Just watching the two rowers, Gary and Mark Donovon, who won silver. Yesterday, after they qualified from the semi final, when interviewed, they said ” given the year that’s in it, it was great to beat the British”.
When asked by the interviewer today, did they have anything to say to the people of Ireland back home, one of them responded with “tiocfaidh ár lá!”

If anyone can spot and develop the potential for the players mentioned to take on a different role, then Brendan is the man. Johansen – excellent first season but since then has lost something. I suspect (based on nothing whatsoever!) that he may be closely associated with Ronny in the minds of some of the squad. So perhaps he is happy to find another club. Shame, but that’s life…

Watched the second half of the Israeli club game last night. Confused at first, as Hebrew is written from right to left, and I thought that Beer Shava were the away team. They were 2 down at halftime, scored 4 in the 2nd half and missed a penalty. Their opponents, Maccabi Haifa looked very poor. They finished 26 points behind Beer Shava last season. Beer Sheva , P26, points 64. For48, against 17. They looked very fast and sharp in the 2nd half, with a speedy left winger. However, the Hoops were very sharp for 90 minutes on Wednesday, and if we maintain that momentum, as I think we will, then we should see them off. HH

I watched them in the 2nd half last night and wisnae impressed in the slightest. Maccabi were woeful and Hapoel, though better, weren’t that great. I thought they looked laboured at times and I think our pace will kill them. the big boy in midfield is a big unit, but that’s about all he has. I think we will be comfortable enough!
