Ciftci, Stein, and the Audit

560

I’m pleased to read Ronny Deila ask for patience with Nadir Ciftci, the player needs a bit of support right now. Had Nadir knocked a goal or two in against our Icelandic opponents, Stjarnan, he would have been in a different zone at the moment, but he missed a few chances – not uncommon among players newly arrived at a club, and has since found opportunities limited by a domestic suspension.

Dundee United started training after Celtic, so Nadir was behind the curve during those games against Stjarnan. Without a full 90 minutes in a month, he will still have ground to make up when we resume after the international break, but he’ll hopefully feel the benefit of the work he’s put in on the training field in recent weeks.

Remember the Jock Stein Charity Match, which takes place at East End Park, Dunfermline on Sunday, kick-off 2pm. There’s a host of former players are playing, including Tom Boyd, Chris Sutton, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Neil Lennon and Stiliyan Petrov, while several from the Hollywood set are also playing, including James McAvoy, Martin Compston and Gianni Capaldi.

Funds from the event go to the Celtic and Dunfermline Foundations. You can pay at the gate to mark the 30th anniversary of Jock’s passing. There’s going to be a lot of memories on that field.

Three years after football fans in Scotland became experts in insolvency law, we now have to become familiar with Serious Organised Crime (I had to look up what it was today). The Scottish Government suggest it involves “drugs, human trafficking and fraud”.

Fraud is one of the small number of crimes where a life imprisonment sentence can be imposed on someone convicted of the crime in Scotland (it carries a maximum of 10 years in England). Even if you were 100% innocent of all charges and the possibility of contamination from dubious characters, the sheer scale of the matters in hand would be an enormous worry.

My hunch is that conspiracies and criminal plans to subvert information are difficult to maintain under the weight of these charges.

I’ve been looking all morning but cannot find what I’m searching for. Does anyone know of an enterprise which operates in the shadow of a Serious Organised Crime investigation which has been able to raise money which didn’t come from the proceeds of Serious Organised Crime?

I’m sure the audit will be just fine.

Gents, on a Celtic blog, shouldn’t we get analysis about why we lost to Maribor, Legia and Malmo? Why we have a striker crisis?

    ———————————————–

Of course – fire away with your views on those subjects and no doubt you get a response, if not start a debate. Doesn’t mean other people can;t talk about other things. It’s an open forum and works best when there’s a wide range of subjects under discussion.

“However in regards to older more experienced players, I don’t agree they are ‘mystical creatures’. Malmo had one upfront who cost buttons & another example would be Esteban Cambiasso, who earlier in the window went to Greece on a free. There are many players like these within every league, it’s just obvious we don’t look for them. ”

I think you have a chalk and cheese example. Cambiasso playing for Leicester would have been weighed in for his troubles and he will have gone to Greece because they will weigh him in with even more. Cambiasso is a good player but he’s no Larsson and he would be expecting a wedge way beyond what we pay. Rosenberg would have been gettable but is he really all that good. I saw him kick a few in Sweden but I did not see him have a great game, We have bought experienced pros like Majstorovic and Ljunberg who both disappointed. It seems we DID go after Fletcher who fits this category but, when CQN is presented with a real life non-exotic example of the type of player you describe, they suddenly become sniffy and say, Aye he is old and expensive and comes from a higher standard of football but, Naw- no him is the verdict

“Every club favours squad harmony of course they do but even the biggest have their superstars on superstar wages. One example – United pay Rooney more than any other player at the club. Has this brought squad disharmony to Man United? –

Not all players are paid the same money it’s a myth to think they are, likewise believing disharmony comes from a few picking up a bigger wage. -”

Your argument has evolved a wee bit from where I left it. For Rooney at Man U read Broony at Celtic. We already operate a differentiated pay structure. Young players and fringe players will (mostly) be on a lower salary but it is not GREATLY differentiated. My point was that you cannot have 2 or 3 superstars on £30k to £40k a week supplemented by journeymen and kids on less than 5k a week. That is too imbalanced. We saw what happened to Sutton, Agathe, Thompson, McNamara and Hartson at the first sign that their request to crank up their wages to “nearer what Henrik gets” led to discontent and a mass exodus- foreigners and Celtic men alike jumped ship.

“VVD was always likely to be sold for £10-13 million, so why not speculate some of this future fee to strengthen for the qualifiers? ”

We bought 8 players this window and it looks like we tried for 9. Some of them you can get before or during the qualifiers. Most become available to us if moves to bigger clubs breaks down. All over Europe deals accelerate in the last two days of the window- we are not unique in suffering from that. As always you can buy your List C and D candidates early on in the window and you will have a stable but less capable squad for the qualifiers or you can wait to see if hte List A and B guys will come when you have achieved qualification. The gamble remains a gamble no matter what you do. That’s why the bookies will lay odds on it. If Celtic bought a £5m forward their odds in the Malmo tie would not have changed.

“Repeating the same nonsense year on year is madness, things need to change”

We both believe the alternative view has little merit (is nonsense) – yet we are both repeating it year after year.

Anyway things change every year even as a strategy is in place. Change is constant and inevitable. The Balde/Pukki window was an example of our strategy. So was the Armstrong/GMS window. You can see them as both the same but I see different outcomes from 2 examples of the same strategy. It is far too early to see if the Ciftci/Simunovic/Boyata/Blackett/Allan/Janko/Christie/Bailly window is a success, a failure or somewhere in between. Its certainly a change.

You are 100% correct. Why have I not heard one word on here about any of these matters? What’s wrong with you, CQN? Have you not a bad word to spare for the abysmal Celtic?

I am gonna have to go to confession because I had the Cammy Bell howler as my screensaver and I laugh every time I watch it.

If you’re so upset about what folk are posting about, and wish to read and comment only on matters of interest to yourself, go and start your own blog; and give the rest of us peace.

You can have multiple names and post your shoite to John O’Neil. Oh wait, you already tried that on here.

    Evening bhoys and ghirls

As you know we have been Helping Wee Shay along the Way since last September, running LMS, CQN Predictor comps etc. In the period to date we have raised nearly £5,400 for his treatment. An amazing total to be raised in such a short period.

The young family themselves have also raised in excess of £4,000 themselves meaning that the family have secured 2/3rds funding for the second year of a planned three year treatment program, which will cost around £18,000. The hope of the program, not available on the NHS, is to improve this wee baby’s quality of life so that one day he may eat, talk and even walk. The simple things we take for granted for those loved ones around us.

I will post an update on Wee Shay condition over the next couple of days from his family, so you can hear first hand how this has worked out to date.

In the meantime you can read more about Shay (age 2) here:

We were delighted to announce that we will support this young family for a further year and tonight a couple of well battled and hardy CQNers :-) are delighted to rejoin the charitable efforts again ( having previous) in the first of these mini fundraising campaigns.

I know the excited duo couldnae hold their water last night, for those that were on the blog.

So without further ado, I will pass over to CQNs very own Statler and Waldorf :-)

  6. Beefheart – I’m pretty sure we have already had those debates and will do again in the future. My first post this morning was about strikers. Being of average intelligence I cam cope with a variety of topics on any given day. Most can.

It would be beyond bizarre for celtic supporters not to have interest in what is going on across Glasgow. Some, like yourself couldn’t care less about it. Fair play. Post about stuff you want to discuss – others will join in I’m sure.

But you can’t expect to dictate what others should or shouldn’t discuss within the rules of the blog.
