Cheers, Magners

920

Sponsorship income is harder and harder to find so securing an improved shirt deal, while others flap to secure lesser deals, is a genuine result for the Celtic commercial team.  Irish cider maker, Magners, will have their name of the Celtic shirt for three years from this summer.

This will be the first time Celtic does not share the name on their shirts with another Scottish club since the 1990s, apart from a brief period during 2012, in the weeks between Rangers being assigned to liquidation and a successor coming into existence.

The significant amount of coverage outside Scotland as a result of this season’s Champions League qualification will no doubt have contributed to Magners’ decision, as will the reputation of Celtic fans to toast their Irish heritage in good nature.

Let’s hope club, fans and sponsor can work to make this a long and successful partnership.

They didn’t complain about the 16-10-16.

This can only mean they were getting fast-tracked to the 10 based on stadia criteria or the like but it seems that little scheme is off.

Or maybe they just couldn’t count.

    THE GATHERING.

    http://www.thegatheringireland.com/

This year, 2013, has been designated by the Irish Government as the year of The Gathering.

It is a cry for help to those of Irish origin, of Irish descent and those “whose lives are pledged to Ireland”, to try, if possible, to visit the country and give it’s tourist industry a much needed boost.

January is traditionally the time when the holiday industry cranks up it’s advertising.

So, if anyone has been putting off that “must do” visit home, please think about doing it this year.

The link above will explain what it is all about.

One thing, I hope all the Celtic supporters wait till the close season, as I would hate to see Celtic Park deserted, due to the vacationing diaspora!

So, me bhoyos, gather your lovely Euros, book the ferry or Ryanair and let’s be ‘aving yez!!

Any thoughts on the dilemma of advertising alcohol on football shirts with regard to influencing the young and imperssionable?

Or does that go away because it’s Irish based?

  11. alasdair maclean

It’s a fair point, but it’s for me to bring up my kids with a good attitude towards alcohol.

We live in a society where alcohol plays a part, to deny that is denying reality.

Celtic aren’t parents, they are there to make enough money to put a competitive football team on the park.

As the bhoy from clonmel well done to corkcelt who was obviously been instrumental in getting this sponsorship deal.

However dual sponsorship is still on the cards as the same place produces the other well known brand so expect to see BUMMERS on the sevco shirt before long

  14. Doc I was trying to work out why you were quizzing BT on the bar prices,

It’s now become clear that your looking to work out how much it’ll cost others to get you Pd.

  15. Alasdair MacLean on

    Doc is Neil Lennon,

Celtic are not changing policy, just the alcohol brand name.

I just don’t think it should be glossed over because it is Magners.

In my opinion it is morally reprehensible – and that opinion doesn’t change because it’s a nice brand.

Congratulations to Celtic on a good marketing move though, on the other hand.

  16. Swansea got Michu for 2 mill cos that is what he was valued at.

La Liga is full of guys who are as good as Michu, and could be got for the same amount, and would probably get a decent wage increase if they went to Celtic.

Rayo Vallecano, changed virtually their whole squad this season, and have a decent team they got for next to nothing.

    They are out there.
