Sponsorship income is harder and harder to find so securing an improved shirt deal, while others flap to secure lesser deals, is a genuine result for the Celtic commercial team. Irish cider maker, Magners, will have their name of the Celtic shirt for three years from this summer.
This will be the first time Celtic does not share the name on their shirts with another Scottish club since the 1990s, apart from a brief period during 2012, in the weeks between Rangers being assigned to liquidation and a successor coming into existence.
The significant amount of coverage outside Scotland as a result of this season’s Champions League qualification will no doubt have contributed to Magners’ decision, as will the reputation of Celtic fans to toast their Irish heritage in good nature.
Let’s hope club, fans and sponsor can work to make this a long and successful partnership.

When last joint sponsorship was done the Tennants Brand was owned by the Belgian Brewers In-Bev. In late 2009 C&C bought the Tennants Brewery from In-Bev. In other words C&C never entered into any sponsorship deal with the dead Club. Whether they continue the Tenant deal after this year remains to be seen.

Sorry, corkcelt, I have to correct your chronology there. The current joint Celtic-Rangers sponsorship deal (which runs out at the end of the season) was signed after C&C took over Tennent’s. I know that for a fact.
The rationale at the time was that it didn’t make economic sense in the West of Scotland to put the logo for Tennent’s (a relatively parochial brand) on the jerseys of only one Old Firm team.
That’s not the same for Magner’s, which is very much an international brand.
I think Poundland would be more of a fit for Sevco.
This Magner’s deal will be great for both Celtic and C&C. Much of the credit for progressing the negotiations must go to Peter Lawwell personally.
Again, that’s a fact.

Well, Celtic are to fund an orphanage in Africa which has been ransacked by thugs with machettes and run by a young Celtic supporting Uni pupil from South Uist which houses 16 orphans. Celtic are to also send over 16 tops to assist the youngsters recovery. What a Club. Pure Class.
