Contagion from omnishambles, welcome Brendan

664

Let’s be clear about this, there are Celtic fans who believe we need a club called Rangers to survive in the manner which we’ve all become accustomed to over the last couple of decades. That without them, we will wither on the vine.

Some of this is correct. In the years following the liquidation of Rangers we lost TV, commercial, mechanise and season ticket income. We play in a league with significantly less competition, which blunts players’ edge and makes Celtic Park a less attractive place to play or be a spectator.

The important question for Celtic fans is what do they actually want from their club? I’ll cope when we were only a few points ahead of Aberdeen, or getting knocked out of the League Cup by Ross County, while being eliminated from Europe by increasingly obscure teams. I’ll still be there supporting my team.

I accept that not everyone will, some of us want the edge of your seat tension – and that’s all right. But I’d ask anyone who pines for the old days to consider the omnishambles of a football team we glimpsed over the weekend. There was no wonder era in the past when we benefited from a great rivalry without destructive contagion.

They were never good for us. Whatever about Celtic is dependent on them is not worth having.

This afternoon we welcome our new manager, Brendan Rodgers, to Celtic Park for the first time. This morning I recalled Ricky Fulton’s words in the video clip below, “It only remains for me to welcome you to the club, Brendan.” A different club, of course, but there’s a morality tale within.

Talking of SPFL fixtures I will make the following predictions

Sevco’s initial home fixtures will be against teams in the top 6.

Their initial away games will be at teams in the bottom six.

Their first game against us will be at the asbestos Dome.

This will ensure they have two home gates against us.

Barton’s remit will be to wind opponents up. Decent player and not a bad coup for a four-year -old club targeting 55 points in their first season in the top league.

Just Giving page set up by the Vanguard Bears

A GROUP of Rangers fans are attempting to raise cash for thugs who invaded Hampden at the weekend.

Rangers “ultras” group, the Vanguard Bears, launched a Just Giving page which they say is to help any ‘Rangers fan with legal fees or fines following arrest at Hampden Park on Saturday 21st May.’

By this afternoon over half of the target of £1,690 – a reference to the 1690 Battle of the Boyne, a key part of Orange Order folklore in which some Rangers fans revel – had been met.

Later in the day, the target was increased to £1,872 – the year the Ibrox club was formed (1872).

The page on the crowd funding website said: “We fully believe every Rangers fan who defended their Club’s players and supporters from attack by screaming, hate-filled hordes at Hampden Park on Saturday, deserve our backing and full support.

“No football club or support wishes to see fans fighting on the field of play or terraces, but on this occasion, we feel the Rangers support had no choice but to stand up and be counted.”

It also features a photo of what appears to be a Rangers fan on the ground being booted by Hibs supporters.

The nation was left stunned following Hibs Scottish Cup final victory, which saw thousands of their supporters invade the pitch following the Championship side’s injury time winner.

Horrific scenes unfolded which saw fans battles each other, as stewards and mounted police on horseback struggled to regain control of the situation.

Although the Hibs fans were the first on the pitch, they were joined by a number of Rangers supporters who saw their idols being swamped by a sea of green and white.

We reported earlier how claims that every single member of the Rangers team had been either assaulted or spat upon during the fracas.

The Vanguard Bears added: “Let’s be very clear here, the Rangers supporters who defended their players and fellow fans did the job of the police and stewards who stood idly by and watched our players being attacked, and our support taunted and subjected to attacks in person and by missiles.”

I have mentioned a few times on CQN Regan mentioning social unrest. I had a hunch that was a more a political statement than an SFA one.

It did not make sense in a sport that should essentially be apolitical

Said joey was head and shoulders the best player on the park.

Think I read he won their player of the year award this season, he might not be good enough for premiership and maybe he knows it himself so doesn’t fancy chasing shadows for a full season.

But I do think he will be a very good signing for them , not his biggest fan but he’s a better footballer than Scott brown sadly.

Also they should pass freely between nations.

  27. Seeing as the Sevconians are so forthright in their statement that those ‘few’ stout souls ran onto the park purely to protect their loyal blue players, I am sure they have personally identified and contacted each and every one of them to confirm that this was in fact their only motivation.

