Creative options

Since July I’ve written about the over-dependence we have on Kris Commons as a creative player.  He’s pretty much our only option, and if he’s not fancied, injured, suspended or just off-form, we look like a team full of energy but without a key to open the door.

It may be that Ronny doesn’t figure on having a classic No. 10 in his team, and it’s more than possible that we won’t play one against European heavyweights, but against packed SPFL defences, we need someone who can create space in dangerous areas.

As we mentioned last month, some years ago Celtic reportedly looked at Bosnian international, Semir Stilic, while he was at Lech Poznan.  His star faded before a journey through Ukrainian and Turkish football before he returned to Poland with Wisla Krakow 12 months ago on an 18 month contract.  Since then he’s been a sensation and has kept Wisla in touch with the top of the table.

He’s refused a new contract offer from Wisla and is subject to a bid from Dinamo Zagreb, thought to be in the region of €250k.  He’s likely to be on circa €2k per week.  We’ve scouted the player, he’s soon out of contract, going cheap, on low wages, on form and we’re short of what he can give.

This is the kind of player Dinamo Zagreb pick up for buttons and enables them to compete as effectively as they did against Celtic with a fraction of our budget.  He has the making of an effective January signing.

Well, we have a great couple of months of games coming up, what with a sustained challenge in the league from the sheep, Inter, the cups. All starting tonight. Come on Ronny, show us what you can do.

I googled those books you mentioned. No reviews on either,on any sales site. Though of course your recommendation is enough for me,sook sook!

Have you seen the bloody price of them?! Never mind copperplate writing, these must be in gold-plate!!

    Order placed at library,methinks…

  3. Happy New Year fellow Tims.

Not read back and had a long break from CQN.

I had said before the festive break that Celtic should be bringing in GMS. He is a winger and we badly need one and he has started hitting the net. He is out of contract in the summer. I would be getting him in tomorrow. Forrest is injured. Stokes is not a winger and Ronny wants to play with wingers and currently we have none who can play. They are either injured or not up to it. It’s a no brainer in my eyes.

I also flagged up the boy Allen as one to watch and he has staretd hitting very good form. Maybe too early to bring him in now but get a deal done and get the boy in the summer. Use McGeouch and Griffiths as part of the deal if need be. Griffiths is a player I like. He scores goals from everywhere but alas not from the stand or the bench. Get rid and bring the lad in for the midfield. He plays a great killer pass and Armstrong is probably now out of our price range for value for money in the league.

As for other players in Scotland I have not se enough of Hayes but I have heard people say a lot of good things about him. Another winger with pace and the added power GMS doesn;t have. £1m tops. I would get him in too.

I have long said that I don;t believe Matthews is the answer at Right Back. It’s debateable. The boy is a very good player but I think he needs a move. His form is patchy and he is injured a lot. He will be on a decent wedge and we can;t afford to have two well paid full backs in the stand most of the season. Patterson at Hearts would do me and he can play a number of positions. Just my thoughts.

As for the defence get a seasoned Centre back in with experience. Doesn;t have to be the best player in the world but a leader at the back and also a player who strikes some fear into oppponents.

If we can also get Guidetti secured and get rid of the dross that is clogging up our squad then we may be able to pick up a left back for cover.

This is a huge window for Celtic and Ronny. We need to show some intent and get the right players in. It is crucial we get a good run going in January and February. If Ronny doesn;t get the team motoring he won;t see St Patrick’s Day.

Huge match tonight. We will see a proper number 10 in action. Eremenko will give us problems. he has found some form and we will need to be up for it this evening. It’s a plastic pitch and Killie have the advantage as they know it well and should use it to give themselves every chance of causing an upset. They will play for a draw and hit us on the break. I keep expecting us to steam roller a team but it is not happening. Ronny will get 2 more chances before the majority of the fans turn on him. Must win tonight and must win the next match. If he fails to win either his days will be numbered. The board can back him all they like but when the fans lose faith it’s virtually game over. If the board do not back him in this window then I fear they are unsure and we will stumble on until he falls on his sword. Get the transfer work done early. No point going for a break without having your new squad to bed in. If we head to Gran Canaria withe same squad that we had this morning I don;t see the sense in any break at all.

Interesting times ahead. Will we be sleeping or spring into the new year? First test tonight then it is over to the board to either back their man or get rid of him and back someone else. Pivotal point of this season!

Agreed I think Mackay-Steven would thrive at CP and offer something a little different.

Good stuff as usual, mate. I really want RD to succeed. I do. But his gameplan has been undermined by his own tactical failures and by lack of the quality to match it in the first place.

As for new faces,I’d rather we got serious about losing some old,but strangely unfamiliar, ones first.

If ever a squad needed a clear-out,it’s this one. Then we can figure out who to bring in.

I don’t think its an exaggeration to say that about TWENTY of our squad are not up to challenging for the first team.

But Griffiths is. If RD is to be a success in the job,he may have to play the cards he has, hold his nose, play a guy who clearly doesn’t fit his fitness regime.

Other managers have done that for years. Pragmatism might be RD’s best hope.

I have backed Ronny from day 1 but the board have not. They may say things different behind closed doors but the proof is on the pitch. The squad is weak and not up for the fight. The players don;t look comfortable or happy. Fans lose faith it is game over that time is coming.

The proof will be in who is on the plane for Gran Canaria. If there is no new additions it is pointless.

    Rule e20.2 of the SPFL.

Given the amount due is circa 500k I would think this constitutes more than one months tax due to HMRC and therefore the overdue amount is more than 28 days past due.

Also fact they were given 7 days to pay means it’s past due.

Have they informed SPFL within the 2 days required?

Certainly looks like TRIFCO are pushing the boundaries on what is acceptable under SFA/SPFL regulations.

With precedents to back that up.

However,Scots Law is not based historically on precedent,as it is in England. It relates more to custom-though changes have taken place recently due to the EU and ECHR.

And custom dictates that the huns get away with it.

(Willing to be corrected here,of course. Quite a few lawyers on the site!)

Absent new signings, I just cannot see the benefit of the Gran Canaria trip. Doesn’t appear to have any significant financial impact on the club. To be frank, I don’t think the squad deserve a holiday given this season’s efforts to date.
