Confederated league gathers pace as Belarus bids to join

905

The momentum for a confederated regional league in Eastern Europe continues to gather pace with clubs from Belarus keen to join.  With a population of around 10m, Belarus is sandwiched between Russia, Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states, but their league has been rendered uncompetitive by the domination of Bate Borisov, who are on their way to eight-in-a-row titles.

Bate, who are now Champions League regulars, have no opportunity to progress while the rest of the league do not have the resources to compete with them.  A regional league would solve all their problems.

Russian and Ukrainian clubs are aiming to have a confederated league in place by the start of 2014, with sponsors thought to be keen to step forward and underwrite whatever is necessary to smooth the way, but the Ukrainian FA suggest 2016 is a more viable date.

Scottish football stands to gain more from regionalisation than anywhere else on the planet. We need to have this debate before blindly stumbling into another Management of Decline while legislators in Minsk leave us behind!

Today is the last guaranteed posting date for CQN Annuals before Christmas, so if you haven’t ordered yet, this is your chance.

Many thanks for the tremendous support of the Annual in recent weeks.  We have shipped lots to Australia, Canada and USA, across various European and Asian countries, and to hundreds of towns and cities across Scotland, England and Ireland.  Even Ayrshire!

Last guaranteed date before Christmas. You can order the CQN Annual here!

After hearing many reports on the blog regarding SSB ,I just decided to have a listen for myself . I lasted a whole four minutes before the buffoonery forced me to switch off. 3 cretins in a studio making excuses for the pathetic hun share issue -too near xmas ,put big money in when buying season tickets etc – they were joined by some character on the phone comparing sevco with brands of motor cars which have changed hands over the years ,eh? Until tonight I haven’t tuned into this radio station since the days of Park and Sanderson ,I can safely say I wont be doing so again.

I had the same problem as you with PayPal. You can go to Amazon.co.uk and add the non-US shipping address there. I’ve done it twice while ordering the annual for friends, the first time I got a call from my bank to report a suspicious transaction!

anyone going to phone Dawell and ask him if Davie Provan outing him as a cream bun was his highlight on SSB?

How do we force the SFA and FA to merge?

Given that the SFA wouldn’t let their players compete in the GB Olympic team – supposedly for fear of losing the national team – I reckon this seems highly unlikely. Too much self-interest, empires, cushy expenses-paid trips all over the world, etc etc…..

  9. I reckon the initial cost of mounting the bid to purchase the assets off the Liquidator would have been well in excess of 5.5 million plus they did have some football debts to pay. A spokesman for the cabal said as much when they were pouring scorn on the Walter led last minute bid to gazump them. I reckon they had to come up with at least a 10 million pot to get them started. Its my guess that most if not all of initial equity would have taken the form of Loans. These new Institutional Investors could well be the initial cabal who are simply gettting their Loans repaid by converting them into shares. wait&seecsc

  10. could not give a toss about sevco share issues

a regionalised euro league combining smaller leauge such as, scotland, denmark, holland etc… is usefless without relegation and promotion to and from the league structure, so it would have to consist of 2 divisions, i would think entry from domestic leagues to lower euro league would also be needed to ensure the door is open to clubs or we’d just end up with a very poor, but elite top flight

p.s the fact there is no steering groups etc… would suggest it aint gonna happen anytime soon, but i do think uafa should remember if the super clubs (bullshite) leave to form a super league then it will be them coming out with the beggining bowl, not us

  12. Rubbish, I don’t know what paul’s talking about, we need a parochial league run by the few for the few with scant regard paid to self regulation , think about the lofty heights we can reach

  13. Samaras becomes a double-century Bhoy

By: Laura Brannan on 18 Dec, 2012 17:17

STANDING inside the tunnel, Georgios Samaras points down towards the Lisbon Lions stand. “They took me through the back door over there so the media didn’t see me,” he recalled. “I had a meeting with Gordon Strachan and Peter Lawwell, and then came through the stadium and down the tunnel. That was the first time I´d seen the park and I was speechless.”

