Concerning Irish history

1604

When Celtic make their trip to the ‘neat little town they call Belfast’ (I’ve been off radar recently, assume it’s still described thus) they will have no reason to believe they are ready for a game of football which could determine the success or failure of the coming season.  Instead the players will share a degree of anxiousness.

Cliftonville rank about as low as is possible to get in European competition but they will be better than the Arbroath team which left Glasgow with a draw last season against a Celtic team who were motoring at the time.

We have some concerning history against the Irish.  Celtic’s first ever Champions League qualifier was against St Patrick’s Athletic in 1998.  The visitors left Celtic Park with a 0-0 draw before Celtic won 0-2 in Ireland.  In the 1979-80 European Cup Dundalk gave us a fright.  Celtic won the first leg 3-2, at home, but had to endure a nervous second half in Dundalk as the home side searched, in vain as it turned out, for the goal which would allow them to win the tie on away goals.

Anything less than 100% on Wednesday will see Celtic walk a tightrope………

Im not sure that getting Aiden back would be a good idea football history tends to say that going back to a former club rarely works.I think it may be worth the risk to go after Austin as he certainly knows how to score goals and we could see at a medical how big a risk his dodgey shoulder is.However,I am sure Neil and Peter know what they are doing.H.H.

Given my opinion that Neil has little time for anyone who doesn’t toe the line-the obvious example being Tony Watt, and another possibility being Alan Thompson-and his past history with Aiden,I reckon you can forget it.

That’s why I feel confident with my opinions on the subject.

The passionate dualism and the consequential and entertaining paradoxical ramblings often recorded on here – by many – different posters, is often merely indicative of the depth of passion those particular posters have for Celtic Football Club. Each of us has our own character, our own personality, our own strengths and our own weaknesses; our own values and beliefs and our own capacity to just switch off too. The Celtic rollercoaster is never the same experience for all the support. Some are content with the SFA and the status quo whilst some fear for the future with legitimacy. Some supporters do wrap, and comfort, themselves in the strength of the balance sheet thinking that a few quid in the bank will prove panacea to any and all evils that may visit us. Others, with a fond apathy, detach the club form the PLC and want the team on the field to be the main beneficiary of club and supporter generated funds; lest we get humped out of Europe again followed by a turmoil of a season. That is quite understandable to me and I for one do not think it should be mocked out of hand with subjective blind faith.

I don’t know a single Celtic PLC supporter. I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to have such an existence as my devotion.

Sydney Tim is a pain in the arse with the repetitiveness of his concerns but that is not to say that his concerns are totally devoid of credence. I get the impression that some of his detractors, if not share some of his fears, have at least an empathy with them but don’t have the strength of his perennial distressing conviction. Don’t get upset by what he says; well not yet anyway!

I can never quite understand why people get so distraught in despair of a hypothetical Armageddon; we’ll either qualify or we won’t.

This is a blog, a global church of supporters from many, and varied, walks of life with very few of those who post here being professional writers. Sometimes, with their humble limitations, people struggle to articulate their grievances. No single Celtic Supporter, or employee of the club, has the right to despotic indifference.

Celtic_First, I can think of quite a few occasions in life where I would have preferred very much to be proved wrong.

My point is you are asking Hooper to make decisions based on media speculation.

These media stories indicate Hooper is definitely leaving, yet the team he is joining changes seamlessly from day to day. Most of it is guesswork.

Meanwhile, Celtic are going about business without making any fuss.

If Hooper leaves it will happen under Celtic’s terms. He has little control over the situation, so telling him to get on with it is pointless.

What a night that was! My two football obsessions playing each other for a place in European cup 1/4 final. Explaining to my 14 and 11 year old sons that Dundalk were the width of the crossbar away from a last 8 match against Real Madrid and taking stock and realising the enormity of it all myself. I was only 9 myself at the time and still remember most of the match. my dear friend Tommy McConville missed from 6 yards with minutes to go when it seemed easier to score. A Dundalk legend, that will, unfortunately be always remembered for that miss. What a special group of players Dundalk had at that time. One other piece of action from that match I will always remember was Danny McGrain stuck at the corner flag, surrounded by 3 Dundalk players when he flicked the ball up and lobed it over the 3 players and ran through them and set up an attack, an incredible piece of skill. Goose bumps just thinking about that night. What a night next Wednesday for all Cliftonville fans, enjoy

Of the replacements mentioned only Charlie Austin sounds feasible (age, price, goals per game, sell-on value) but he apparently failed a medical elsewhere.

I surmise that we must have plans on someone else off radar (i.e not SPL,EPL, Championship). I also guess that the deal maybe contingent on CL qualification.
