Kris Commons return to the Celtic team on Sunday was enormously welcome, even if it didn’t produce his first goal of the season. Kris has had a wretched season after arriving with a bang from Derby County in January last year.
He is not the most athletic or skilful player in the team but he has an abundance of football intelligence, well in excess of his contemporaries. The cross-field pass for the second goal against St Johnstone was a perfect example. Celtic players were rushing forward on a break, while defenders were flooding back. To the annoyance of many sitting around me, Kris slowed things down, surveyed the field and switched play to Ki on the opposite wing.
This has been a great and memorable season for Celtic but there remains plenty to do. An hour or so watching Kris Commons is enough to demonstrate the way forward.

He came on and scored a cracker, cutting in from the right wing and curling the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot.

This was just the closing of the circle by the EC. It was they who commissioned the Ivo Belet report on the Future of Professional Football in Europe. It was they who adopted Belet’s recommendations into the White Paper on Sport which became EC/EU policy. It was they who arm twisted UEFA into complying by threatening to create laws to bring football to heel if UEFA failed, although in Platini they had a willing servant.

Closer to home and Salmond’s intervention with HMRC. I wrote to the FM in 2008 about the ;lack of proper governance of Scottish football when Gretna went bust, to be told the SG could not intervene. I think that like the EC they should have found a way to exert influence. Had they done something back then Rangers might not have been able to do what they did.
Having said that, I read Salmond’s letter to Walter Smith on winning a title and he congratulated him on doing so with little money. I hope he has a better grip on government economics if he thinks Smith the Myth had no money. Spent £29M, sold Hutton Cuellaa and Cousins for £19M for a net spend of around £10M. And that is not counting the wages that contributed to driving up Rangers reported net debt from £6M in 2006 to £31M in 2009.
I wonder if Salmond still holds the same view about Smith’s achievements. Would love the question to be asked in Parliament.

he late Jack Kelly.
Kilmarnock Football Club has been requested by Liam Kelly and his family to express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelming number of messages of sympathy extended to them by the supporters, staff and management of Kilmarnock FC and Celtic FC, as well as football clubs from all over Scotland and further afield.
Many people from all walks of life, some with only a passing interest in football, were moved to offer their condolences. Everyone who did so contributed to the Kelly family’s resolve and faith during their time of grief. Their comforting good wishes are acknowledged with gratitude.
The untimely death of Jack Kelly was a private tragedy which captured the grief of the Kelly family in a very public way. Liam thanks the media for respecting his family’s period of mourning and requests that they continue to do so. He has now returned to full training and wishes to focus his attention on progressing his career with Kilmarnock FC . He does not wish to engage in any media interviews at present.
Some good pubs in and around Bothwell. You can now have cocktails in the Silvertrees Hotel after 5pm.

Just a quick comment on Murdo Fraser. Immediately after the UEFA Cup riots in Manchester by the forces of darkness he came out and was critical of the Police – he was Scottish deputy head of the party of law and order at the time. Basically Police aggrevated situation , riot Police should not have been used, it wouldnt have been the wonderful r#nkers fans etc etc. Later had to do retraction when he actually saw what the orcs had been up to. Orc first, Tory second, buffon always.

Will the bids received be making provision to pay the unpaid Paye/Vat/NI of around £9M since last May?
This amount is non negotiable. It was never Rangers money and they had no right to keep it. In other walks of life it is called theft. HMRC cannot do a CVA on this part, it would be condoning robbery
There is maybe an argument that EBTS, if used properly were ok, that Rangers made a mistake (I know, I know) but this simply cannot appy to the outstanding PAYE etc.
Either it gets paid or its the liquidiser. So whatever is in the bid, take off £9M to pay the PAYE bit.
Hectoir should be making this abundantly clear. It is nothing to do with the BTC.
Thought this from last night’s phone in worth repeating. Keevins was the good guy!!!
Keevins last night on Clyde was talking about wrongdoing having to be punished.
A hun phones in to say the BTC is not settled yet so no wrong.
Keevins to be fair said the bill had been presented and was being contested by Rangers so it was fair to say the tax man thought the sums were due.
Then he covered the £9M unpaid VAT/PAYE/NI. The caller admitted this was wrong but was down to CW!!! As if that makes it OK.
Keevins again made the point that this money was not Rangers at all and had simply not been passed on and no deal could be done on that element (a point that has not been brought out by the MSM – a CVA on this is impossible ).
He also went on about the money could have gone on public services, a point I made last October on Clyde almost word for word, but was given the “we canny talk about it” treatment. So things are definitely changing. If the BTC goes against Rangers the moral outrage will sweep all objections to a just outcome away.

I’m a Bothwell born boy, the bishops house no less. The reason I was born in the bishops house is because sectarian bigots drove my family from their home in Inverness and we had no where else to go. The church took us in. True story and there is a lot more to it too.

It’s a lttle more complex than that. HMRC are not preferred. All of the unsecured creditors reuqire to be dealt with equitably. If HMRC get full dollar on their current arrears, so must all the other creditors on theirs.
Not an easy one to square…
