Dave Cormack’s empty words

489

“We have been doing local pilots on mental health and wellbeing in Aberdeen which are working.

“The days of booze and betting sponsorships doesn’t really tie in with healthy living and being at the heart of our communities.

“Football can be a magnet for people, healthy living and mental health, so we need to be at the centre of the community.”

The words of Aberdeen chairman, Dave Cormack, spoken less than two weeks ago.  Yesterday, we discovered two of his players tested positive for Covid and a further six have been isolated as all eight attended the pub at the centre of the Aberdeen outbreak.

Mr Cormack, those are empty words.  Today, you are a poster boy for poor governance in healthy living, booze and the caring for the heart of your community.  Your primary task as a director of a football club is to direct the actions of those you control.  What happened?

His interview, in the Daily Record, was full of empty management speech:

“Something I think we have to explore at the centre to drive an agenda.

“What do we want to be? What is our vision? I don’t know what the vision is. We don’t have a branding strategy.

“At the centre, it’s not run like a real company that would have a vision, a branding strategy or goals to drive income.

“The cup is half full, how can we drive things?”

It’s like he had just finished watching a very poor Ted Talk on business growth by an entrepreneur who sold for millions and has no idea how it happened.  Or maybe that’s really him.

Scottish football is the great grounder of egos.  Think your business background gives you better insight and decision making than those in an industry you’ve never worked in?  Buy Hearts or Aberdeen and find out.  Think that your experience as on the Conservative Party – Scottish executive while Tony Blair earned a landslide prepared you for anything?  Maybe you should become chief exec at Partick Thistle?

Football players have been granted ‘sports bubble’ special status, when they abuse that privilege by hitting busy pubs, they have let us all down.

Aug 5 A goal for Dundee United against Celtic in August 1965. This was one of Jock Stein’s earliest games as manager. Look how young Bobby Murdoch looks

*That was august 14 a LC game which we lost 1-2, huns were laughing that day.

Yeah, however they were not laughing the following Season (1965/66) when the Bhoys under Jock Stein, went on to win the League & League Cup in that Season.

*we were shattered as we had won our 2 friendlies that summer 7-0 and 5-0, however we were missing Joe McGoals injured and the Bear suspended for bookings the season before.

The Arabs played in their new strip, black with white trimming, nae tangerine scheidt as yet, and were one up at the half through former Celtic favourite Bobby Carroll, we equalised through a wee ten thirty diving header where he injured himself and while off getting treatment one minute later Duntocher lhad Denis Gillespie grabbed the winner for them.

We did beat Motherwell midweek through a Johnny Divers goal but 3 days later lost again this time 0-2 at home and were now 3 points behind the Arabs and yet the following Wednesday we went back up tae Tannadice for our opening League game winning 4-0 with Johnny Divers scoring the first goal in our quest for 9, mitb that historical night was Right Hun Davidson, he even gave us a penalty !!!!!!!

We never looked back going on tae win the LC, first time since oh hampden in the sun, and IMHO the catalyst for the Big Cup and NIAR as it showed we could beat that mob in a final when it mattered.

Yeah Tontine Tim, Jock Stein said, after the Scottish Cup Final win over Dunfermline back in 1965,

that particular match & result, the payers crossed over a psychological barrier, in other words the

monkey was off ones backs, & you are right, they never looked back, back then. Jock also said of

just before that particular time, all the players had to show for, was of runners up’s medals.

Well things for their on, truly did change, good.

If that rumour is true, then it certainly does not make sense, in letting Leigh Griffiths go out on

loan, or whatever. The bottom line here, is Leigh Griffiths is a proven goal scorer, end of matter.

His goals tally alone, won us the SPL back in Season 2015/16.

So why would the old Celtic Fanzine called NTV, (Not The View) refer to CP as Castle Grey Skull ?

  6. fairhill bhoy on

TONYROME-hi buddy,I’m playing golf tomorrow with said daddy and his bhoy isn’t in London.😉

I got sent that rumour from someone closer to home😉

    Hope you’re well 🍀

  7. the long wait is over on

I see some references to Griff breaching Covid rules.

Jungle drums saying that as well as breaching the clubs Covid rules he’s been

cheating on the strict diet sheets the club have given him.

Burst flush as far as NL’s concerned. Final straw has come and gone.

  8. Fairhill Bhoy, I got sent that rumour from someone closer to home.

That rumour sounds like the usual pish, coming out of Sly Sevco Sports Media Channel.

  9. Bada

Will be interesting tomorrow – if Pakistan can add another 20 / 30 runs they should be favourite. But just as likely to be bowled out without adding.

  10. Fairhill Bhoy, yeah I will take a nice wee food break @ this juncture & see you all in the

    Flip side fellow Timaloys.

As for Sly Sevco Sports Media Channel, it has now become common knowledge on

here, that said channel has become anti-Celtic like the hun media group here in

Coldland. In other words they do not want us to do well, in other words be

successful, that is a no brainer, not only that, they are now always trying to

sell our best assets/players, along with the occasional negative jibes I rest my

point laters all & COYBIG & Get It In There, Go On The Bhoys. Later’s All.

  11. Fairhill Bhoy. If my memory serves me well Athletico Madrid have recently sold a player

for a big amount of shekels & are being linked with all sorts of players via the huns

media group nah I can not see them making an offer for nonchalant Eddy that my

fellow Timaloy is just a run of the mill what do you expect pish rumour from the

usual suspects no wonder Paul 67 says true storys not lazy ones by we all know

    who.

    Note the difference.

Earlier the BBC wrote Celtic in talks with Ajeti and Fletcher’.

Now it’s ‘Celtic STILL in talks….’

Subtle, but it helps perpetuate a narrative.

We have had that debate on her as long as the ” moon landings ” . Both were deemed acceptable after long , long , long debate.

Fletcher isn’t about finesse. A goal of the season for him is launching himself into the box at a corner and the ball smashing off his bugle and into ye olde bawbag. Nuthin wring wi that

    Good article Paul.

    Budge Mark II.

Another holier than thou type pontificating on the game while failing to run their own club properly.

Feel sorry for the Aberdeen players.

No one said a word when a group of biathletes recently went out boozing and caught Covid-19.

    Or were they triathletes?

    Or professional cyclists?

    Or maybe Olympic swimmers?

Maybe I’m getting confused and the above didn’t happen.

  21. Hearing that all’s well with The Bhoys – great sense of team spirit and camaraderie……

Training going well and healthy competition for places………….all postions, especially strikers and full-backs lovin’ life at Parkhead………..no issues no complaints.

The management team are well settled and busily working on our behalf. The C-suite enclave focused, eerily calm and in control………
