Cheers, Magners

920

Sponsorship income is harder and harder to find so securing an improved shirt deal, while others flap to secure lesser deals, is a genuine result for the Celtic commercial team.  Irish cider maker, Magners, will have their name of the Celtic shirt for three years from this summer.

This will be the first time Celtic does not share the name on their shirts with another Scottish club since the 1990s, apart from a brief period during 2012, in the weeks between Rangers being assigned to liquidation and a successor coming into existence.

The significant amount of coverage outside Scotland as a result of this season’s Champions League qualification will no doubt have contributed to Magners’ decision, as will the reputation of Celtic fans to toast their Irish heritage in good nature.

Let’s hope club, fans and sponsor can work to make this a long and successful partnership.

Perhaps old chukie is betting on the reconstruction being rejected (asit may well do) and claiming victory

  2. Alisadair MacLean,

As I say, your point is a fair one and in an ideal world……

And even more fair when you mention vulnerable kids, unfortunately there are too many.

But, Celtic are not in the business of influencing public health issues, they are, well you know what they are, and if this brings in a revenue stream which helps the club get where I want them to be, so be it.

I get your point and can’t say you are wrong, but Magners is a legal product, if taken responsibly is a very nice product, and it isn’t the clubs responsibility to educate the public.

  3. Tarrant.

Thought the same, tbb hit the nails on the head with that.

It’s not easy keeping up with all the put downs on the deid.

This might sound a bit sad but im actually looking forward to work tomorrow…i no the huns won’t be.

Chuckles rant today must make even the thickest of them realise alls not well at ibrokes.

  4. brilliant news, i am delighted

i have wanted separate shirt sponsorship for celtic for years

and not for us to be seen to be in a relationship with the sectarians in div 4

And here was me bigging you up – and don’t let facts get in the way of a story

The chuckster should make up his mind, they don’t do walking away, we are walking away

    making me dizzy

quite like the swansea fans, land of my father rendition

  7. One other dilemma for the teams challenging for 2nd place in the current Scottish Div. 2.

Queen of the South are 14 points clear and well set to be one of the 2 teams to gain promotion to join 9 of the current 10 teams of div.1(plus Dundee) in a new 12 team division 1 next year.

But what do you do if you are Alloa on 36 points, Brechin on 31 or, even Forfar & Arbroath on 26?

Do you strive for promotion and get some small sized visiting supports from Dundee, Morton or Thistle, and the Pars or do you deliberately go on a slump to finish 3rd or 4th to ensure you get one large bumper pay day from Sevco and take your chances on finishing 2nd to them in the new Division 3?

It will be interesting to see if any of these teams go on a losing run over the next few weeks.

    Doc is Neil Lennon,

We’re not really disagreeing…but I don’t want to hear a word from you against MacDonalds sponsoring the Olympics!

  9. I sometimes lurk on the blogs from the darkside and it is becoming obvious that more and more of them are begining to realise that Chuck is a wind bag with no substance at all. Chuck won’t walk away, he will run like Hell the first opportunity he gets. Chuckighisla.csc

  10. This is interesting and suggests Celtic have been on the ball for a good few months if not longer.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/9791057/Celtic-reveal-costs-of-reconstruction-after-unveiling-three-year-shirt-sponsorship-deal-with-Magners.html

The greatest risk to Celtic’s ongoing welfare is not dropping crowds but not having a league to play in. That has been a fear at Celtic for some time and this was an opportunity to do something about it.

Whilst not guaranteed CL money, the prospect of earning it for the foreseeable future with an under control wage bill, means that the sums surrendered to enable reconstruction are in fact worth it in straight business terms – the sums surrendered pay for the means to get at the big money.

The next greatest threat to CL cash access has now been removed from the scene for at least 4 years, so why on earth would Celtic want to see them given a lift up?

Unless the handshake mob pull of a remarkable coup, Celtic have set the foreseeable future for themselves and Scottish football and it is a more sustainable one than that left behind.

