Concertina league, frustration, Joey for halftime draw

1110

We waited three long years to get there but I suspect I’m not the only one who will be relived we’re not plunging straight into another Champions League game. Most Celtic fans shrugged the Camp Nou defeat off, but I hear the players have taken it all a bit personal. They want to respond appropriately in that tournament, however, there is the small matter of a trip to Inverness to deal with first.

Wheels come of the Celtic barrow at Inverness. Repeatedly. On paper, the Highlanders have endured an awful start to the season, but if you drill down you’ll see that their five league games have seen them play Aberdeen and Hearts away, and lose a local derby to Ross County. Form will improve when they face lesser-resourced teams.

Statistically, you are more likely to drop points away from home after an away European tie than at any other time. Ronny Deila defied these odds during his tenure, let’s hope Brendan manages to channel the frustration in the dressing room into a performance and result against Inverness.

While Celtic and Hearts have opened up a gap at the top of the table, the rest of the league went through a concertina last weekend. Any team from 10th placed Kilmarnock and up could go third over the weekend.  Does that make it the most competitive in Europe?  You could make a case, the champions aside.

Joint-fourth Ross County will go third if they win at Ibrox, while Aberdeen, Dundee and St Johnstone will all fancy their chances of being third if County can only take a point.

I was pretty keen on Joey Barton heading to Ibrox this season and his actions over the last 24 hours show why. No idea what happened on Tuesday, but he issued an apology of sorts on Twitter last night, before deleting it, and then went on live radio this morning saying, “I don’t think I’ve done anything to apologise for”.

You know best, Joey. Don’t take any crap from a manager with five games of top-flight football on his CV, or team-mates who don’t deserve to be on the same field as you. Apologise for telling it as it is? I don’t think so.

Mark my words, we’ll have him doing the halftime draw soon enough.

The Kano Foundation

Sannabhoy asked me to share this from The Kano Foundation, who will support their 5000th child at the Kilmarnock game later this month.

5000 kids! I’ve no idea the extent of the social impact The Kano Foundation is having, but it’s awe inspiring. It grew from the CQN community, when our pal Martin Kane, who is no longer with us, took seriously ill.

After we Brought Martin Home, the guys involved realised they would be able to harness this force for good going forward, and the Foundation was born – out of your efforts.

Here’s what Sannabhoy had to say:

“The Kano Foundation is holding our annual bucket collection at Celtic Park before the Killie game on the 24th of September. This game also marks the 5000th child that we will take through the turnstiles to see Celtic.

“We are really keen/ desperate to have as many people help us with the bucket collection as possible as every penny raised goes towards allowing more children to get to see Celtic.

“If you can spare an hour or so please get in touch with us as we would be absolutely delighted to have as many people as possible rattling buckets. Please drop a note to Sannabhoy at Sannabhoy@thekanofoundation.com or go online to our website The Kano Foundation.

“Every single volunteer is worth about £50-100 to us so the more we have, the more we can raise and the more kids we can take to Celtic Park. We are now up to 102 child tickets at each game meaning we can now take almost 2000 kids each season.

Thanks and Hail Hail.”

You’ll speak to a hundred Celtic fans, have a great day and the weather’s going to be warm and sunny, I promise, so go sign up.

Newsnow has a link to the Daily Garbage to which my tutors on C.Q.N. have educated me to avoid linking.

Sad insight into the later , post Celtic , days of wee Jinky.

    There may be another source.

  4. Hun media is brilliant.

I don’t think Warbs tactics are the problem (are they any different to that of Guardiola or Wenger?)…the problem is he signed way too many new players in one window. And we can hardly blame him for that…we all were crying out for it. The manager is under the cosh lads…he did a lot for our club last season, so let’s show him some loyalty. If we’re still struggling in Oct/Nov, it’s another matter, but I don’t think we will be. We’ll get better and better.

