When Celtic make their trip to the ‘neat little town they call Belfast’ (I’ve been off radar recently, assume it’s still described thus) they will have no reason to believe they are ready for a game of football which could determine the success or failure of the coming season. Instead the players will share a degree of anxiousness.
Cliftonville rank about as low as is possible to get in European competition but they will be better than the Arbroath team which left Glasgow with a draw last season against a Celtic team who were motoring at the time.
We have some concerning history against the Irish. Celtic’s first ever Champions League qualifier was against St Patrick’s Athletic in 1998. The visitors left Celtic Park with a 0-0 draw before Celtic won 0-2 in Ireland. In the 1979-80 European Cup Dundalk gave us a fright. Celtic won the first leg 3-2, at home, but had to endure a nervous second half in Dundalk as the home side searched, in vain as it turned out, for the goal which would allow them to win the tie on away goals.
Anything less than 100% on Wednesday will see Celtic walk a tightrope………

Too true!
That appears to be the benchmark.
The MSM have employed two strategies concerning us………especially since the demise of their beluv’d Huns……….
1)Discuss embdy but Celtic at all costs………
2) When they have to, and only when they have to…. scoff, downplay them and encourage spurious garbage linking us with low calibre rockets…….
They know nothing, we don’t do our business via dead media.

Ibrahima Toure concedes he may have to leave Monaco this summer, with Celtic rumoured to be interested in doing a deal.
26 June 2013
Monaco attacker Ibrahima Toure has revealed that his future at the club is uncertain following the arrival of a host of big-money signings.
The Senegal international scored 18 goals in 35 appearances last season as the wealthy club secured promotion from Ligue 2 as champions.
But, after Monaco again evidenced their financial muscle by acquiring the likes of Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez, Toure has admitted that he could look to move on.
“I wanted to show I can play in the French top league. But if the coach doesn’t give you the chance it’s normal to think of an exit,” he said.
Monaco have also secured the signatures of Ricardo Carvalho and Joao Moutinho during the off-season and are tipped to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for honours in the French top flight next term.

Have Celtic told Norwich to sling their hook yet?
We seem to have already discounted Amibe Balde as a striker based on 3 run-outs in Germany. So, no trust in NFL’s, and the scouting team’s, ability. Healthy criticism is fine. Unreasoning panic is not.
Gettagrip CRC
kikinthenakas, i was impressed when i saw him on youtube, get him on loan teach him the celtic way, monaco only have 18,500 capacity stadium, he will be blown away here. He would be an able replacement for Mr Hooper should he go imo

Your mention of Ballyshannon reminds me of my most surreal moment of having breakfast in the Shamrock Chinese Restaurant at 4/5 in the morning and then getting a lift back to our B&B in the back of a black maria when attending the Ballyshannon folk festival in the 1990s.
Another night/morning making our way back from BallyS to our B&B nature called and I took a we jump over a wee wall which was 10 ft the other side.
Took me a few days to recover from that trip.

Have Norwich even set a deadline?

Too true.
The laptop loyal need to sell papers to their hun readership so itll be all spin, propaganda and lies. Not only that, they are usually last with any news, being the lazy bunch they are. I excuse Glenn Gibbons, Hugh McDonald and a couple others here but yes, some Scottish rags are almost as deed as their beloved masters.
Ahhhh!……..
The Ballyshannon folk festival in the 90’s………………..
A very happy hunting ground…….where the “craic” was indeed mighty!

