Creative options

Since July I’ve written about the over-dependence we have on Kris Commons as a creative player.  He’s pretty much our only option, and if he’s not fancied, injured, suspended or just off-form, we look like a team full of energy but without a key to open the door.

It may be that Ronny doesn’t figure on having a classic No. 10 in his team, and it’s more than possible that we won’t play one against European heavyweights, but against packed SPFL defences, we need someone who can create space in dangerous areas.

As we mentioned last month, some years ago Celtic reportedly looked at Bosnian international, Semir Stilic, while he was at Lech Poznan.  His star faded before a journey through Ukrainian and Turkish football before he returned to Poland with Wisla Krakow 12 months ago on an 18 month contract.  Since then he’s been a sensation and has kept Wisla in touch with the top of the table.

He’s refused a new contract offer from Wisla and is subject to a bid from Dinamo Zagreb, thought to be in the region of €250k.  He’s likely to be on circa €2k per week.  We’ve scouted the player, he’s soon out of contract, going cheap, on low wages, on form and we’re short of what he can give.

This is the kind of player Dinamo Zagreb pick up for buttons and enables them to compete as effectively as they did against Celtic with a fraction of our budget.  He has the making of an effective January signing.

  1. I see Willie McStay is returning to Celtic – which I think is positive.

    Two Qs

    1) Who appointed him?

    2) Who does he report to ?

  2. I name names when I go mental, others just let others worry.

This Blog is more powerful than anyone has any idea.

  7. PhilMc vouched for FLEMING.

I’m worried more about a John Kennedy’s happening again more than anything.

    carte blanche?

It makes no sense now that FLEMING is running the referee game.

    ………………………………………………………………………………………

How could Phil vouch for Fleming when he nailed the Huns so efficiently?

  8. Dexter says PAY THE LIVING WAGE CELTIC PLC on

    Darts was epic drama.

Canny believe some on here are saying whether Anderson is a hun or a hibee or whatever. FFS there’s more to life than Celtic or Rangers or Hun or Hibee. Jaysus!

  9. The appointment of Willie McStay is an interesting one, as I suspect that Celtic were looking to develop him as a future manager when they helped him get a role in Hungary.

The wheels seemed to come off the plan when Mowbray turned out to be a dud ( or rather Celtic found out that the WBA fiasco wasn’t a one off) and we found ourselves looking for a manager 7 months later.

From memory Willie came back to Celtic for a short time, but was then offski when NL was appointed manager

At the AGM PL voiced his disappointment at the success rate of youths coming out the academy.

Maybe this is all linked ?

    HAMPDEN IN THE SUN

Oh Hampden in the sun, Celtic 7 Rangers 1,

That was the score when it came time up,

The Timalloys had won the cup.

I see Tully running down the line,

He slips the ball past Valentine,

It’s nodded down by ‘Teazy Weazy’,

And Sammy Wilson makes it look so easy.

    I see Mochan beating Shearer,

The League Cup is coming nearer,

He slams in an impossible shot,

The Rangers team has had their lot.

Over comes a very high ball,

Up goes McPhail above them all,

The ball and Billy’s head have met,

A lovely sight the ball is in the net.

Young Sam Wilson has them rocked,

But unluckily his shot was blocked,

Then big Bill with a lovely lob,

Makes it look such an easy job.

Now here is Mochan on the ball,

He runs around poor Ian McColl

Wee George Niven takes a daring dive,

But Smiler Mochan makes it number five.

Down the middle runs Billy McPhail,

With John Valentine on his tail,

With a shot along the ground,

The cup’s at Parkhead safe and sound.

Here comes Fernie, cool and slick,

He ambles up to take the kick,

He hits it hard and low past Niven,

The Tims are in their Seventh Heaven.

Defending is a Brilliant part of Football.

Neil’s Celtic helped end the Domination of the Sexiest fitba the World has ever seen.

Celtic attacked Barca when they could, and attacked very well.

That British style of fitba hit the ceiling that night, IMO.

Can Ronny do miracles in 1 season?

….not sure, his rhetoric initially, IMO was one of a person that knows he is going to WIN everywhere, there is no doubt he has compromised things now.

  15. Looks like they were due to receive £425k up front from Brentford for the sale of the boy wonder but the SFA have withheld the £250k fine imposed by LNS -oh the irony!

Who was the last billionaire to surface in similar circumstances hat didn’t want any publicity? Some uber rich bloke who the denied it. Don’t recall his name.

If folks are buying lots of shares while a bid is on the table I am sure there are no rules that should be followed? An Agm was held during the same period and shareholders voted on resolutions not having this info disclosed?

Could be done that way due to their “past” or it could be an arrestment of the funds.

They are moaning that LNS said the old company should pay not the new company. Someone stated that they got to keep their history and titles after admin and liquidation as it was HMRC involved but after a Admin 2 they’d loose these.

  26. Willie Macstay back that is God news. He got the managers gig at Ross County but it only lasted a few weeks if I remember rightly. Never heard why though the County support we’re delighted with his appointment at the time, though it all went pear shaped pretty quickly.

The scouting system as mentioned previously cannot be allowed to continue without a rethink. Some of the crap like the Dutch sick boy and Mo Mo super Mo. Why would anyone sign a player he is always injured. He did look ok the last time I saw him against St J thought at the time there might be a footballer trying to get out in there. He does have pace. I give him that, though not much use on the treatment table.
