Cole, Kazim-Richards, keeping the receipt

566

“News” broke this morning that Carlton Cole has left Celtic. Next they’ll be telling us the Berlin Wall has fallen.

Carlton had ‘left the building’ some time ago. Last month I asked about him in unflattering terms “Didn’t look like a Celtic player on paper or on the field, so why did we sign him?”. He was a pay-as-you-play punt, available to sign between transfer windows. If he could cut it, he’d get a game and be paid, if not, he wouldn’t cost a penny.

He didn’t work out (of course), but there’s no real harm in taking punts like this. I suspect Celtic also had a break option in Colin Kazim-Richards contract which allowed them to encourage him out of town this month. He was another bizarre looking signing who didn’t work out, but unlike Carlton, at least we got the odd shift out of Colin.

Don’t look for top-level strategy in all this but you’ll find a low-level strategy known at Celtic Park as ‘Keep the receipt” business. Get them in, get an option to make the move permanent, but give yourself an out, in case the warning signs have substance.

In short, the Carlton Cole-Colin Kazim-Richards strategy looks indiscriminate but it’s not really. Making transfer mistakes is a problem for all, but if you’re going to do it, and every club does, make cheap mistakes.

On a more serious note, I do work for the State Examination Commission in making sure that the Oral Irish exam is conducted properly – for students, examiners and for the integrity of the assessment process.

I’m a huge advocate of the. 40% oral exam, not just for Irish but for all learnt language.

  3. Today was a 10% sad : 90% happy day for me.

My mother, Margaret Brannan, died at the age of 91 (and three quarters) in the Royal Infirmary. She died at 10.16 on 16/6/2016. This was the 10%

She led a very happy life and loved and was loved by many and I thank God for her life and times. This was the 90%

She did not know if a football was spherical or cubic but was a Celtic Pools Agent for > 20 years so did her bit for our club.

Since she suffered a severe stroke on Sunday, I spent time at her bedside and played her favourite hymns and songs to her.

The last CD we bought her was The Priests and the last track on that album is Be Still My Soul. This was the track which was playing when she peacefully skipped away. Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisaged her last moments would be to such a beautiful hymn:

After reading Celtic/Brexit/Immigration Quick News today I read an article stating the referendum might not be legally enforceable and parliament could act against the referendum result.

Please read David Allen Greens article on this, very interesting reading

    http://blogs.ft.com/david-allen-green/2016/06/14/can-the-united-kingdom-government-legally-disregard-a-vote-for-brexit/

I have long maintained that regardless of referendum result, there is absolutely no way that Britain will be leaving EU.

The whole thing is an extremely costly exercise in facilitating blood letting within the Tory Party.

If it isn’t possible to supply two mediums, my sylph-like mate LENNYBHOY can have it.

If you don’t mind I would like to share something I posted on my FB Timeline given the that your dear Mum passed away on the 16th June:

Today is June 16 and on June 16, 2002, Padre Pio was canonized by Pope John Paul II and would be known from that time forward as St. Pio of Pietrelcina. In 1947, John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) traveled to San Giovanni Rotondo and made his confession to Padre Pio and attended his early morning Mass. Later, he wrote a letter to Padre Pio, asking him to pray for a friend who was gravely ill with cancer and not expected to live. Shortly after he sent the letter, his friend made a complete recovery. Pope John Paul II said: “I wish to thank the Lord for having given us dear Padre Pio, for having given him to our generation in this very tormented century. In his love for God and for his brothers and sisters, he is a sign of great hope.”

    – Pope John Paul II

If a trademark is jointly registered and one of the joint owners is liquidated does the other party inherit ownership after the legal liquidation date or does the trademark lapse?

    Because

If ownership reverts to the other party then Celtic FC own the trademarks for “Old Firm” and “The Old Firm”

    And

Celtic can prevent any other party from using that trademark in the areas trademarked without their permission

    Likewise

If the trademark lapses on the date when RFC plc is legally liquidated then it cannot be transferred or recreated as a jointly owned trademark without the agreement of both parties

    Meaning

Celtic have the power to decide if the trademark terms “Old Firm” and “The Old Firm” should die on the date when RFC plc is legally liquidated

And if they choose not to continue using this trademark

They will be making a statement on the OC/NC issue

Sorry to hear of your loss. Thoughts are with you and your family.

  18. WITS: Congratulations, but if you think your role as a parent ends now think again. I could write a book on it! My three boys have all gone on and done degrees and Masters which is more than I or my wife has. The eldest has just completed his doctoral thesis which is way beyond what anyone in the extended family has ever achieved.

Best wishes to your daughter tomorrow and I’m sure, like myself, you are chuffed at her and your children’s’ achievements.

Off to mo leaba. The annual campaign to make Almore Al ‘less’ continues at 8am tomorrow.

If WC cannot provide each of us a medium, why don’t we let the wonders of technology decide?

If your order was received time wise before mine you can have it and if mine was first I’ll take the last one.

    Thanks for your kind offer.

Lennybhoy – many thanks for the link of the date to the canonization of Padre Pio who was someone she prayed through.

Once the Requiem Mass and Cremation is finished, I intend that we will leave the Crematorium to this wonderful song by Judith Durham of The Seekers (the real supergroup of the sixties)
