Dave Cormack’s empty words

489

“We have been doing local pilots on mental health and wellbeing in Aberdeen which are working.

“The days of booze and betting sponsorships doesn’t really tie in with healthy living and being at the heart of our communities.

“Football can be a magnet for people, healthy living and mental health, so we need to be at the centre of the community.”

The words of Aberdeen chairman, Dave Cormack, spoken less than two weeks ago.  Yesterday, we discovered two of his players tested positive for Covid and a further six have been isolated as all eight attended the pub at the centre of the Aberdeen outbreak.

Mr Cormack, those are empty words.  Today, you are a poster boy for poor governance in healthy living, booze and the caring for the heart of your community.  Your primary task as a director of a football club is to direct the actions of those you control.  What happened?

His interview, in the Daily Record, was full of empty management speech:

“Something I think we have to explore at the centre to drive an agenda.

“What do we want to be? What is our vision? I don’t know what the vision is. We don’t have a branding strategy.

“At the centre, it’s not run like a real company that would have a vision, a branding strategy or goals to drive income.

“The cup is half full, how can we drive things?”

It’s like he had just finished watching a very poor Ted Talk on business growth by an entrepreneur who sold for millions and has no idea how it happened.  Or maybe that’s really him.

Scottish football is the great grounder of egos.  Think your business background gives you better insight and decision making than those in an industry you’ve never worked in?  Buy Hearts or Aberdeen and find out.  Think that your experience as on the Conservative Party – Scottish executive while Tony Blair earned a landslide prepared you for anything?  Maybe you should become chief exec at Partick Thistle?

Football players have been granted ‘sports bubble’ special status, when they abuse that privilege by hitting busy pubs, they have let us all down.

West Ham supporters delighted that Ajeti is leaving they are offering to help him pack and drive him to the airport , enough said .

Maybe the same sort of stuff we were saying about a certain Mr Larsson after his debut for us… give the lad a chance for goodness sake.

Now for reasons only known to my good lady I have to travel across the city to pick her up from a hairdressers, why she could not go to the normal one on Alexandra parade I do not know. Or another more local.

    Mind boggling.

    ……………………..

Maybe the hairdressers in Alexandra Parade arent cutting hair any longer….they are cutting it shorter ….Simples Davie mate !

    LOL.

  3. 9 appearances for West ham – on such things players are rated. 28 goals in 59 games for Basel is a distant memory.

  4. This Aberdeen carry on, just shows how far away we are from punters getting back through the turnstiles.

  5. !!Bada Bing!! on

ABERDEEN’S fixtures against Hamilton and Celtic are ON despite the postponement of tomorrow’s meeting with St Johnstone.

  6. prestonpans bhoys on

Wonder if there’s anything in the SPL rules about point deductions in relation to the sheep🐑🐏 nonsense, doubt it

  7. !!Bada Bing!! on

PB- any games postponed because of stupidity, should result in points forfeited, but the SFA didn’t punish the Zombies for playing a bounce game with no test results, so I’m sure any punishment would be contested.

  8. more defenders – more defenders, were art thou more defenders.

well @ least, one night in Lisbon, well @ least we have taken Ajeti on loan, with the option to buy for 5Mill,

allegedly, however that remains to be seen.

So Bayo is going out on loan, to a French Club for a Season, well that means said player is not in NFL’s

    plans, for the foreseable future.

  9. Prestonpans Bhoys.

I’m sure ther3 is something in the rool book

If a team cannot field a team to fulfill a fixture then they forfeit the match .

The huns should have been sanctioned but wurnae..same old same old.

    Hampden should be emptied.

The Dandy Dons should forfeit 3 points for being irresponsible, arrogant….. thickos……….

They must get it from thur “managers”……….

Where’s the management? Where’s the reality for well-rewarded athletes, operating at a different level and in a different world to most of us fans?

It would seem we’re up against more than just the huns.

  11. yeah Mazzy, I do hope the season ahead doesn’t become fractured and generally disjointed, but I sense a certain inevitability about that.

I know Mazzy, nothing is that straight forward, while following our beloved Club, that is for sure.

I also do hope that Ajeti does not turn out to be like Samaras, remember Sammy Folks.

When Sammy came, he was playing very well during his loan time period.

However, when Sammy signed permanently for us, then we only then seen flashes of what

he can do on the pitch, anyway time will tell on that matter.

  12. Just read a report suggesting that people over 6 feet tall have a higher chance of infection.

    So wee Scots are safer

The new report, conducted by a team of data scientists in the UK, Norway, and the US, posits that the taller the subject the higher their chance of coming into contact with active viral particles.

These findings further distance the potential for indoor gatherings given, aerosols reliably remain stable in poorly ventilated enclosed spaces.

Aberdeen players’ behaviour is unprofessional – end of story. If the SPFL rules allow players to visit pubs during current pandemic, then the club doesn’t deserve any punishment but the SPFL rules must change.

Professional footbal players should not be in pubs during the season.

    Bayo and Griffiths out.

    Ajeti and Fletcher in.

    That’s my take.

Let Griffiths go out on loan, are you kidding.

We have already made one mistake in said window, by letting Johnny Hayes go,

    Lets not make matters worse.

Keep Leigh, & concentrate in getting rid of some of the dead wood, eg. Bolli,

JH etc – etc. our three main strikers @ present are nonchalant Eddy, Leigh, & Kamalla.

The rest of the pack, have to prove themselves worthy, in pulling on the Shirt.

After all, they are now representing a community, as it now states in the Club

    Shop over @ CP

  17. Fletcher would bring something we haven’t had since big Sutty……a cf who roughs up centre halfs

  18. Fletcher isn’t about finesse. A goal of the season for him is launching himself into the box at a corner and the ball smashing off his bugle and into ye olde bawbag. Nuthin wring wi that

  19. 1. Cormack statement on TV was awful.

He was playing the victim card for club and the players.

    McInnes was better.

Club or players need to be seen to be punished.

    2. This part of Neil’s statement is intriguing and discomforting in relation to Covid

“I think the players here have, in the main, been excellent. “

  20. TIM MALONE WILL TELL on 7TH AUGUST 2020 5:03 PM

I am sure that there was a stadium full of Chelsea fans only too willing to drive Chris Sutton to Glasgow rather than stop at the airport.

Certain players suit certain clubs and just don’t suit others – quite hard to judge anybody at West Ham tbh.

Well TimMalone time will tell on that front, if NFL can get the best out of Ajeti, cause its quite obvious

that the West Ham Managers, did not fanncy him as a striker.

  22. Seen that thing going around WhatsApp about Griffiths supposedly being at a house party last week.

Also got told Fletcher was offered a deal but it was taken off the table without explanation. He is alleged to be unhappy and shocked having not been given an explanation.

Yeah, however they were not laughing the following Season (1965/66) when

the Bhoys under Jock Stein, went on to win the League & League Cup in that Season.

  25. Yeah Tontine Tim *as I said a couple of days ago they said the same about the Grim Rieper.

I saw it today. His house and the party was for his partner. How Celtic will view this remains to be seen. Small number of people there, partner’s family? People saying it is a breach of Club’s Covid rules? All will be revealed soon no doubt.

If that is the case, well the Club’s policy on this past restriction, is ridiculous.

Cause that restriction was lifted weeks ago, where ones Family can have up to eight

guest’s, providing they keep social distancing.