The Greek striker was looking back to January 2008, his first day at Celtic, because having just come off the pitch against St Mirren on Saturday, he learnt that he had reached another milestone in his career.

He already has many achievements to boast about – he´s competed in the UEFA Champions League twice, and twice he has qualified for the last 16. He is also the only Celt to have ever scored in five consecutive away European matches, which he’s done this season.

But at the weekend, in the 2-0 win against St Mirren, Samaras added another achievement to his golden CV, having played his 200th match for the club.

The total moves him into 100th place in terms of appearances made by past and present Celtic players, and out of the current squad, he is second to just Scott Brown who is 18 games ahead of him.

When congratulated on his success after the match, Samaras was unaware he had been on the verge of another momentous milestone, but he couldn’t hide his joy at the news.

With a smile on his face he shared his immediate reaction with the Celtic View, and said: “I didn’t have a clue. I´m not really good with stats, but now that I know, my first thoughts are that I am really proud.

“I’m proud that I’m part of this football club and I want to say a big thank-you to Gordon Strachan for bringing me here and a big thank-you to Neil Lennon for keeping me here.

“I am a little bit romantic, if you know what I mean. I want to stay in one team and try to spend most of my time at the same club if I can. I was in Holland for five years and I had a great time there – I had a good bond with the team. I like to serve a club for many years and hopefully I can do that for Celtic.”

Ironically, for a player who likes to stay as faithful to one club as possible, Samaras began his Celtic career as a loan Bhoy. He joined the Hoops from Manchester City, almost five years to the day, and he still remembers it clearly.

“The stadium was empty but you still feel something when there’s no-one in it,” he said. “I knew Celtic were a big club and I knew all about the history but being a part of that is something special.

“Nothing has really changed since. Things have been good and bad but in the end what stays is the love for the club.

“Every football player has good and bad moments, the road is not straight, but that´s normal, that´s life. What stays in the end, though, is your love for football and your love for Celtic.”

Read the full and exclusive interview with Georgios Samaras in this week´s bumper 96-page Christmas special of the Celtic View. Out this Wednesday, December 19.

  14. Shares issue – the proof of value will be when they start trading .v. off-loading – almost certain they will hit a dip!

Can just picture the scene in ‘hill billy land’ when a few joint statements start popping through the post in the next 10-14 days.

She: you’ve done @@@@@@ whit? Get them sold now or it’s bread and water for the Sunday dinner.

He: but a wullny get back the full £500!

She: tough – that’s your drink and bookies money up the Swannee for the next month.

Of course there’s likely to be a lot more; swearing, fisty-cuffs, a few BotPs, rage and threat thrown into the mix!

You seem to be a wizard with the oul stocks and shares. However, on a slightly different matter. You mention in an earlier post that like myself you used to enjoy Celtic TV when broadcast by Setanta GB before it went bust. We now have Setanta Ireland 1 and 2 which is a pay channell. Setanta One is part of the UPC cable package including ESPN, which is good value. Celtic TV is now broadcast on Setanta Ireland 2 at an extra charge.

  16. I feel like I have to justify myself. I listen to ssb via an app where I listen to radio stations from all over the world.

I live where I live, a long way from Glasgow, and it’s amazing to hear this daily hun-fest paraded over the airwaves and to realise that this is lapped up in Glasgow. I also find it hilarious : it’s like watching full-dress clowns turning nasty in a bar. Pathetically sinister and laughable all in a oner……much like infantilising adult dress with a ‘onesie’.

Hunnies in jim-jams huddled around their desperate radios waiting on pronouncements from Lord Haw-Haw a.k.a. Uncle Buck a.k.a. his worshiplful lordship, Chunkles of IPox.

Just watching Reporting Scotland there and some guff about heart surgery and seen my own quack doubles as the SFA medical officer. Seemed a bit Doc Morrisey when he told me it was all just because I’m getting old.

    I’m doomed.
