Concertina league, frustration, Joey for halftime draw

1110

We waited three long years to get there but I suspect I’m not the only one who will be relived we’re not plunging straight into another Champions League game. Most Celtic fans shrugged the Camp Nou defeat off, but I hear the players have taken it all a bit personal. They want to respond appropriately in that tournament, however, there is the small matter of a trip to Inverness to deal with first.

Wheels come of the Celtic barrow at Inverness. Repeatedly. On paper, the Highlanders have endured an awful start to the season, but if you drill down you’ll see that their five league games have seen them play Aberdeen and Hearts away, and lose a local derby to Ross County. Form will improve when they face lesser-resourced teams.

Statistically, you are more likely to drop points away from home after an away European tie than at any other time. Ronny Deila defied these odds during his tenure, let’s hope Brendan manages to channel the frustration in the dressing room into a performance and result against Inverness.

While Celtic and Hearts have opened up a gap at the top of the table, the rest of the league went through a concertina last weekend. Any team from 10th placed Kilmarnock and up could go third over the weekend.  Does that make it the most competitive in Europe?  You could make a case, the champions aside.

Joint-fourth Ross County will go third if they win at Ibrox, while Aberdeen, Dundee and St Johnstone will all fancy their chances of being third if County can only take a point.

I was pretty keen on Joey Barton heading to Ibrox this season and his actions over the last 24 hours show why. No idea what happened on Tuesday, but he issued an apology of sorts on Twitter last night, before deleting it, and then went on live radio this morning saying, “I don’t think I’ve done anything to apologise for”.

You know best, Joey. Don’t take any crap from a manager with five games of top-flight football on his CV, or team-mates who don’t deserve to be on the same field as you. Apologise for telling it as it is? I don’t think so.

Mark my words, we’ll have him doing the halftime draw soon enough.

The Kano Foundation

Sannabhoy asked me to share this from The Kano Foundation, who will support their 5000th child at the Kilmarnock game later this month.

5000 kids! I’ve no idea the extent of the social impact The Kano Foundation is having, but it’s awe inspiring. It grew from the CQN community, when our pal Martin Kane, who is no longer with us, took seriously ill.

After we Brought Martin Home, the guys involved realised they would be able to harness this force for good going forward, and the Foundation was born – out of your efforts.

Here’s what Sannabhoy had to say:

“The Kano Foundation is holding our annual bucket collection at Celtic Park before the Killie game on the 24th of September. This game also marks the 5000th child that we will take through the turnstiles to see Celtic.

“We are really keen/ desperate to have as many people help us with the bucket collection as possible as every penny raised goes towards allowing more children to get to see Celtic.

“If you can spare an hour or so please get in touch with us as we would be absolutely delighted to have as many people as possible rattling buckets. Please drop a note to Sannabhoy at Sannabhoy@thekanofoundation.com or go online to our website The Kano Foundation.

“Every single volunteer is worth about £50-100 to us so the more we have, the more we can raise and the more kids we can take to Celtic Park. We are now up to 102 child tickets at each game meaning we can now take almost 2000 kids each season.

Thanks and Hail Hail.”

You’ll speak to a hundred Celtic fans, have a great day and the weather’s going to be warm and sunny, I promise, so go sign up.

    Well done Mini.

A very good friend of mine Sam. L was in charge of fund raising at St Andrews for many years until he retired a few years ago.

The amount of money that has to be raised every year just to break even is staggering.

2 sportspeople who Sam praised over and over again and said they couldn’t do enough for the hospice were John Higsgins and Arthur Numan

  5. What a relief, after having to play in that rigged Champions League, to get back today to that bastion of honesty, fairness and Sporting Integrity, the Scoddish Professional Farceball League.

I mean, imagine UEFA conferring Pot 1 status on a club playing in the CL for the first time?

    What a joke!

OK, the SPFL has conferred 54 top tier titles on a club playing in its premier competition for the first time, and aged it by 140 years, but that’s a mere detail, which only the worst of haters would bring up.

I mean, if it’s done in support of the Big Lie, on which the game up here is based, it’s worth suspending all powers of disbelief to watch such great competition, isn’t it?

    Pay up, play the game!

MSM on full back-track mode re Barton.

Remember this guy was a great signing. Best player in the English Championship. A star name. A guy who would put bums on seats. Put Scottish football back on the map. Get people all over the world talking about it again.

Now all of a sudden he’s a bad signing, not cutting it, a bad vibe in the dressing room, not cutting it on the pitch…….

How much money is he on again…..?

Talking of transubstantiation , as you know I am trying to morph into a svelte 45 year old of less than 16 stone. Prayers are the only way I think, however I keep them for real concerns.

just have to stick to a 20 minute circuit followed by a 20 minute run this morning.need to stay clear of the booze today as I start a new job tomorrow and head over to Sweden at 6am from Edinburgh tomorrow.

