Celtic will weep

502

There are probably a dozen important metrics to measure Celtic’s health: total revenue, commercial revenue, merchandising sales, trophies, European progress, but the most important long term indicator of the club’s health is the is demand for season tickets, which not only sold out this week, but did so in record time.

Three years ago, the upper tier of the Lisbon Lions stand was covered in advertising tarpaulin.  Brendan Rodgers’ arrival changed that, but his departure changed nothing. Now, the task for Celtic, is to keep the kettle boiling without the perma-tanned one.

My suspicion is, there is going to be an intensity about the next two seasons as Nine and Ten come into focus.  These will be leagues for the ages, we all want to be there.

But the football business is never simple, even if the next two seasons go to plan.  Football does not stop at Ten, but getting there changes everything.

Alexander the Great wept when there were no more worlds to conquer.   11, 12 or whatever-in-a-row would all be just another season for Celtic fans, what number do we chase with any conviction then?  This is very much a First World problem, can you imagine how losing the next two leagues to Celtic will affect our supposed rivals?

Celtic the Great will weep at having no more records to chase, but, goodness, the bitter realisation of historic and perhaps permanent failure – knowing the best you can hope for is second to Celtic – that will threaten the viability of some.

I’m enjoying these times.  Every minute of them.  You have a good weekend.

That’s the way I see it also … Celtic isn’t the be all and end all, but still magical

My wee girl kids on she doesn’t like football but she is so knowledgable about Celtic … knows far more than I did at 10 … in fact probably knows more than me now

She loves KT so she isn’t daft :-)

Kids are the future, get Celtic instilled in to them early and it stays there

    despite other influences.

Wee Grace came down to our games today with her mother, son is still

in Papa New Guinnea, Papa refereeing and she is shouting ” come on you

    bhoys in green ”

Now we have tried to get the local council to adopt the Celtic strip but they

are obliged by politics, heritage, etc. to adopt the colours of the local

Wurundjari tribe who lived here for hundreds of years before we arrived.

So no worries, yellow and navy blue like the Brazil strip does it for me.

But the huddle pre game and our bhoys playing like lions, well what could

    be better?

I always smile when you post about wee Grace … my wee yin is Emily Grace and her middle name is after the song, her Sevconian mother has loved that song since I met her when wee Skippy broke our hearts in 2005 :-)

  7. Melbourne Mick on

Wee Skippy. oh my god, still have a beer now and again with his

hoops wearing brothers and dad John down the local.

Not a subject to be broached let me tell you. if ever a family was

left broken hearted well it was them.

Think the only excuse i can try to make is he wasn’t brought up

in Glesgy and didn’t realise the consequences.

Is that good enough for you?

Naw me neither, and let me tell you aul John as well.

  8. Melbourne Mick, can you add Depok Indonesia (via Govan,Montrose,Madrid) to your evergrowing list of Celts around the world.

I like the fact we Skippy tried his best against us, think every Celt does :-)

2005 wasn’t Skippy’s fault, maybe Martin should have played his strongest team every game and not try and keep all our strikers happy, plus Craig Bellamy might have scored one of his 5 one on ones :-)

No regrets … but certainly not Scott MacDonalds fault in my opinion

I think the list was getting too long for some, but isn’t it amazing

how Celtic supporters gather together, whether it’s for a charitable

cause or just a get the gether?

Think the list is done now but maybe someone would add your name?

By the way, sat in my favourite pub in Melbourne today and nobody

turned up, Celtic supporters my erchie lol.

Certainly not , but i’ve discussed this with many a fellow Celtic

    supporter,what would you have done?

In my mind i wouldn’t have cared who paid my wages, take the

consequences, sky the feckin ball, but maybe thats just me.

I think I would have tried even harder against Celtic … it worked for our Scott

    A terrific Celtic signing ??

  13. Best of luck to the Scottish Womens’ team in the South of France later this afternoon. What a great achievement by all concerned, the improvement in the players and the team in more recent years, under both European and now Scottish coaches is a lesson for all young footballers everywhere. Can you improve? If the answer is yes, go on and prove it. Now a forward passing game might not get the right result against England, but it still might give the team momentum enough to get out of a very tough group. Of course I’ve supported Scotland in France before, last time we qualified, back in 1998. Quite a good Celtic side in those days mind you.

  14. Stebhoy 3.39pm

    Ryan Kent is poor …

6 goals and can run … am afraid not good enough for Celtic …

    Shved is far more impressive

I blame Peter Lawell … pretty poor stuff on other “Celtic” sites by all accounts “pedrophiles” is acceptable sounds Hunnish and even attributing Mr Lawell to child abuse is so follow follow … I suppose we have our own idiots

  15. glendalystonsils on

Kent is also a scowling hun and fails the Celtic handsomeness test , which is even more important than the medical.

Anyway , let’s concentrate on getting the genuine deals like Turnbull and Harper through the door.

Leave the nonsense madey-up ones to the MSM

  17. The Scotland v England game is on 2 channels. BBC1 has the English commentary whilst BBC Alba has the Gaelic.

Good to see the whole team singing Flower of Scotland. Let’s send them homeward!

Exactly, I think we need a few new fresh faces to energise the team, honestly think we only need 2 or 3 first teamers, we have (hopefully) Griff, Christie to return …

    Great times indeed

The Scottish lassies singing a flower of Scotland was a joy … wee MissGFTB telling me to stop singing :-)

  26. In the SPL and the EPL even a leg breaking challenge can avoid a yellow card. Wo betide the player whose fingertips touch the ball from three yards. Still, I suppose it adds to the number of “administrators” who take money out of the game for little or nothing. VAR has added to those numbers.

  27. But as for the second goal, this is what happens when you lose possession high up the pitch!

  28. Ya dancer … 6/4 both teams scoring mon the burdz :-)

    Apologies for the sexist tone

  29. Scotland back in it! 2-1 Good goal.

Done well in the second half thus far.

Good to read you mention cowboy McCormack, old friend of my father from the Butney in Maryhill, where his best boxing exhibition was against the the drummer of the local orange walk when they decided to walk down Whitelaw street ?

The goals are far too big for the girls, some guys are 6ft 7in and they lose goals … I think the ladies World Cup is great but it’s a different sport from the men .. why is tennis finals over 3 sets not 5 … give the girls a chance .. I would love my daughter to get into playing football in 10yrs time their wages will be very good … that’s my pension plan but she isn’t buying into it :-)
