.

Is it just what I stated regarding EBTs or is it everything I write that you disbelieve? If it’s the latter then no matter what I say, my instincts are telling me you’re going think it means the opposite.

I really did think for a long time about the value of posting a reply, however I have as I believe you have misunderstood me. I hope this post clarifies things.

    The Original Sadie’s Bhoy,

I’m glad your post wasn’t directed to me. However, telling people to be “less sniffy and altruistic” is not arguing the point, hence my mention of ad-hominems

I’m well aware that we all express our opinions on here, so long as we observe Paul67’s house rules. No one suggested anything different.

Celtoc do need to make as much moneyy as they can and use it as efficiently as possible.

You talked about not caring whether it was a betting company or not so long as it helped Celtic get a better standard of player or hold o to players for longer, then that was the bottom line for you.

    However, everyone has a limit.

14 or 15 years ago you wouldnt have accepted Celtic using a properly administered EBT scheme would you? They were considered to be tax avoidance as opposed to tax evasion (think i got that the right way round).

My.opinion is that Celtic shouldn’t be advertising gambling companies on the strip.

    The original.sadies bhoy,

Rangers’ ebts were improperly administered; from what I understand, if they had followed Philip Baxendale-Walker’s advice and not isued side letters, then they would have not been breaking the law at the time.

I didn’t say gambling companies names on srips.was illegal.

I didnt think you.would have supported Celtic using EBTs nor did I say that you did. I was making the point that everyone has things they think are not acceptable.

Woild you agree that weve done this discussion?

    …………………………………………….

Hang on a minute. We had an exchange of views about advertising on jerseys and you then introduced EBTs into the discussion. Why? It’s a total non-sequitur. You might not have said it but by introducing EBTs I think you were implying that I might have approved of that for Celtic to gain an advantage.”

    However MIT @ 2.50 :-

“as for people wanting the zombies back ….

we will never know for sure (it is one of things that is impossible to measure), but, based on my reading of CQN, I suspect that many of the happyclappers – who long for the halcyon days of the Lison Lions beating the huns .- will be happier than the mineshafters …. who want the game cleaned up (including cleaning up Celtic)…. and cleaning up the game, means no zombies.”

Mike, I really really do not recognise the picture you paint. To the point of thinking it has stood reality on its head.

Who are these happyclappers who “long for the days of the Lisbon Lions”? Surely, if they did “long for” those days, they would be dissatisfied with our current lot and, hence, more of a mineshafting persuasion?

As a happyclapper, I constantly reference the fact that we were Kings of Europe during the 66 to 74 period but fairly irrelevant again until 2001 when we became a 2nd tier club in Europe for a decade or so before slipping back again. The narrative and intent behind that observation is so far from “longing for” a return to LL days as to be a distortion of black into white. I, and the few people who agree with me, are saying that this recent downturn is no more of a European slide than the period of 1975 to 2000 was. I do not and cannot expect a return to LL days because that “golden generation” has not re-appeared.

The mineshafters want the game cleaned up, do they? You sure about that? Do the happyclappers not want that? Why ascribe that motivation to one group only? The most active resolutionists would be hard put to be boxed in with a Mineshafting label. Even that crabbit member of the awkward squad, canamalar, does not fit readily into mineshafting mode. I am astonished that mineshafters would claim that desire to themselves. Truly astonished.

Here’s my hypothesis in its simplest form:-

I am predicting that the appearance of a Zombie club in our division will revitalise our average attendances.

Many of the happyclappers who have continued to attend, support and enjoy Celtic during the 2012 to 2016 period will continue to attend but a few of us will be seriously conflicted and a few will cease to attend.

In contrast, a large proportion of the mineshafting support, the group that have stayed away or boycotted because the fare is poor to watch or the Board have been corrupt or because we are no longer a big club at European level, will find a reason to return. That reason will not be that the football has got better, or the Board or Majority Shareholder has got less corrupt, it will be because they get a frisson of excitement that we are up against what they imagine to be an old enemy.

As with the happyclapper group, there will be a fair portion of “currently attending mineshafters” who will continue to attend and will not change their views or attendance habits because of an Ibrox club but there will be a few who feel, alongside some of the happyclapping community, that it will be a bridge too far and will reluctantly cease to attend.

My hypothesis is easily tested next year. If I am wrong our crowd decline should continue because the mineshafting tendency is a growing one. If I am right, however, the crowds will flock back and you will have great trouble in explaining how this increase has been brought about by people who were happy with our lot returning after an absence caused by being not happy with our lot but they were happyclappers before and still are. If it don’t make sense it may be that it is nonsense.

So can you explain to me, with a bit more detail and definition of terms, how you see it working? Because, frankly I feel that I am speaking a different language if I proclaim myself a happyclapper with a realistic perspective on 66 to 74 and the factors that caused it, that I can be accused of nostalgia. And as for the bizarre notion that mineshafters alone want the game cleaned up and happyclappers don’t mind or are opposed- where did that come from?

“Pretty poor that fans are now wanting the coach to ignore what happens during the week when picking his match day squad”

Quite a sweeping statement Huddle, who is suggesting that? Personally all I want to see is Celtic getting value for their money. With a 30 man strong first team squad we should be doing much better than we are at present. How we arrive at that is not my responsibility, we have a management team well paid to do that.

  18. A couple of quotes from Ronny’s meeting with the fans in the week.

    Copied from KDS.

Ronny at the executive club meeting this week said he doesn’t get a game because he goes for the killer ball too often

Ronny not happy with our transfer policy as he would rather sign two guys of quality rather than a buy a load of players for cheap.

Happy with Erik and Kazim-Richards as they are leaders and he wants more of them in the squad

Stokes decision was more from people above Ronny due to off the field issues.

Stopped the Ronny roar as he wasn’t happy with the reaction he was getting from fans. He didn’t expand on what this was.

  19. Was at game yesterday ..a few thoughts

    1) crowd was relatively poor – about 34/35 k, and the loss of 20k fans over the last 6/7 years is a concern.

    2) IMHO Boyata was motm, and once again he contributed with a goal. If we get this guy to concentrate on defending he can be a real asset to us

    3) Impressed by Erik the Vking’s organization skills, and liked the way he talked to others around hm, and resisted attempts to needlessly lunge forward.

    4) CKR looks as tho he could be a decent acquisition, although his track record, suggests he will implode after 9/15 months – hopefully he has made his mistakes elsewhere.

Finally, I think the manager realizes most fans have lost confidence in him, and methinks that in the summer he will go of his own accord, so let’s hope the board are doing their homework behind the scenes.

And the coach decides to use training during the week to determine who gets in his match day squad, you appeared to post that isn’t the way things should be??

I’d say using the weeks training is the best way to get the most out of our money.