Sorry JNP, but I think you may have misread my meaning in the post about King being a ” fit and proper person” etc.

I was being rather truthful and/or sarcastic depending on how you may view King, as I was meaning that he was the right man for two reasons,

He ” fits” the bill as a glib and shameless liar.

A Glasgow football team attempted to transubstantiate from RFC via Sevco 5008 and Sevco Scotland to TRFC.

They failed miserably though as the media and football authorities all insist that they are still RFC.

This transubstantiation is clearly not as easy as it sounds!

  17. fergusslayedtheblues on

I think the penny is finally dropping for the sevconions that they were sold a pup by their level 5 media lackies

told how great they were and how all the players they had signed were GOOD PLAYERS (bfdj)

King needed STs sold and the MSM needed the blue £.

Hence the sevconion fanbase were duped into believing the hype .

Now that the ST money is in and the real reality of where they are on the pitch begins to sink in ,they are not best pleased .

They were winning the 55 (stop laughing at the back ) then it was 2nd is not too bad now i see they are holding banners up at ibrokes saying 3rd is not acceptable but it is essential .

After being given arguably the easiest start from a random computer (i will not tell you at the back again) they now find themselves in 4th place and approaching the harder end of their fixtures .

Some ask why are we obsessed with them ,I am not obsessed ,I am more vigilant .

You see I supported my team as did thousands of other SPL teams supporters by simply going and watching what I thought was a fair (MIB aside ) competition .It has now been proven that it was anything but .

This new entity will have to play by rules (right that’s it you at the back leave the room) that the now dead club never did ,so when it becomes apparent that on a level playing field they will become less “we are the peepil” and more “same as the rest ” then who here thinks that will be acceptable to the WATP hordes .

No my friends they will need an edge ,something ,anything that gains them an advantage over everyone else ,because reality is not a pill the addicts brought up in the Murray era want to swallow ,swallow .

That is why I am not obsessed ,that is why I am bloody vigilant .

Hail hail to the bhoys today let’s get back down the road with the 3 pts

Kennedy and or Ashley backing them will see them gain a NOMAD and consequently listing on a stock market. The next and most difficult stage is a share issue. How would they attract seed funding or Angel funding assuming they are a start up company, after liquidation. £10M of repairs to Ibrox, players on very high wages can TUPE over, so running costs are actually increased. If they were liquidated which I assume, would fans invest again? Would fans buy ST knowing that over the next few seasons CFC could access £30M pa and have sponsorship deals north of £12M, plus ST sales around 55,0000 etc etc. CFC strengthening every season. Which VC would buy into this? Would the fans now accept MA even if BK were on board? Would Parks etc actually back away? How would the soft loans of £18M be repaid? Would VC or Angel investors invest to see something north of £40M disappear before then end of the first financial year? Would the Klan accept a 5 year plan to try, even try to catch CFC with the hope that there is persistent failure by CFC to reach CLGS? If the CL develops the way it could and the champions route be reduced, but CFC due to previous seasons strengthening with GS monies a favourite to qualify for GS, TRFC would lose the national coefficient and adopt the minimum allocated to a new club, which might well be zero, consequently access to CLGS funds is a forlorn hope, if not impossibility. Many, many barriers to cross. Parks personal worth is around £60M, Kennedy around £250M, but with very limited liquidity, relative to requirements, although some, but nowhere near enough. Genuine Angel investment would be seriously limited and extremely high risk. VC investment in a new company is similar, in that as with the CG IPO immediate returns on fees and high percentage equity returns, not dividends, which are too risky, all suggest a business enterprise crippled before it even starts. The big unpredictable(some of us could even predict it) is would fans buy into all of this annually if playing a distant second fiddle to Celtic? The real problem is the same and cannot change…….the Supremicist culture of We Are The People. This is a different financial climate from the Fergus McCann buy out of 94. The barriers in all areas of progress are almost insurmountable.

I suspect the rest of Scottish football may have to adjust to a monopoly of Celtic and battle for second place in all or most tournaments or even a Rangers free football world.

Celtics ST sales declined by 3,500 over the Rangers free period and much of that was down to a protest over the lack of progress in Europe and the type of football being played.

Survival as the current club/company is equally precarious and costly, perhaps even more difficult as start up corporate benefits no longer apply, so discouraging non emotional investment.

A couple of questions should be asked about the reality of this…….where was Kennedy and his funding, which according to D&P was insufficient, in 2012, and why could he not realise the funding them when Start up Entreprise tax benefits were available?

I could be wrong and perhaps BK etc have ways of overcoming these barriers, but one could compromise the existence of the Old Lady of Edmonston Drive, as this is the only way I can see a practical and realistic way forward, and sufficiently beneficial in the long run to attract the investment necessary. Is a new Highbury Project the only way to release investment from investors pockets??

  19. It’s funny watching their demise and decomposition.