Paul has consistently said Celtic/PL did not want a parachute for Rangers, I have my own evidence that this was so. JT’s diatribe at Celtic and us bampots is caused in part at being outsmarted. His plan was always to aid a swift recovery to his club even as a journo, they all confidently, smugly, predicted a swift recovery and but for supporter resistance to defend the game’s integrity, they would have been right.

When Traynor rails against sporting integrity, Celtic and the bampots, he has every reason to be upset because of thwarted plans.

    Alasdair MacLean, ;-)

    Them and Coke, deary me.

Now there is a question, would you prefer one of those to sponsor Celtic?

    ———————————————–

OK, we’ll call it a day – you’ve got me now!

  12. good evening cqn

off subject, son has got me a ticket for a night,of Q and A with Guillem Balague and Gaizka Mendeita in Glasgow on the 1st of february.

Was thinking of Questions I could ask maybe

    1HAVE YOU HEARD OF SEVCO

2HAVE YOU HEARD OF Charles (chuckle)Green

    H H

  13. Alasdair MacLean on

    Another question…..

If Magners’ decision to sponsor Celtic stems from their success in the Champions league, does this relevation emphasise how much Celtic lost out on by being denied Champions League access for years by a team trading whilst insolvent?

It has to be barrs lime juice not the cordial stuff -it was a favourite game warmer for me back in the day – 40 years since i’ve invived (is that a word?)

  15. In 2008, 3 top Executives formerly with Newcastle Brewery’s led by John Dunsmore were brought in to takeover the then ailing C&C. They proved very hard taskmasters but have totally turned around the fortunes of the Group.I believe 2 of them are from Glasgow and are huge Tims.

  16. tommytwiststommyturns on

SFTB – sorry couldn’t resist! It was the Castlemilk reference…..! :-)

    Che – holiday? Yawn, what’s new….

  17. Had to laugh at Chuckie voicing his displeasure at league reconstruction and that Sevco would have to leave Scottish football ….. Hell would be a great place for them to go!!!

    Good riddance to cheating vermin!!

    Hahahahahaha

  18. Alasdair MacLean

Maybe but there is no way to get that money back. So we either get mad or get even.

  19. Dead and Loving it on

It is quite funny really, the other night a lot of people slated the reconstruction , now that jabba and chucky have slated it, all quiet on the western front

  20. Gene's a Bhoys name on

When people debate the subject of standing areas at football grounds they should point to the epl where it apears no-one behind the goals sits down -tonights chelski being a game in point. Properly designed areas must be better

  21. Ghuys

Good result today on the separate sponsorship.

The noises from Ipox over the last few days indicate that they are either out of control or Chals is going down

the constant publicity route to keep the brothers turning up.

Getting the feeling that there is unrest at Ipox and it will be the lack of cash. If this nonsense from Chals keeps up then major problems will start to surface at the time they ask for very very earlier season ticket renewals.

  22. not mines and not doing a sales pitch but ………. over on Ebay there is this little gem , might be one for the collectors –

    ———————————————————————————————-

I came across this record amongst a collection of classical LPs.

    It’s a 7″ 45 rpm single c.1965 Catalogue Number is TM 85

    Side 1: Celtic! Celtic!

    Side 2: Slattery’s Mounted Fut

The label shows a 1960’s style football with the name Celtic and the surnames of the Celtic Football Team c.1965

Fallon, Young, Gemmell, Clark, McNeill, Kennedy, Chalmers, Johnstone, Divers, Murdoch, Hughes

Perhaps this single was issued to mark their Scottish Cup Final win?

The condition is very good, there are no scratches, though it is a little worn. It plays fine. Plain sleeve.

Low start price as there is nothing I can find on the internet about this record – but it may be very scarce

  23. Perhaps The Rangers could get a deal with one of those really cheap and nasty ciders that the neds drink.

Or maybe they should get away from alcohol and go for thrush cream – they are a bunch of irritating ******* after all.

  24. Gene’s a Bhoys name

    It sounds like a word.

Been so long since I has any, I honestly can’t remember what it tastes like, but about the same lenght of time ago, when we came to Glasgow for the games, we partook in the Lanlique, [sp] dreadfull stuff.
