Concerning Irish history

1604

When Celtic make their trip to the ‘neat little town they call Belfast’ (I’ve been off radar recently, assume it’s still described thus) they will have no reason to believe they are ready for a game of football which could determine the success or failure of the coming season.  Instead the players will share a degree of anxiousness.

Cliftonville rank about as low as is possible to get in European competition but they will be better than the Arbroath team which left Glasgow with a draw last season against a Celtic team who were motoring at the time.

We have some concerning history against the Irish.  Celtic’s first ever Champions League qualifier was against St Patrick’s Athletic in 1998.  The visitors left Celtic Park with a 0-0 draw before Celtic won 0-2 in Ireland.  In the 1979-80 European Cup Dundalk gave us a fright.  Celtic won the first leg 3-2, at home, but had to endure a nervous second half in Dundalk as the home side searched, in vain as it turned out, for the goal which would allow them to win the tie on away goals.

Anything less than 100% on Wednesday will see Celtic walk a tightrope………

OG doesn’t sound right sure it doesn’t

It’s on the outskirts of east belfast but just falls short of crawfordsburn still swanky – judges and bookies live over beside it

Night timland super excited for tomorrow safe journeys for all travelling and see you tomorrow night

  2. Give it time BT. He was only in post a couple of days and got a mention in the CST resolution re giving supporters input.

It is a HUGE job and whilst meeting supporters is an essential part, so too is getting the basis for those meetings right so that credibility is built then maintained.

It’s good that McFadden has signed for the murders, it means that the MSM can stop linking him with us. Celtic have a very clear signing policy, buy players who have potential, develop that potential, move them on at a profit. This doesn’t mean that every player should/would be sold after a year. A solid core of players would remain.

Success comes with consistency, if players think they’ll enjoy success they’ll come.

Every team signs players that don’t cut it, how did we come by Henrik?

As is the poor lad with mental health problems. I’ve had to represent people with schizophrenia at appeals as they have been found fit for work.

McFadden would have been an excellent singing for Celtic.

Proven at SPL level, has that wee bit of the unexpected about him and would have shone on our stage.

Just my opinion but we could have got him for a year at under £10K per week and have saw him try his heart out.

He is on 48 caps, he wants that place in the Hall Of Fame, he will score 15+ with the Well this season.

The real scandal is that a doctor held money before their professional judgement. People are being humiliated, embarrassed, belittled and rubbished by this assessment process. Why don’t doctors assert themselves and say ‘We’re not doing this!’ ? It’s because they’re paid for.

Mc Geady coming back is a no no some say. Big Mulgrew came back a better player.

  10. Crushed nuts.

Some atos docs (or nurses as you only need to be a medical profession) have terrible manners and they have to assess a quota per day. The more you do the more you get.

I could go on but if we ever meet up for a shandy I could tell you a tale or two..

I worked in DWP for 20 years before crossing over to welfare rights

  11. crushed nuts/bt – BIG audit going down with ATOS just now. No casework coming back from them – bout 4 weeks now- looks like something going down and it might be them.

However, that doesn’t change the legislation or guidelines that will be followed. HCP’s have targets to meet….much like ra Polis @ FOCUS.

McGinn is like a few guys over the years who have not made it at a point in time at Celtic who were good enough but where up against better options. McGinn was previously competing with Maloney and McGeady.

He’s older wiser and better.. Crucially he is playing a different position.

He has just signed a new contract at AFC so would need to be bought at a premium – perhaps £1.2m.

  13. Aow.

aye…proven not to be Celtic class…….what is it with McFadden?? the most overated player ever to leave Scotland…I remember when Everton mugged Birmingham for him…..Everton fans thought as I did….flash in the pan who showed a flash of brilliance twice a season…Tore Andre Flo springs to mind……forget the highlights he is not Celtic class

Derek Riordin returns to Wolves a better player and would do nicely for me.

  17. Just watching yon suffren comfort advert. I better start on the exercise bike soon or that will be me on the beech in October. .

  18. BT- Had to take a week annual because of aforementioned shortfall of work so doing family stuff all week. Got a pass to go out to watch game tomorrow night. Would be great to meet you and Oldtim but will check with the boss lady 1st as i think we a re in Prestwick on Thursday. Will contact you as soon as I know mate.

Fair enough, but Kevin does have experience in the EPL and internationally, once was a very hot property, surely worth a punt for £2m???

Plus there’s no risk of him failing in the SPL, guaranteed 15 league goals

    HH

  20. Jude, i agree but we lose alot of potential as our status before last year was for us to beat a dead club. Unfortunately we as fans are conditioned in that way so we get impatient and NL go so much stick for losing matches where our young players came in. It would be interesting to see how we would get on if we sold our big hitters, would we win the league, qualify for CL, but NL neck would be on the chopping block.

I feel sorry when we write off players, McGInn never got much of a chance and what all players need is a constant run. I mentioned earlier about playing “diddy” teams and getting cricket scores as that breeds confidence, this pre season has led to nervousness among the support exacerbated by losing 2 of our best players and no suitable replacements yet!!!

Fair point as long as it was made clear to audience it was a listening session

However if it were me I’d want to do it to a schedule like the Roadshows with back up to capture points made then look for patterns to identify the more serious ones.

As I said it is a huge job.

  23. Patrick27, i hear what you are saying but fans with better knowledge than me feel the same. I’d like Toure for £3m from Monaco, watch him on youtube , have a look at that and tell me either him or Doyle. (we have been linked today with him)

Maybe so but as you know the roadshows like the agm can be stage managed. I meant for JP just to sit in body of the hall on the qt as not many people in the hall would actually know him in person. So a wee bit incognito so to speak…