And of course, being such guardians of all that is right, they will have forwarded on to the police the name and address of each and every one of these brave protectors.

I’m sure that the video evidence will also clearly show how these brave souls formed a protective chain around the players to protect them from the onslaught raining down on them.

    No?

    No evidence at all?

    Zero?

    I am shocked.

Surely, having taken the time to carefully craft that official statement, there must be at least a little evidence to back it up.

Time the other clubs in Scotland stood up and told these lunatics that their bully-boy tactics should have been buried with their old club and will no longer be tolerated.

A great coup for the Celtic PR, Celtic media teams.

I hope our new found boldness extends to future press conferences with a sceptical media. Nae combatative.

  31. Brendan formerly 'GG on

In Braveheart the Scots facing the English raised their kilts and displayed their bare, unshaven rear ends to the enemy.

The French used to chop the first two fingers off English archers, which of course has led to the V sign as the archers raised two fingers to their enemies.

So showing contempt and derision for your enemy is an ancient practice and taking pleasure in their demise is to be encouraged.

I renewed as planned today. Lady indicated that it had been very quiet but had picked up a lot since Friday. Let’s hope that she is kept busy from here on.

Brendan likes a small squad with backup from the youths. Music to my ears.

    ________________________________________________________________________________

Brendan was brought in because the season tickets wurny selling.

The mad rush will cover Brendan’s £2 million a year salary.

Where will he get the money for players ?

No CL-money pot to come in ?

No EL-money pot to come in ?

Brendan dizny like big squads ie: Brendan will have to sell before he can buy, just like MO’N had to v’s a £100 million Rangers squad – backed by ebt’s.

Having said that, Jim McLean won the league in 1983 with a squad of 13 players so, might be a guid wee sign there ? Hopefully.

Brendan would become an instant Legend if he won Domestically with the same players, probably getting rid of some along the way.

Brendan will be facing a huns klub that looks like it is ready to fall over the cliff so, no need to spend £millions.

A huns klub that could find itself facing relegation unless, the kowtowing Celtic hierarchy have already made sure that, relegation won’t happen ? Hmmmmm…..check Neil McCann in the Sly sports studio after the SCF on Saturday where he said that Hibs will have a goal of trying to get back to the SPFL, either by promotion or, by league reconstruction – Big Eck and, WGS looked at him in a way that suggested McCann had already said too much ? WGS – “Reconstruct the leagues so that R*ngers are in the same league as Celtic.”….5 way agreement ? Did Celtic / PL sign up to this ? I canny do link things but check it yerselve’s and ye’ll see what I mean.

Having been told that PL was not involved in the selection process of Brendan, why then did Brendan ‘gush’ about PL’s persuasiveness ?

When I seen PL and snake-eyes Bankier flanking Brendan today I thought – is this more smoke n mirrors to try to suggest that the entire club is on the same page ?

Does Brendan really know how sleekit-deceitful-devious-traitors that the Celtic-PLC-Hierarchy really are ?

Are the hierarchy hoping that he’ll be a ‘trusting’ sort like, Tommy Burns ?

Why has Lawwell not been sacked yet ? At least £60 million CL-money blown under his watch and he still troosers a £1 million + bonuses for each year of failure ?

Hopefully, Brendan is streetwise-savvy enough not to be duped by these chancers.

DD shouldny be getting any praise at all for the arrival of Brendan – it’s you who are buying the season tickets who are paying for it all – only ‘you’ will put any money into Celtic.

Not being a killjoy but, the 12,000 who were there last night were probably the same ones who were doing the huddle inside Celtic Park as, the huns paraded they’re 3rd title in a row round Rugby Park back in the day.

Brendan keeps flagging up Tommy Burns, hopefully Brendan means Tommy the person and, not Tommy the manager.

And, bear in mind ‘every’ Celtic manager has been cheated, not just Tommy Burns.

Voices at the back of my nut still saying that Brendan will be easily mugged.

Oh and, Brendan get Big McGhee in as your assistant, he’ll show ye how to play Jungle-pleasing fitba, without getting easily mugged, when he’s got the players under his watch for ye.

Please, silence those cranium voices Brendan – just please.

    …….oot…….
