Concertina league, frustration, Joey for halftime draw

1110

We waited three long years to get there but I suspect I’m not the only one who will be relived we’re not plunging straight into another Champions League game. Most Celtic fans shrugged the Camp Nou defeat off, but I hear the players have taken it all a bit personal. They want to respond appropriately in that tournament, however, there is the small matter of a trip to Inverness to deal with first.

Wheels come of the Celtic barrow at Inverness. Repeatedly. On paper, the Highlanders have endured an awful start to the season, but if you drill down you’ll see that their five league games have seen them play Aberdeen and Hearts away, and lose a local derby to Ross County. Form will improve when they face lesser-resourced teams.

Statistically, you are more likely to drop points away from home after an away European tie than at any other time. Ronny Deila defied these odds during his tenure, let’s hope Brendan manages to channel the frustration in the dressing room into a performance and result against Inverness.

While Celtic and Hearts have opened up a gap at the top of the table, the rest of the league went through a concertina last weekend. Any team from 10th placed Kilmarnock and up could go third over the weekend.  Does that make it the most competitive in Europe?  You could make a case, the champions aside.

Joint-fourth Ross County will go third if they win at Ibrox, while Aberdeen, Dundee and St Johnstone will all fancy their chances of being third if County can only take a point.

I was pretty keen on Joey Barton heading to Ibrox this season and his actions over the last 24 hours show why. No idea what happened on Tuesday, but he issued an apology of sorts on Twitter last night, before deleting it, and then went on live radio this morning saying, “I don’t think I’ve done anything to apologise for”.

You know best, Joey. Don’t take any crap from a manager with five games of top-flight football on his CV, or team-mates who don’t deserve to be on the same field as you. Apologise for telling it as it is? I don’t think so.

Mark my words, we’ll have him doing the halftime draw soon enough.

The Kano Foundation

Sannabhoy asked me to share this from The Kano Foundation, who will support their 5000th child at the Kilmarnock game later this month.

5000 kids! I’ve no idea the extent of the social impact The Kano Foundation is having, but it’s awe inspiring. It grew from the CQN community, when our pal Martin Kane, who is no longer with us, took seriously ill.

After we Brought Martin Home, the guys involved realised they would be able to harness this force for good going forward, and the Foundation was born – out of your efforts.

Here’s what Sannabhoy had to say:

“The Kano Foundation is holding our annual bucket collection at Celtic Park before the Killie game on the 24th of September. This game also marks the 5000th child that we will take through the turnstiles to see Celtic.

“We are really keen/ desperate to have as many people help us with the bucket collection as possible as every penny raised goes towards allowing more children to get to see Celtic.

“If you can spare an hour or so please get in touch with us as we would be absolutely delighted to have as many people as possible rattling buckets. Please drop a note to Sannabhoy at Sannabhoy@thekanofoundation.com or go online to our website The Kano Foundation.

“Every single volunteer is worth about £50-100 to us so the more we have, the more we can raise and the more kids we can take to Celtic Park. We are now up to 102 child tickets at each game meaning we can now take almost 2000 kids each season.

Thanks and Hail Hail.”

You’ll speak to a hundred Celtic fans, have a great day and the weather’s going to be warm and sunny, I promise, so go sign up.

  1. I love Celtic

    I did not love Rangers

I do not love New Rangers

I particularly do not love the fans of New Rangers who appear, in the main, to be the same fans who supported Rangers

I don’t mind anyone having a dig at new Rangers, or their fans; in fact I find most of it quite amusing.

Especially on a day when celtic don’t have a game.

Provided Dundee and Aberdeen don’t draw, one of them will move up to 4th in the leage, pushing the team that’s currently there into 5th spot.

Celtic are 2 points clear. With 2 games in hand. In the middle of September.

    LIFE’S GOOD!!!

Turkeybhoy, who’s the Kennedy you mentioned? Is it the guy who sniffed around the corpse before?

What’s the story there and where has this come from?

Dont know if there is any substance to it but JJ and Phil were on about it.JJ heard that Bouffant had approached Kennedy.Phil said something similar.Remember this was the guy that would not top Charlies 5.5 million.I think he bid around half that amount.

  3. When I saw those photos of those army guys dropping into ipox today my first thought was ” Dope on a Rope” ?

Did Dodgy Dave not realise those guys got in without paying ?

For anyone to suggest that we shouldn’t be looking at what is happening across the Clyde, fair enough you are entitled to your opinion, but you should remember that Sevco and the most if the media and ex players etc, all had this mob as our ” nearest challengers”. In effect they have dictated the terms and as per usual they have brought all gloating upon themselves, just like everything else they turn their hand too.

When you put yourself forward like they have ( whilst being in complete denial of the most basic errors that you are committing on a daily basis), then you are setting yourself up for a big fall !

