‘CONFIDENT – BUT NOT COMPLACENT,’ CALMAC

CALLUM McGREGOR reckons Celtic won’t falter in Trondheim this evening as they protect their 3-1 first leg advantage over Rosenborg.

The Hoops midfielder is convinced Brendan Rodgers’ men are heading for a third round tussle with Greek title-winners AEK Athens as they bid to get a place in the money-spinning Champions League group stages for the third successive season.

McGregor said: “We had a good game last week so we’re comfortable coming here. We had a good result last year, as well, and that breeds confidence in the players to know that we can come and get the job done.

“You go a goal down early doors at home, so the pressure is on as you have to try and win your home game and win them well, especially in this process.

“And we take good confidence that we can come back from conceding a goal early or later on in games – we have the spirit to come back.

“We’re getting more and more confident with each game. We’ve been through this process for a couple of years now, so we can draw on that experience.

“When the ties are difficult, we can dig in and get a result, so that experience is massive for us.

“Everything is familiar. We’ve been here before – same hotel, same stadium – so we know what we need to do here to come and get a result.”

I’LL DINK TO THAT…Odsonne Edouard scores the crucial third goal against Rosenborg.

McGregor, however, is well aware the Norwegians are a formidable force and that nothing can be taken for granted.

The Scotland international added: “We know how good they are, with the goal they scored from a counter-attack. They have two quick wingers and good strikers and that’s something we’ll need to protect against.

“We need to come here and see the job out, but in these ties you can never rule out an early goal which can change the game.

“So, we’ll come here and be professional. We’ve prepared well and we just have to try and draw on that experience from last year and try to get a positive result.

“Another goal would have made it more comfortable for us, but we know we can come here and get a good result. We know exactly what threat they pose and we’ve been preparing for it all week, so we are ready.”