Comparing a magical hatted tactician who struggled to beat plumbers and brickies in a lower division against guys who have had success at a very high level is a tad delusional no matter what the mssm feeds you.

  5. Just been reading that Sevco have brought out new home tops/strip, and are on sale ?

Is there any latest news on whether Puma are taking legal action against this mankies mob, for breach of contract ? It seems to have went quite on that front.

As for barton, if the Huns rip up his contract, could we see him taking them to Court also for constructive dismissal ?

I would much rather they kept the daftie.

M sure that was a rock song a few years back called ” Freefalling” ?

    Good morning.

I noticed you posting last night that SFA found King fit and proper, my understanding is they didn’t.

That’s why Ashley withdrew his court case with the SFA at the lat moment. They supplied him with the information he required. MSM/level 5 spun this as a victory for SFA, not in Ashleys camp it wasn’t. King is director of the business side but was not passed fit and proper to be chairman of RFC. This was sourced from John James site and i think Phil Mac too but it was a while back.

  10. Good morning friends from a currently dry, but high cloud covered East Kilbride. Looking forward to our game this afternoon and hoping that last Tuesday’s loss is transubstantiated into a victory for us of a similar margin.

  11. archdeaconsbench on

Read a few reports over the last few days linking Brian Kennedy with Sevco, again. Subsequently people on here and elsewhere, are asking ‘why, what’s in it for him?’

In my opinion, nothing. Same as the first time. He just the latest in a long line of deluded chancers with borderline sociopathic tendencies, who seem desperate to align themselves with the carnage over at mordor. Like King, he’s no more than a tyre kicker and just wants his face on the telly…..

  12. Form from James Forrest coincided with his release from detention in the dreaded wide left position at Celtic and now the latest detainee Stuart Armstrong shows some glimpses of play that will get him in the Celtic engine room, proper from time to time at least.

Whether either of that pair will start at Inverness is another matter because it’s a squad game especially up there, were points are a premium and Celtic often toil to get passéd a very stationary bus.

Patrick Roberts may be the key to unlock the door after suffering in Spain with the rest of the side who failed to mount the herculean effort required to the trouble the super human Catalunyan monster. Tom Rogic showed more form last Saturday than Stuart has in most of his time at Celtic, even though he’s a nice speaker on CTV, he’ll need learn the art of getting down ,getting dirty and getting up again, if he’s to have a Celtic career after all.

The other talking points may be whether Cristian Gamboa retains his place this time in a more regular back four, and will Mikel Lustig make way for fresh legs?- maybe unlikely after such a suffocating debut. Can Craig Gordon ‘play’ his way back into the side as Dorus De Vries has done nothing of note? – unlikely as yet and it seems BR has made his bed.

One things certain, a new hero will lead the Celtic line.

Score forecast Inverness 0 Celtic 4

Health wise, I posted on Tuesday after Barca game, as that gent Corkcelt was concerned that he hadn’t heard from me. I thought that was a lovely touch from him. I will keep it brief.

The staff at The Beatson are fabulous, whoever hires them and trains them do a fabulous job. If any of you work in The Beatson or have family who do be very proud. I’ve been there 3 times now and I can’t praise them highly enough.

Big day for Mrs VFR today as well. She has been helping the Parish Priest prepare 5 candidates for reception into the Catholic Faith.

For many different reasons they were unable to be received into the Faith until today. So it’s happening at 10:30 Mass today in St Mary’s in The Calton. She’s been like a clucking hen over the past couple of days.

I was roped into doing a special cake for them last night and I’ve been advised that I will be the official photographer. Just been handed a dress shirt to iron and told that I will be suited and booted!

As for the wee dame, good luck to her today. I told my grandson very early on that the miracle at the Consecration was called transubstantiation. He used it in school one day and the teacher brushed him off saying he didn’t know what he was talking about. He proceeded to give her a word perfect explanation. She wasn’t as pleased as she should’ve been!
