Curious Deadline Day

333

Deadline day and Norwich City’s Cork-born striker, Adam Idah, is set to join and reinforce Brendan Rodgers’ striker options.  I also expect a left back, as backup for Greg Taylor, who will retain his place when fit.

At 6’ 3” Idah is 2” taller than Oh and will add heft to the squad, a quantity we discussed was lacking as recently as Monday.  Stephen Kenny gave Adam his first cap for Ireland.  The players biggest moment so far, he scored against the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifier in September.

He is a curious signing for me.  Unlike the recent arrivals of Lagerbielke, Nawrocki, Bernardo, Holm, Palma, Yang, Tilio and Kuhn, Adam was not automatic first choice at his previous club.  None of the others were technically speaking “projects”, they were all being replied upon week-in, week-out, in leagues comparable to or better than Scotland.

Adam has started fewer than half of Norwich City’s league games this season, and has scored six goals from his 12 starts and 16 substitute appearances.  Ross County gave us a lesson in how effective big raw lads can be in Scottish football, and we have also signed a winger who (by all accounts) can cross, so logic dictates we sign a target man.  Let’s hope he arrives and batters a few goals in.

The summer window was one of transition.  Strategy was prepared by a manager who left the building, Brendan chose who he wanted from a short-list already prepared for him (Nat Phillips was an emergency exception).

This window, Brendan has had complete control.  As he made clear at the AGM and on a few occasions since, he signs the players.  He forms strategy and he is responsible for the decisions.  So that’s me reassured.

  1. We are so wedded to the plot of Act 1 where BR and PL were mortal enemies, one fighting to make Celtic better, while the other is fighting to advantage the lot of our Govan rivals, that we have failed to spot the plot twist in Ac t2. The dialogue coming from all sides says they are cooperating in the common interest of the club and they talk and get along with each other.

But we know better. This dialogue is just fake news. A false front and just a change of approach by Brendan in his continuous attempt to oust the Villain from our club. He will soon unmask him and Peter Lawwell will be led away by the polis saying “If it wasn’t for those peky kids, I would have got away with it and condemned Celtic to another 12 years of “just staying ahead of Rangers”

  2. If Dermot IS on the golf course I can categorically tell you he will NOT answer his phone. As all good golfers know…..we turn our phones off until the last putt. How else can we win the monthly medal?

Paul you’re a nice guy mate but you’re a puppet for pistol Pete let’s not beat about the bush.

His days are numbered and so are this boards, they’ve pushed fans far too far now, enough is enough. Pistol Pete is a snake and would do anything to help Sevco FC.

He screwed the Res 12 boys over his own fans who back the club through thick and thin he’s not to be trusted.

Dermot Desmond isn’t above criticism either he brought him back.

RTC said months back they’re haemorrhaging money at some rate so one part of the OF brand needs a helping hand and the Tory’s within our club are there to help

The difficulty will be getting these arses out. The only way is to hit them in their pockets and I cannot see many Celtic fans wanting to boycott games or merchandise…

So we needed a forward as backup to Kyogo and Oh and people complaining that we brought one in on loan who is not an automatic starter at Norwich, rather than spending multi-millions in transfer fee and wages on a striker who starts every week for a Premiership or European side.

    Meanwhile in the real world…

Adam Idah has played in 35 games this season, admittedly mostly as a sub, but a far cry from “not kicking a ball” as claimed by some on CQN.

Let’s give the guy a chance.

  10. Superbru Round 23 Update

Having enjoyed my first entry into the Top 10 overall last week, I came very close to falling into the bottom 3 this week, with the final straw coming when my bold prediction of Ross County winning 1:2 away from home was ruined by a late Livi equaliser.

However this round’s top scorers include a lot of names that have featured in the Top 10 leaderboard over the 2 years we have been running it (and brth as an outlier). Our top scorers were:-

    1= Leggy- 12.5 pts

1= Call me Gerry- 12.5 pts

3= Raplochbus, Bhoy from the Village & brth- 11.5 pts

The pundits who saved me from a slagging for being in the bottom 3 were:-

Joint last- Auldheid, Aipple & fitbabhoy- all on 1 pt. You all managed to score less than Melvin Udall who only predicted 2 of the 8 fixtures this week. That is some achievement, a gift some might say, if they had a wont to be cheeky. As a 2 pointer this week, I’ll just haud ma wheesht.