paolosboots-agree,had a poor workrate in a lot of games last season,he wouldn’t be bursting out the jersey running his contract down.Surprised PL has let it get to this stage to be honest.
Tim Tanium, its a nice part of the country, summers were spent there when we were growing up was brilliant every year (except the one when celtic came to Bundoran and Charlie left was upset that year as h’d been phenomenal. Hope to go over next week, however internet is “dial up” so a sabbatical from cqn me thinks.
If we are interested in a player we have been linked to in the past (Billy Sharp) I would prefer if it were Adam Le Fondre.
BTW we are not going to sign an experienced striker who grabs 20 goals plus a year at the highest level. We are going to sign one with potential, develop and then sell on in a couple of years time. This is the business model bhoys….get used to it.
If we sell Hooper I think we will try to sign…….Liam Griffiths. Not happy about it in terms of the person but can’t deny he has a wonderful left foot. I also feel it in my water as I left my bladder over a wall in Ballyshannon.
Ibrahima Toure ?
For what it’s worth —-
Italian rumor mongers have him considering an offer from Al Nasr .
Good enough to have played in China , Morocco, Iran , The United Arab Emirates and the French second tier.
Would like to see us go for this guy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfre%C3%B0_Finnbogason
A goal scorer wherever he’s been, fits the signing profile of young enough to add value and from a team who seem to have the knack of picking up good young strikers
Bada he might be “bursting” the jersey.
Bankiebhoy its still to be had, FourGreenFields is just back from his hols
Just want to let everybody know that I’ve set myself a deadline of 16:00hrs (GMT) for my next cup of coffee.
This will be followed by a deadline of 17:00hrs for the first pint of the day. It is Ramadan after all.

Kayal33 Good shout came across this guy during the season and he’s banging them in also.
masty – see you in the Rock between 2 and 3 the mara.
Tiny Tim – if you post on here Wednesday when ye arrive- i can call into town that day and get you organised.
HT – houl yer wheest is right about the Landsdowne, nice hotel very close to Solitude. If that doesn’t suit try the Balmoral – it’s West of the city,a good wee bit further up the Falls close to Andytown – very easy to get transport, and the important thing about the West is that it’s all Celtic territory.
If all else fails i can get digs sorted for yous.
Should be plenty of time on Wednesday to take a wee tour of the Falls if yous are interested in the place.

Indeed the craic was good….too good for my liver no doubt:-)
One of those trips included a soujourn to Glen Columkille the family home of my best friend. That had its moments too.
Also remember attending a “disco” and all the locals going wild dancing to “Sweet Caroline”.
Dubaibhoy, how is Ramadan going for you? was in Dubai this time last year was an experience! was sorry to leave would go back tomorrow. Had great night in Dubliner Bar the night we beat Barca. Met some great people out there and learned a bit more about how others live.
Where is Marcus Berg when you need him?
OldTransferChatCSC
Kayal33, didn’t realise he spent time in scotland, that would be an easier sell, however i am worried by all these prospects we are getting , i think there has to be a balance and with £50m+ from last year CL & sales of players (have included hooper) we can afford to push the boat out.
Kayal33

steinreignedsupreme-he was indeed mate. This issue has been dragging on since January and is a distraction we can do without IMO.If he didn’t want to sign the contract he should have been transfer listed.HH
Paolosboots,
For ex-pats Ramadan is great. 6 hour day, no traffic on the roads and parking aplenty.
The flip side is no live music in bars, crazy driving just before sunset as they all try to get to their desired venue for breaking fast, and lots of bad breath during daytime.
I don’t know why, but when I fry up the ole bacon sarnies in the daytime in Ramadan, somehow they taste even better.
I remember a game at CP in the early sixties. The Real Madrid full back was toying with the Celtic winger.
“He’ll never make it” I said to my da.
Bobby Lennox proved me wrong and the moral is supporters are bad judges of players so I rarely opine on guys not showing well until they have had enough time to convince me they are not Bobby Lennox in disguise.
Kojo
I only saw Balde in the 1st game in Germany. Not impressed. But neither was I impressed the 1st time I saw KoK.
Not saying for one minute that Balde compares but I AM saying 1st impressions are often misleading. Of course, you’ve never been wrong about anything before. Trust NFL and don’t let your nerves get the better of you.
We will beat Cliftonville comfortably. HH
