Creative options

968

Since July I’ve written about the over-dependence we have on Kris Commons as a creative player.  He’s pretty much our only option, and if he’s not fancied, injured, suspended or just off-form, we look like a team full of energy but without a key to open the door.

It may be that Ronny doesn’t figure on having a classic No. 10 in his team, and it’s more than possible that we won’t play one against European heavyweights, but against packed SPFL defences, we need someone who can create space in dangerous areas.

As we mentioned last month, some years ago Celtic reportedly looked at Bosnian international, Semir Stilic, while he was at Lech Poznan.  His star faded before a journey through Ukrainian and Turkish football before he returned to Poland with Wisla Krakow 12 months ago on an 18 month contract.  Since then he’s been a sensation and has kept Wisla in touch with the top of the table.

He’s refused a new contract offer from Wisla and is subject to a bid from Dinamo Zagreb, thought to be in the region of €250k.  He’s likely to be on circa €2k per week.  We’ve scouted the player, he’s soon out of contract, going cheap, on low wages, on form and we’re short of what he can give.

This is the kind of player Dinamo Zagreb pick up for buttons and enables them to compete as effectively as they did against Celtic with a fraction of our budget.  He has the making of an effective January signing.

    Good evening, gents and ghirls.

I’ve not been keeping up with events here for a while. Can anyone update me on what is happening, or has happened regarding the full page advert/statement that many of us funded a few weeks ago. Have I missed it or has there been a change of plan? Anyone?

You are correct about the boycott.

I think Rugby Park is the only venue where association allow you not to take up your full allocation for your bus without being penalised. It must have cost Killie a fortune.

Davie is a very good Manager. Their display against Barca has been good. Some of the Barca fitba is outrageously good though.

I worry like yourself! I hope the gamble of RD pays off, but I think this is going to be a tight season!

I like RD, but not sure if he is really up to the job at this moment in time. A good no 2, perhaps?

Will we give him time to mature, will depend on luck and good or bad timing?

    Canaries trip could be either!

Loan signings are not helping the situation, IMO.

  13. the glorious balance sheet on

Demand for tickets for Celtic games at Rugby Park has declining for some time now.

I remember us going there on a Sunday night in January 2000 when we were about 15 points behind Rangers. As I remember it, despite our troubles in the league and despite the game being live on Sky TV, Celtic fans filled both stands behind the goals and were dotted throughout the “home” stands too. I`ve just checked what the attendance was that night – 14,126.

When we played Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the corresponding fixture last season (on a Saturday, 12.30pm kick-off) the attendance was 6,149.

It would be interesting to see if attendance at away games at places such as St Mirren Park, Fir Park etc has fallen away to the same extent.

  14. Commentator just said, if Barca lose it will be fourth time in five years, the other game, was a draw.

That’s an incredible stat considering how dominant Barca have been during that period.

I bumped into Tony on Friday at Silverburn. He hasn’t changed a bit in manner and looks.

He has Pollok playing the ball on the deck as much as possible, going by yesterday’s game.

I was going to take my son to his first away game tomorrow but he has now told me he has exams this week and the household boss won’t accept him going to a game because of that.

  25. Barca lose 1-0 to David Moyes’ Sociedad. That’s what you get for leaving Messi and Neymar on the bench 1st half.

As I’ve always said Barca don’t have a Plan B – always try to walk the ball into the net. MInd you I hope our team were watching how Sociedad defended – they were immense at the back.

Virgin provider – BT and Skysports have them on regularly, I don’t watch them, luckily enough I watched the Tony Mowbray team demolish them, Tony is a bigger threat to Sevco than they can possibly imagine.
