Concertina league, frustration, Joey for halftime draw

1110

We waited three long years to get there but I suspect I’m not the only one who will be relived we’re not plunging straight into another Champions League game. Most Celtic fans shrugged the Camp Nou defeat off, but I hear the players have taken it all a bit personal. They want to respond appropriately in that tournament, however, there is the small matter of a trip to Inverness to deal with first.

Wheels come of the Celtic barrow at Inverness. Repeatedly. On paper, the Highlanders have endured an awful start to the season, but if you drill down you’ll see that their five league games have seen them play Aberdeen and Hearts away, and lose a local derby to Ross County. Form will improve when they face lesser-resourced teams.

Statistically, you are more likely to drop points away from home after an away European tie than at any other time. Ronny Deila defied these odds during his tenure, let’s hope Brendan manages to channel the frustration in the dressing room into a performance and result against Inverness.

While Celtic and Hearts have opened up a gap at the top of the table, the rest of the league went through a concertina last weekend. Any team from 10th placed Kilmarnock and up could go third over the weekend.  Does that make it the most competitive in Europe?  You could make a case, the champions aside.

Joint-fourth Ross County will go third if they win at Ibrox, while Aberdeen, Dundee and St Johnstone will all fancy their chances of being third if County can only take a point.

I was pretty keen on Joey Barton heading to Ibrox this season and his actions over the last 24 hours show why. No idea what happened on Tuesday, but he issued an apology of sorts on Twitter last night, before deleting it, and then went on live radio this morning saying, “I don’t think I’ve done anything to apologise for”.

You know best, Joey. Don’t take any crap from a manager with five games of top-flight football on his CV, or team-mates who don’t deserve to be on the same field as you. Apologise for telling it as it is? I don’t think so.

Mark my words, we’ll have him doing the halftime draw soon enough.

The Kano Foundation

Sannabhoy asked me to share this from The Kano Foundation, who will support their 5000th child at the Kilmarnock game later this month.

5000 kids! I’ve no idea the extent of the social impact The Kano Foundation is having, but it’s awe inspiring. It grew from the CQN community, when our pal Martin Kane, who is no longer with us, took seriously ill.

After we Brought Martin Home, the guys involved realised they would be able to harness this force for good going forward, and the Foundation was born – out of your efforts.

Here’s what Sannabhoy had to say:

“The Kano Foundation is holding our annual bucket collection at Celtic Park before the Killie game on the 24th of September. This game also marks the 5000th child that we will take through the turnstiles to see Celtic.

“We are really keen/ desperate to have as many people help us with the bucket collection as possible as every penny raised goes towards allowing more children to get to see Celtic.

“If you can spare an hour or so please get in touch with us as we would be absolutely delighted to have as many people as possible rattling buckets. Please drop a note to Sannabhoy at Sannabhoy@thekanofoundation.com or go online to our website The Kano Foundation.

“Every single volunteer is worth about £50-100 to us so the more we have, the more we can raise and the more kids we can take to Celtic Park. We are now up to 102 child tickets at each game meaning we can now take almost 2000 kids each season.

Thanks and Hail Hail.”

You’ll speak to a hundred Celtic fans, have a great day and the weather’s going to be warm and sunny, I promise, so go sign up.

  1. Cheers Gerry, probably not starting than, or it would have been a story.

    Hope Dembele stay healthy :-)

Sinclair for the first goal, Eric each way.

Don’t know that, 4-6 weeks is very bad news, we lack cover big time with a crazy schedule of games approaching ( we will draw the new Huns in the league cup semi if we both get through, it’s a certainty.)

    Def hope Dembele stays fit!

I’d also like to see Gordon back in goals. I suspect I’ll see neither. Mon the hoops

  6. Hail! Hail! Many thanks for all the good wishes as I head off another chapter. Most people my age think I am daft leaving a secure local job to get back in the selling game with a foreign company..it may well be the case but something about this excites me and I’d still back myself in in a fair fight.

I spent a week in Stockholm years ago and know the price of booze!, if the new company were to ĺift ĺift year bar tab I would put them out of business, so I will be well behaved. This time the office is in Goteborg ( getting into the lingo already) but I will spend most of the day job in the UK eventually.

Circuit training done, run completed, fillet steak with goats cheese salad for lunch before the Hoops game.

Maybe a couple of glasses of Rioja with lunch won’t do any harm.

I too am enjoying the reality check that is second rangers position in this league. I repeat it often. A poor football team. Very average players. An unqualified manager. A team that can’t defend or indeed score against professional teams.

The dafties in the msm who said they would challenge Celtic for the league ignoring the factual stats and form.

    Its brilliantly funny.

I even think their current fourth is a false standing. They can only score a goal a game. They are -2 on goal difference. Another team will spank them soon. I am convinced of it.

Its also noticeable they are so like the 80s version of first rangers, so dire, so dreadful, that the referees can’t even help them.

An administration event and a point deduction will see them fighting relegation. A proper admin event with a real authority shedding players and costs.

I am convinced its going to happen.

Having said that. I really hoped to never see them in the top league. Never darken our door again.

They bring nothing but hatred and bile.

As a buy the buy. Compare the starts Aberdeen and hearts had last year to this one. Were we not all tied around 15 points at this stage. Real competition. I can’t see that happening this time around. We are already sprinting away and will be mapping them by Christmas. So these guys big games will be against second rangers. They will all want to pump them

    Keep it lit.

How about we don’t post links to the daily ranger and the like.

You’re adding to their revenue every time you access these links.

Surely it would be better to cut and paste the article instead.

We don’t have to fall out over this and I believe your heart is in the right place but this rag gave us “Thugs and Thieves” and I won’t ever forget that.

All I was suggesting was that if someone thinks an article is worth reading said article is cut and pasted on here instead of linking to it.

That way we don’t contribute to the coffers of these rags. I can’t see anything wrong with this suggestion.

  9. I have noticed that some Bhoys on here asking if Celts are on TV etc, and on being told BT sport it seems that some don’t have for one reason or another ?

When I first called up BT sport it was £19.99 a month.

I was just about to ask for a reduction when the girl advised me that she would give me it for half price if I agreed to have it for 12 months ?

It was an offer I couldn’t refuse considering the amount of games that they have the contract for.

My advice. for what it’s worth is to simply ask for a deal/ reduction. It has went up £1 a month 2/3 months ago. You also have the legend Chris Sutton giving it both barrels, and not scared of shooting from the hip, unlike Hun pundits !

Celtic v ICT, go to it Celts UNLEASH HELL !

  21. If the Sheep score stays like that now it means the Govan Galacticos drop to 5th and they go to Pittodrie next weekend.

Celtic if they win today take a significant lead with a game in hand.

Use the pain and anger of the other night Celtic and get that gap growing even more.