I hear and read all too often Sevco fans accusing we Celts of being obsessed with them ? It’s not obsession, it’s called karma.

Why shouldn’t we Celts take an interest when they constantly tell us that they are going do this, and do that ?

That clown Sevco player Windyass was telling us yesterday, ” just you wait til next time”, obviously meaning the next Celtic v dead FC game ( if it happens) ?

In life you usually reap what you sow, when they died that got away with murder , as they should have been kicked out of fitba for good. Despite the SFA, SPL and the media bending over backwards to help them, instead if showing any DIGNITY and or humility, they respond by giving it watp etc.

Hell mend them, may they rot in that furnace of flames .

You took me back about 30years there, my wee maw always turned our clothes inside out putting into the wash (something I still do) as a wee bhoy it puzzled me as the dirt was on the outside… But I now do so myself ?

Apart face that the Huns will still be the Huns the matter what entity they are following

  7. Another Brick In The Wall being played by a local band in a local pub in Bury St Edmunds????

Well, I suppose we don’t need no education is fitting in the country….

To be fair the guitarist played it perfectly.

  8. SFA found Dave King to be ” fit and proper” …they were right, he’s a fit and proper glib and shameless liar !

It really seems to me that any Sevco fan right now ( after failing before), should now be demanding that King comes clean, either he’s got the £30 million to put in , or he does have it but won’t put it in, or he disnae have it ?

    Simples !

  9. Hi, been a couple of years since I posted. Various reasons for that, but I’ll keep them to myself so as not to start an argument with first post!

So anyway, here’s the team I’d like to see tomorrow.

    Gordon:

    Ralston, Toure, Sviatchenko, Tierney:

    Roberts, Brown, McGregor, Sinclair:

    Rogic:

    Dembele.

Subs: Gamboa, Aitchison,Henderson, Christie, Armstrong, Forrrest, O’Connell.

This is assuming Leigh isn’t fit and Broony is.

Team I think is only controversial in having Ralston starting and Bitton nowhere near it. Giving some of the subs like Henderson, Christie and Armstrong a bit of game time also important IMO.

  10. ALMORE

Katie, sonny, no frontiers are always on my playlists after a few peroni or golden ales. Lucky enough to have have seen Mary live a few time and she was fantastic. Hope you get a ticket sorted out, I asked my brother in law and uncle but both laughed and said about as rare as rocking horse shi*. As you know everybody wants to be there not just all of Mayo and Dublin. I will be shouting for Mayo (underdogs) and as a Kildare man couldn’t bring myself to support the Dubs….you know how it is.

Regardless enjoy your day and as long as Celtic prevail tomorrow we will both be happy.

  11. HUDDLE…

I don’t think they’re the same club but the disdain I hold them in is the same.

Nice wan with Cornershop link, great wee song. ;))

  12. Davidopoulos 10.29

Then 10yrs later Jeanster were charging you £25 for jeans that the colour was worn out of :-)

Partizan….. I hope Doris has a great Celtic career but I also hope that BR guy plays our best goalie Craig Gordon is Celtic’s number 1, just a pity he’s not BR’s number 1…….. As a manger he has too stand by his mistake and play the 2nd best goalie at the club because seemingly he is a good sweeper…..if he’s that good play him behind big Kolo T

Sipsini, any tips for getting shite stains aff curtains ya auld mother ye………………..:_)

Turkeybhoy / DD, I remember him now. Him and peeness tried to buy some of the dead stuff for about half a million.

huddle, who on here has admitted to you that they think the current crew at the red Victorian lavy are the same club. I’ve not seen it, and doubt I ever will. Nope, I’m not having that one.

  15. PARTIZAN…

I think De Vries will start,he seems to be Brendan’s number 1.

I also like the idea of Ralston getting a run out but Gamboa hasn’t played a lot recently and needs games, and with him being ahead of young Anthony in the queue I reckon he’ll start.

No matter the 11 Brendan picks I expect a win.

  16. BABASONICOS71

Agree completely that De Vries and Gamboa will play. Gordon and Ralston would be my preference though.

  17. PARTIZAN…

Good to have these ‘problems’ within our squad, last season we were focusing more on who not to play.

From what i’ve seen of Ralston he’s got what’s needed to make it,loves a tackle by the looks of it and built like a boxer.Handy qualities for a full back.

    4-1 to our bhoys tomorrow.

Sipsini, wise words, where should I buy the knew curtains……………………….:_)

Pity about the bet today, I was banking on that for my swally money for next Wednesday. Are the bookie wise to the fact they’re gash or will we still get good odds on Aberdeen rodgering them mair stupid?

Reckon we should double our bet and double our payback.