The overall picture now looks like this:-

    1.- BC Milan- 145 pts

    2.- Leggy- 143 pts

    3.- Billy Bhoy- 136.5 pts

& the Woodentops Race is led by

    1. Friesdorfer- 68 pts

    2. Cosy Corner Bhoy- 75.5 pts

    3. Partizan- 78 pts

Our next deadline is 12.30 pm on the 3rd of February when we have to face a managerless Dons hoping to bounce dead cats but we have bolstered our up front options with Adam “Ooh Ah Up” Idah. Life is interesting, isn’t it!

If the Sevco tortoise is allowed to overtake the sleepy Celtic hare , we’d better dust down those top tier tarpaulins . Something will have to give whether it’s the irresistable fanbase or the immovable board .

We’re not sunk yet , but the concern is palpable on here and on other Celtic blogs . All so avoidable .

  16. Not sure why the manager went cold on his initial targets, who were Pierre’s boy and the left back initially mentioned.

Ah well. He seems to have gone with an agent he trusts for his striker and left back option instead.

I would fancy our recruitment guy won’t hang around after this window given we have reverted to 11th hour spiv trading. He could walk into a bigger job with less public abuse elsewhere in a heartbeat.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the chairman didn’t follow suit. Personally I don’t know many who would be bothered no matter how much feeling I had for the club.

We have a manger who has a desperate track record in transfer windows taking these punts in bizarre fashion. Weird.

Still we have enjoyed a great run this past 20 years. The CEO needs to step up here and take up the leadership role he gets rewarded for doing imo. I am not sure many even know the chaps name.

I absolutely agree, these clowns are not reading the anger of the support properly. If we lose the league this year and give the huns £60m while having all that cash in the bank, bhoys will stop going.

The much fabled waiting will kick in, well it didn’t the last time , we were well short of fans. On a brighter note the huns are truly shite, so these new additions would have to be some players 🤫

    So what does Nicholson do?

Let’s all rally round Brendan and the board and give them our full support for what has been a disaster of a transfer window?

  19. I’m suffering from the usual Seasonal Adjustment Disorder that affects many of us at this time of year. You know: dull weather, lack of sunshine, winter football break and Celtic putting in a bad performance. Oh and our horrible attempts to acquire 4 quality players in line with what the manager feels he requires.

As well as having to cope with all of the above, I come on here and have to read a post indicating that Sevco are likely to win the Treble and another imagining what they are going to do with the £70m spondooliks for qualifying for the CL next season.

I had to rapidly check the League table to confirm my suspicion the we are top of it and leading the Treble Pretenders by two points and then I checked the fixtures that we already have played to confirm the we have played those same Treble Pretenders on two occasions this season and spanked them banking all six points available. We definitely have our problems and are not firing on all cylinders but Sevco are not better than we are. They would give their right arms to be sitting where we are now. Brendan is a great manager and knows how to get the job done. We will win the League. We are worried about Hatate being injured but we’ve more or less had to do without him all season. His form was very poor before his most recent injury prior to today. Sevco have a greater worry. Their BEST player this season Sima is out for months. He has carried them single handedly through many games and is probably responsible for winning them roughly 10 points on his own. He is the guy who does the business against the weaker teams in games against whom the have been hoovering up points but he has failed miserably to perform in the two games against us.

We need to stand united and get behind the team and manager. Don’t let us get divided by getting involved in a divisive squabble regarding the Board. We can’t affect change there DURING the season. They won’t budge. The time to deal with them is when the season ticket renewals come out.

Adam idah. A leaf put of Aberdeeens book. Wtf are we preparing for? Are Celtic about to be kicked out of the division & are preparing accordingly? Caiomhe Kelleher talk was 1 hell of a carrot & nothing but pure guff to help ride out the window. Instead we sign 2 players of Irish league quality. Where is the real story.. something is seriously amiss

  22. Idah has recently returned from a flurry of injury issues, prompting ex-City boss Dean Smith to describe him as a ‘joint compromised athlete’, a label that essentially means he will be battling fitness for the rest of his career.

  23. Tonight is St Brigid’s eve so don’t forget to leave your Celtic scarf outside to be blessed by the Saint as she passes.Itcan then be used to cure headaches and sore throats on tomorrows deadline day 🙏
