DEILA PRAISES STRIKE DUO

RONNY DEILA praised Celtic’s new striking double-act of Leigh Griffiths and Carlton Cole after the 3-0 Scottish Cup win at Stranraer.

Griffiths netted twice after making his first start since November 29 when he suffered a calf injury following his goal in the 3-1 win at Inverness.

Cole, who signed an 18-month deal after being released by West Ham in the summer, made his first start and celebrated with his first goal for the Hoops.

Griffiths only returned to action last weekend when he came off the bench aunspecified-2nd netted the stoppage time winner in the Glasgow derby against Partick Thistle.

He hit the net for the 10th time in nine Scottish Cup-ties with his double at Stair Park and took his tally to a remarkable 22 goals for the campaign.

Deila said: “He is my dream striker. He is so important for us. He scores goals and works really hard for the team, so I am very happy to have him back.”

The Norwegian added: “I think Carlton did okay. He played well alongside Leigh. They scored three between them, so I can’t be very irritated by that.

“You can see Carlton is experienced and he knows how to score and be a striker.”

Cole said: “A win is very pleasing and for me personally to get on the scoresheet. Griff played brilliantly and it’s great to be alongside a striker who just thinks about goals.

“Griff has been amazing. He’s got 22 goals already – I’d love to have that kind of return.

“He’s a top goalscorer and a great asset for the club.”
